Was born Dec 4th at 5:30 am! Comgratulations Nikki, Dorothy and Miles!
  3. I just talked to Miles today, I think he said 30 jumps to 730. Whooo Hoooo!
  4. Amen, Keivn. NOTHING, beat the feeling of using a complete peice of gear that I put every stitch in, from the legstraps to the top of the pilot chute......
  5. 44 years young and 23 years since my first base jump, 18 days from the most recent.

    Vented Canopies?

It sounds like a "backsurge" is a relative of a gust induced stall. Gravity constantly working and downward velocity being arrested, but the wing getting hit with an influence (tail wind) and and needing more vertical velocity to overcome it. Being unable to "Fly", it must "Stall" and pick up more speed/pressure to become a semi ridgid wing.

    Cleaning Pc's

Take it off the bridle and wash GENTLY in the sink with a mild detergent like Cheer in lukewarm water. mildly agitate and rinse in clean lukewarm water, DO NOT USE BLEACH! Do that a couple of times, the rinsing part and let dry in a shaded area. The thing to watch for is not to be too vigorous in the washing part so as not to breakdown the fabric near any seams. Inspect the item carefully after the procedure.

    "Bad Ideas" list

Velcroing your cheststap for the climb without threading it properly and threading the legstraps through the buckles WITHOUT taking the rig off!!!!!
  9. Maybe you have a pilotchute that WAS a pullout style bridle and someone slapped a pin on it and called it good. Anyway, how long is the bridle from the pc end of the bridle to the pin? Then how long from the pin to the bag? A new bridle and kill line would do the trick if you are near a competent rigging shop, just have them cut off the old bridle and kill line and make new to your or " standard" spec's.
  10. About four years back I got a couple of pilot rigs in for repack. They were from the "dark ages" when alot of non tso'ed gear was out there, never mind that, one was set up for a crater by the previous rigger. It was a 3 pin rig and the (900lb dacron) top closing loop was too long, it came from the packtray through the topflap and both sideflaps. The rigger shortened it by pinching and tacking a bight of loop ABOVE THE TOPFLAP GROMMET! About 4 feet of canopy could be pulled out before binding under the flap. The FAA guy I talked to said if the packjob was 6 months old the rigger would be toast. 1 year and he would have a sore backside and after 18 months there was pretty much nothing they could do about it. The packjob was 12 years old and the rigger was still in the area, not doing much anymore, so nothing happened except I kept the the non tso'ed rig to show other riggers a deadly f-up!

    Custom GPS

One of my neighbors is doing some awesome things with GPS, custom designed for his company's flight projects. He wants to know if there is enough interest in building wingsuit specific GPS/ datalogger systems. His questions are, what update rate, 1-10 hz ? Do you want accuracy from +/- 3m to 4 cm in x,y, and z axis? data logging? Video capacity? and for the best accuracy, inertial motion sensor to smooth the plot of the flight. He is going to build a prototype for me to use, and we will work on optimal mounting for the antenna. I am by no means any type of expert on this techie type of stuff and will try to get this guy on here asap.

    BD v TFs FJC

I feel for Brians close and extended family, as this has scratched open an old wound on me. All the coulda', woulda' and shoulda's will not change what has happened. Event's like this bring out the best and the worst in people, so Mike , my hat is off to you for showing strength and courage when you are hurt so bad. The rest of us could take a lesson from your example, put our best foot forward and keep on keepin' on knowing the bar has been set high.

    Safety

I'm sure if you look around you will be able to attend safety meetings. Have fun people, I liked what calvin said in another post about "Kodak Courage".
  15. Yeah, riding a unicycle where the majority of the planets humans would not even walk! Dude has some great skill, paid for with alot of injury I'll bet.
  16. When translating "maggotonese", think one part ebonics, two parts hillbilly and a big ole' line of retard snorted in one shot chased by a double of whiskey!

    Ever tried this?

I put this setup on my Mojo and have had no problems at all. The "Chain" style brake setting for slider down setting is WAY stronger than a "cat eye" because the shock load is directed to a loop of line rather than a splice type joint. A cat eye for slider up is fine because the force to the brake setting is applied much more gradualy and results in less wear. Sure you feel a "Bump" in your controll stroke, but after a few jumps it's a non-issue.
  18. Could you tell me what an h-mod is? I have a customer that will not jump his 170 any more because of the spankings he got with it ( we did small pc tight stows and tracking deployments, ect.).
  19. Do you know at what altitude you will be at at the 10 sec. delay? If relatively high, say 600' or so you certainly could use small mesh and the 36" pc and be in a good spot altitude wise. If you are worried about a hard opening, I might roll the nose 3 cells on each side towards the center, covering the center cell a bit and get out there and jump!
  20. I'd be so scared of that astra in your rig. We had nothing but trouble with them at Lodi. As for your vector II, you would'nt race NASCAR with a Toyota Corolla, would you?

    BASE in Iran

I'd love to jump it from the deck underneath the exit point and cruise past the steel! Way to pioneer in Iran! From the third pic it looks like freestowed lines in the pack tray.... old school, (how I started) I love it!!!!!
  22. Oh yea, what about the "Benefit" part of the event, you know $$$ raised for special needs kids? Any word on that? Stop fighting about stuff that has been hashed and rehashed here.
  23. One of the bigger things they do is on slider up jumps you have a place to put slider stops, keeping the grommet from pushing up over the line loops and onto the canopy fabric.
