  1. "The spelling of hear is not here" Where is the spelling of hear. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  2. Other black kids Exactly. I used to see this a lot. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  3. I just think it's funny that Arthur Andersen is involved in this example. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  4. This looks like as good a place as any to post this tidbit from BBC news. Congress makes the tax laws. They could simplify the law and eliminate loopholes, or they can sit and complain while doing nothing. Apparently the congress has made it's choice. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  5. There are a number of things you can do to improve this situation, for yourself and others. Have you written your state and federal legislators with a clear, simple message they can act on? Not "please make things better", but "please vote for (or against) bill H.R. xxxx" or something equally specific. Do you use a credit card? If you carry a balance and pay interest on it, you're making Jamie Dimon richer and yourself poorer. My dealings with banks are a game - if I pay interest to the bank, I lose; if the bank pays me interest, I win. Do you look at the country of origin when you buy stuff? I know it's not always possible, but sometimes you buy things that were made by American workers. I appreciate your praise of the community college system. I've done some math tutoring at our local c.c. With your skills, you could help teach people in the community to make better decisions in their own lives. There are some things you can do. They're small, but they can help. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  6. Not happenstance at all. It's one thing for a big-government liberal to ask for more big government. That's a dog-bites-man story. The guy sponsoring this legislation prides himself (according to his own website) on being "one of the most pro-business members of the General Assembly." He brags that he "cut through the red tape of bureaucratic regulations." That's a man-bites-dog story. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  7. An SEC coach likes nothing better than to post this sort of article on the wall in his locker room. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  8. OK, here's a different way to say it. If I champion innovation in the marketplace and a reduction or elimination of regulations, then ask for regulations to protect me when someone's innovation gives them a competitive advantage over my interests, then I'm a fucking hypocrite and a damned liar. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  9. Best answer so far. Actually, I do have a problem with the distribution, but not because athletes and pop stars make a lot of money. The issue I have is that some income is given preferential tax treatment: e.g. lower rates for dividends vs. wages. Yes, we contribute to the problem. A lot of that is education. I don't mean algebra and trigonometry, although that's a problem in America. I mean telling people how they can make things better for themselves. How many people do you think write their congressman and ask for changes in tax law? How many people drive an older car with no car payment vs. a newer car with a hefty payment? How many people hurt their finances with the way they use credit cards? One thing about wealth statistics that I haven't been able to get a handle on is the difference between someone's net worth and their wealth. Studies such as those that started this discussion measure net worth. In fact, a family can live a very nice life with little, or even negative, net worth. For this reason, I believe the true wealth distribution in America is not as bad as these types of studies indicate. I'm just not sure how to get a better measure. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  10. I really doubt that the attack could have been prevented, and I'm not so sure the embassy could have been saved, but having U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice go on TV to explain the situation makes about as much sense as having U.N. Ambassador Rice go on TV to explain why the Federal Open Markets Committee decided not to raise interest rates or why the Air Force chose a Boeing design over an Airbus for its new tanker. It was obvious that Rice was used to deflect blame to the extent possible and take the heat to the extent necessary. You don't have to outrun the bear.

  12. Looks like Mark will be facing the same sort of charges tomorrow. At least he's a right-thinking-Republican who believes in God, family, and duty-to-country. I just think it's sad that these are the choices voters are faced with. You don't have to outrun the bear.

    Chefs Knives

VG10 is stainless. S30V is stainless. 440C is stainless. There are a lot of stainless steels ranging from the stuff your sink is made of to some fine knife steels. Everybody knows you will always be wrong when you generalize about anything. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  14. "revision marking" is an indication of what's changed from one revision of a manual to the next. We get lots of those on multi-hundred page computer manuals. In those cases, they're very helpful. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  15. New plan for Talladega: 197 parade laps then green-white-checkered finish with all 43 cars still running. You don't have to outrun the bear.

  17. You reminded me of a joke I heard from a farmer. An old bull and a young bull are standing on a hill looking down at a field full of cows. The young bull says, "Let's run down there and service one of those cows." The old bull says, "Let's walk down there and service all of those cows." You don't have to outrun the bear.
  18. This might sound like it's off topic, but I think it's relevant. This sort of thing is a good reason for energy independence. If the Western world doesn't need Middle Eastern oil, our embassies don't need to wear kid gloves when dealing with Middle Eastern countries. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  19. Additional info to continue thread drift: This was written over 100 years ago in England "If you do your work well, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, you will have no reason to complain of niggardly treatment." ... — The Return of Sherlock Holmes - You don't have to outrun the bear.
  20. Well that's some progress. Those racially motivated hangings used to be quite common. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  21. It's always amused me that fluorine in a water system is controversial but chlorine is not. That's the worst kind of halogen discrimination. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  22. I encountered a similar situation, except the girls were more greedy. They told me that if I paid them $500 they would do anything I wanted. I asked if they really meant that and they swore they did. I showed them $500 and told them I had an unusual request. The blond said, "We're pretty kinky. There's nothing we won't do. Hand over that money and tell us what you've got in mind." My reply, "Paint my house". The house looks great, but the girls were really pissed. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  23. A container that doesn't fit right is trouble waiting to happen. See if the DZ has a container that fits you better. When you buy gear, don't get a container that "almost" fits just because the price is good. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  24. Sorry, I wrote too much. What I meant to say was: What is the justification for outlawing one thing that's got crime associated with it and not outlawing some other thing that has crime associated with it? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  25. I'm imagining the picture, but still having a hard time figuring it out. You don't have to outrun the bear.
