  1. yes....R W B bi-centennial SCR patch... i earned one on june 5th 1976.....# 6190. I have it in a photo album, fresh as the day i got it... Really glad for the friends who made sure we completed the application forms correctly... AND sent them IN... sorry TK,, never saw the rig before..... jmy
  2. Thanks for notifying US that YOU don't care..... good thing that there are OTHERS in our community who DO... As for the point that YOUR DZ "allows" it....I am gonna guess that it is Because... your DZ has a small "pro shop" that SELLS .... Go Pros...... jmy
  3. Suit...or at least a shirt and tie and jacket... Not EVERYone there will be jumpers or former jumpers.... Family members who are whuffos might not know how to react to someone in a jumpsuit... though i think i understand where your heart is and where you are coming from.... Maybe an airborne team member or someone in the services would have Pals and comrades who would wanna "represent"...but otherwise,,, No. imho. Have had to attend a few such services... proper decorum is appreciated......and expected... sorry for the loss of your friend...
  4. ...because it offers a fleeting disassociation, (Literally AND Figuratively ) from this CRAZY planet on which we live. the sense of "in the moment " is never quite as strong as when we are experiencing those few minutes, during which we ARE actually skydiving.... Plus i love the fact that it is a sport that Men and Women can Share equally and with no bias toward one or the other...
  5. Flake It!!! Sleeve it !!! Do up the lines And get it IN the container!!!!...It'll work just FINE!!! jmy
  6. you still have That Blue Frap Hat...though !!!! Right????????? And your jumpsuit??????
  7. I see something VERY GOOD.......about this.. the TITLE , of your "invention" jmy
  8. here is the ONLY important part of that note !!! "once you receive the check,, Have it CASHED"!!!!... you could then,,,,"scam the scammer".. jmy
  9. See I knew it...this will catch on with all us cool kids and then before ya know it - everybody will have one! You BOTH ?? never had an AAD??? or You did,,, and it timed out???... many of my buddys who got a cypres in the 90s' and never did anything to require it to fire.... have now watched it reach the 12 year 3 month functional lifetime... some reached it a few years ago...and now they have an expensive paperweight!!! I waited and watched.... as has been my M.O. since the days that reserves went to our backs and the Ram Air canopies become commonplace...So it was 2002 when I found a good and fair deal...on a new expert cypres..... here on DZ dot com.. I have another year or so left on it... WHAT brand are you guys getting??? >>>>>BEER....... >>Not AAD.... Now.... turn it ON... Don't pull LOW...
  10. the Same to You... i noticed a post from you recently, and i smiled.
  11. re; "cut off federal support for these for-profit schools , when they fail to graduate students....etc etc..." Can't really blame the schools IF the student (s) lacks ambition or otherwise just CAN'T do the work.... many MANY kids are well Unprepared for what it TAKES to accomplish ANy college degree...especially those who "coasted through high School"..... I often wonder WHy we don't have a sensible Alternative to heading Right Off to college,,,, 3 months after H S Graduation.... Sure kids wanna "get out from their parents home" wanna "stretch their wings" " wanna be on their Own"..... But tooo many fall prey to the lure of freedom.... and have no real idea,,, of HOW to handle it.... So they give in to vices,,, they learn how to skip classes,, they mis prioritize many aspects of higher education... and for some,, they finally determine that "college just ISN'T for ME..." Yikes.. Now they are OUT not just for the money,,, but they have blown 2 or 3 years where they could have been working.... and earning,,( even if it was small wage earnings) their folks have spent Most ALL of the "college savings" and the kids are back at home living in the rec room and raiding the refrigerator,,,,, driving the parents nuts.... How about some sort of community job corps??? say an 18 month term.. when HS kids. get placed into programs which Include, dorm style living quarters, learning how to be part of a team, getting some small degree of discipline, learning that OTHERS are equally valued in this world....( toooo many kids come OUT of HS... having been pampered,,, having had their SELF-Esteem blown waaaay out of proportion, to the point of narcissism). Such a job corps could be used far and wide.. for everything from Litter pick-up to disaster relief efforts to city beautification projects....Part of the training might include exposure to the Skilled Trades,,,,an explanation of just WHAT sort of career options REALLY exist, and the Chance that AFTER the persons "enlistment" he or she would have a bit of a Better idea.. of what the world is really like, Outside of Mom and Dads (often palatial ) home and way of life.... It could be a real eye-opener for some....ANd a good transitionary program.. to help kids begin to Grow Up..... Then.... afterwards. they could choose to either NOW enroll at a college. OR pursue a skilled trades position, Or become a community activist and advocate....... I dunno.... tough call.... Just glad that Our family has accomplished advanced degrees and so are NOT faced with this looming crisis anymore. The kids are knocking down the small loans for which we qualified,,, one with a bachelors degree and one with a masters... the loans were needed,,, to supplement the $$$$ which we tediously saved since they were little... ( that's why dad was Always.... NOT jumping the "latest & greatest " rig and why we weren't driving late model vehicles )... Good news is that each child has UNDER 5 grand left to pay....and never miss the monthly obligation.. Still I wonder WHY our savings account pays a half percent interest... while the college loans demand 6.5 %.... USURY ??? perhaps??....
  12. "Boy , the way Glenn Miller Played " !!!!! "songs that made the HIT parade" "guys like US we had it MADE " "Those were the days".. Archie was one of TV's first "envelope Pushers" (actually Norman Lear was ) .. not sure if that was Good or Bad.... I certainly Did cringe... when certain things would come out of his mouth !!! I DO remember the shoe-booty story..
