  1. Watching the thread drift in this forum always reminds me of the non-sequiturs in Family Guy. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  2. "The Holy Bible is the only information source that has remained constant in my lifetime. " If you've been reading the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic, that would be true. If you only read the King James translation, that would be true. Actually though, there have been some revisions and re-interpretations in your lifetime. The following link discusses one of several examples, if you're interested. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  3. While you're at it, look at this link from BBC news: For those who are click-inhibited, here's the executive summary: You don't have to outrun the bear.
  4. I dunno if it's a cult movie, but "The Gods Must Be Crazy". You don't have to outrun the bear.
  5. Bertt

    Go Canada

Austin, Texas. Zilker park: topless OK. Hippy Hollow, nude swimming OK. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  6. "When I shoved my hand in the hole in the dyke, she crossed her legs ...." "When an angry buffalo is charging at you, you simply make a fist and hit him between the eyes as hard as you can. A slight injury to your hand is nothing compared to being trampled by an angry buffalo." "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, sometimes I fall down." "Arm wrestling Chuck Norris was a little harder than I thought it would be, but I WON." You don't have to outrun the bear.
  7. After reading your post several times, I still fail to see how it refutes the facts presented or further enlightens the issue. Thanks for trying to help, but I still have the impression that the lawmaker mentioned by the OP is making laws for other people to follow that he himself doesn't follow. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  8. I wonder how many people who jump with a full face helmet have practiced quickly opening the visor. (that's a real question, 'cause I have a Protec and goggles) You don't have to outrun the bear.
  9. It's not metadata, it's data. The NSA has been doing this since the 1980's. The Court asked Congress to deal with the issue, so I'm sure a solution will be forthcoming. (Wait, was that last part sarcasm?) You don't have to outrun the bear.
  10. I had the same thought at the same time in my parallel universe. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  11. I realize that the issue has been resolved and my comment is a bit late, but: That guy is not current. Regardless of his previous experience and ratings, SIM section 5.2.D requires him to make one or more jumps under the supervision of an instructional rating holder. Unless I missed it, this point wasn't mentioned, but would any of you want to take him out on a coached jump? If he wants to jump alone, he can hire a pilot to take him up, but at a USPA dz, his first jump will necessarily involve someone else. Just a thought; carry on. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  12. I heard a WW2 pilot talking about the canopy sizes recently. He pointed out that the 28 foot canopy was thicker, so it set you up higher in the cockpit. The smaller guys got those. The 24 foot canopy was smaller, so provided more headroom. The big guys got those. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  13. The bigger story here is the lack of protection from the legal system that would prevent the car-jacking in the first place. When the cops do arrest someone for a serious crime, they hold a news conference and point out what a long criminal record the suspect has. They would do better to show up at the sentencing hearing and ask the judge not to keep letting the criminals back on the street. Guys don't just get up one morning and decide to jack a car. They work their way up to it after numerous run-ins with a legal system they don't respect or fear. This is what leads the civilians to believe they need to protect themselves. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  14. Eight years ago there was a public outcry against the people who didn't want to provide service. Now there's a public outcry from the same sources in favor of the people who don't want to provide service. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  15. "Ya, in pizza boxes with bible quotes on them...problem solved. " Strange you should mention that. Trijicon used to inscribe biblical references on their scopes. Some of the soldiers who worked closely with Muslims in places like Iraq and Afghanistan thought that could be "distracting" and Trijicon stopped putting the references on scopes sold to the government in 2010. You know, the discussion this year is mainly from the point of view of right-thinking, God-fearing Christians who want to be selective about who they do business with. Just let a gay jeweler announce that he won't sell wedding rings to Christians, based on their view that homosexuality is a sin, and this discussion takes a U-turn. You don't have to outrun the bear.
