  1. Right. So if we're going to outlaw things associated with crime, we could start with cars. Just about every police department has an auto theft detail and a traffic enforcement detail. The amount of crime associated with car theft is enormous, as is the death and maiming of innocent people by reckless and careless drivers. (from the Rocky Mountain Insurance Association: Using the FBI's average valuation of $6,152 per stolen vehicle, the 737,142 vehicles stolen during 2010 caused estimated property losses of $4.5 billion.) (from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatality Analysis Reporting System - in 2010 4302 pedestrians killed by being hit by cars). We could eliminate this carnage and loss by eliminating private ownership of cars. Anybody who's lived in Manhattan knows that you can get around using public transportation. There's no theoretical or constitutional reason such a system couldn't be expanded to cover the nation. The real difference between buying and selling sex and buying and selling almost any other product or service is that the Bible says sex is bad. Of course, Judges 1:19 also warns us against "iron chariots", but we can ignore that for the moment. It's all a matter of whose morality you want to enforce. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  2. So I'm thinking that you can associate crime with just about anything; some people steal food, some people bribe cops, some people beat their wives, but that doesn't equate to outlawing the object of the crime. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  3. Not so fast, Mark. Like many hypotheticals, yours leaves out a vital piece of info. How well does the rigger know the owner? Does the rigger know that the owner wants necessary repairs made and will pay to get the rig in shape for the week-end? If the rigger doesn't know the owner, I'd say he should ask the owner what he expects and come to some agreement, otherwise I'm with Normiss. You don't have to outrun the bear.

  5. I use one every week. Seems cheaper than buying a riding lawn mower and a membership at the gym. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  6. A guy calls animal control to report a gorilla on his roof. Shortly, a truck pulls up and an animal control worker gets out with a dog and a gun. The worker tells the homeowner to hold the gun. He says, "I'm going to go up on the roof and scare the gorilla. When he falls off the roof, the dog will bite him in the balls until he's incapacitated, then we'll capture him." The homeowner says, "What's the gun for?" The worker replies, "If I fall off the roof, shoot that damned dog." You don't have to outrun the bear.

  10. I seriously doubt if your packing technique caused this. If you get good openings, you shouldn't have to change that. Your local rigger can tell you for sure. You don't have to outrun the bear.

  13. She certainly had an influence on the world. I never thought of her as a "female prime minister", just a decisive leader. Like you, I'll wait for history to judge, but she will definitely not be ignored. You don't have to outrun the bear.

    Monsanto

I'll see your United Fruit Company and raise you the entire state (formerly independent nation) of Hawaii. The post about Monsanto lawsuits brings another government culprit into the picture - judges who let those bullshit suits go forward. You don't have to outrun the bear.

    Monsanto

And this helps to explain why. ( emphasis added by me) Maybe if we could just put each piece of legislation on Kim Kardashian's butt so journalists would bring it to the attention of the public we would have better informed voters. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  18. Nothing wrong with testing people in a position of responsibility to make sure they're clear-headed. I'm sure the legislators would happily take drug and alcohol tests on their way in to work every day. http://www.petitiononline.com/DTC/petition.html You don't have to outrun the bear.
  19. You mean like a pistol permit that's issued by a law enforcement agency and has to be renewed every year and is already in use in jurisdictiions around the country ? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  20. Maybe somebody else who didn't have a "take permit" killed the eagle and dumped it on the property. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  21. I worked for a company just like that for a while. The father had 3 sons. When the dad retired, the oldest son could have run the decades-old company real well by himself. With his brothers helping, the business only lasted a few more years. to the OP: is this an exception ? Don't let it get to you. Is slacking off the rule in the company ? Don't burn your bridges, but start looking. Good luck. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  22. The bars on a prison cell ?? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  23. It's a good idea, but it won't happen. Here's why. A guy who has $30 million income from dividends took your congressman to lunch. Now the congressman is firmly convinced that taxing qualified dividends at a lower rate than ordinary income is absolutely essential to the creation of jobs in this country. ( he's also convinced that the rich guy is going to donate $1 million to his next re-election campaign, but that doesn't influence his strong feelings of patriotism and civic duty) Every one of those deductions is supported by a few people who take a few congressmen to lunch. So here we are, and here we will remain. Do you think you could get enough voters to focus on even one of those loopholes throughout a congressional session and get it eliminated ? You don't have to outrun the bear.