  13. right shoulder ??/ or left??? your report of doing push-up and pull-ups is encouraging... the return of strength is a Good thing.. but do not forget Range of motion and flexibility... you certainly need to be able to reach your pilot chute.. easily and without difficulty... put on your rig, lie on a clean carpet.. simulate a track, a wave and a Pull sequence.... then ask someone to help you by pushing your rig Uphill towards your shoulders.. and be sure that even THEN.. you can roll your arm Up and behind you... to GET to the PC handle In my case, i found that move was very hard to do, and so had my BOC changed over to Left side deployment....in order to head off any problems...( i had my right shoulder dislocate, during a pre-gripped exit off the tailgate of a CASA.. the chunk tumbled and the guy on my right shoulder grip... HUNG on,, and then backlooped !!! .. the arm was flapping in the breeze... above my head and i could NOT make it come down to touch my hackey...... PUlled my reserve left handed, at 3 Grand ). later had surgery, but still Not 100 %... good luck to you. ps plan to continue with the physical therapy for the forseeable future..
  14. I saw this story earlier and simply SHOOK my head ....flabbergasted. I don't CARE where you live and how you practice your "constitutional rights"... giving a rifle to a 5 year old Kid... is pure Idiocy I wonder IF the "mom on the porch". was either "havin' a smoke" or else picking up a better "cellular signal" for her phone call or text.... edited to add i believe i commented in the sad thread about the child at a BBQ..."You GOTTA watch kids... when they are 3... 4.. 5, ALLL the time..." they are quick,, and imaginative and impulsive,,, and Yet to a certain extent real young kids , and 5 is young... are generally... Innocent, as was the 2 year old. Very Sad damn awful situation.....imho
  15. since childhood, I have always loved linguine and a red seafood sauce... it's easy to make if you have time... simple base sauce of Red Clam sauce 2 or 3 cans... and then tomato paste as needed for thickening,,, and then timely addition of fresh raw shrimp,,,,,jumbo if they are available, since they shrink up a lot....(put them IN just near the end of cooking..) and either fresh lobster In shell...( the store folks can cut and prep if you prefer, discarding the head and cleaning the body cavity ) OR else lobster meat which was flash frozen and ready to cook... we sometimes add an extra portion of fresh chopped clams, either frozen or canned... a big sauce pot...and 2 pounds of pasta can feed a real crowd.... If the people are Special... I sometimes kick it UP from linguine.... to fettucine!!! back up plan is a couple of pounds of fresh pizza dough.. let it rise a bit, earlier in the day,, with a variety of toppings and one or two large salads....
  16. From Wings Came Flight Norman Kent still have the VHS tape
  17. ....never underestimate the Importance of the "lowly crewmember"... tough video to watch... i wonder what the cargo WAS??? must have been on TAke off...with "Full Tanks"... considering the severity of the fire.... may those lost souls R I P
  18. well I call BS... BUt not on YOU pops.... more on the OP for overexaggerating the issue, to the point of saying "being detached" as billvon points out, the confluence wrap and stitching is WELL designed to PREVENT,,,,,any such disconnect... It sounds like the legstrap may have slipped ON opening...which is a gear maintenance issue for sure...but Not some Catastrophic Emergency. IF the chest strap IS in your face, or 'choking you '... AND the canopy is open, square and controllable...Why Not simply Loosen the chest strap????? Rental gear at ANy DZ should receive the Same , maybe MORE inspection, care and REPAIR/replacement as the DZOs personal rig, or the rigs of ANy of the staff..... Rental gear is often treated much more roughly and gets beat up much more quickly, when used by lowtimers, or those who just may "jump it and dump it"... Maybe SOME DZ's log and/or keep track of TOTAL jump numbers on such gear.. but rental rigs CAN accumulate hundreds or thousands of jumps,,,pretty quickly, bringing with That,,,issues like harness slippage, 3 ring cable maintenance , riser ring "set" and P.C./ bridle and closing loop wear & tear... good deal shibu to get GOOD quality gear of Your OWN....that FITS!!! good luck jmy
  19. ...WHO ever said that the behavior in the "current case" ....... was "reckless".....????? are so many here, SO self centered ( that shit could NEVER happen to MEEEEEEEeee") that we have lost our sense of community and charity??? hell.. make ONE less skydive this weekend.. buy ONE less 12 pack... sheesh... ....jimmytavino....OUT.....
  20. yes....... but you better not let that U.S. FLAG.... suffer any damage. from either the fire....OR the chainsaws!!!
  21. "Oh Snap"!!!!! (posted while watching yet another Fantastic episode, of " My name is Earl"..) jmy
  22. like i asked , earlier WHat canopy is iT??? as In.... the Name of the canopy OR the Manufacturer,,, OR the brand...... I used to have a main that had them in it... they are sewn Inside the fabric.. and , as has been mentioned.... They keep the slider from grabbing material at the SKIRT of the canopy.... Different than the slider bumpers,, which used to cover the old metal french links.. ( before the days of slinks ) where the lines hit the Risers.....and where the slider grommet Could get damaged by repeatedly banging against the hard links... on opening where the slider bangs on down the lines.... If you ding up those grommets then they could cause premature WEAR to the suspension lines.. on every opening... jmy
