  1. Don't tell the pigs that. They won't show up for the pig fest. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  2. So do you have an example of a time when the U.S. economy shrank because tax liabilities increased? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  3. One man's capitalization is another man's wasted keystroke. But really, the guy in Missouri and now this? I can't believe people that stupid can feed themselves. And the masterful way Karl Rove conned Republican supporters into giving him $100 million instead of actually using that money to support Republican candidates. The only thing that makes sense is that these are all Democrats who are trying to make Republicans look stupid. But if it's working, then maybe Republicans are .... nawww, they couldn't be .... could they? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  4. I can only assume that these bills are false-flag attempts by democrats to create more democrat voters. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  5. How does that explain the considerable shrinkage in the private sector in 2008 ( you know, the year Lehman Brothers went bankrupt and the stock market dropped about 50% - that shrinkage) ? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  6. Another way to keep convicted felons from carrying guns on the street, wherever they get them, is to keep the felons in jail longer. Just a thought. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  7. Term limits for congress?? I like it. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  8. To be fair, there is some disagreement among scientists about this. Count on those American scientists to muddy the waters. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  9. I'm not really arguing gun law here. I'm arguing statistics. Two points: 1) Rep. Toth didn't say "Except for five cities, Texas is a hardened state ...". He was talking about the whole state. 2) The United States contains 20 of the 20 largest cities in the United States. Even including Detroit, D.C., etc., the violent crime rate in Texas is higher than the U.S. average. I've recently been told that it's about 6% higher. My point is still that the well-meaning representative would spend his time and his state's money better by doing something positive for his state (like encouraging the local police to frequently drop by schools in their patrol area) than by picking a fight with the Federal government that he probably can't win. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  10. A hundred thousand people is about the same number of people in Texas as anywhere else. My main point here is that the well-meaning legislator will spend a lot of effort keeping his state below average. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  11. This would be more believable if not for the fact that Texas has more violent crimes per 100,000 population than the national average (and more even than Alabama), the Tower sniper, the Luby's massacre, and that whole Kennedy assassination thing. Anyway, I wish him luck telling the Feds they can't enforce a law in his state. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  12. Better answer - it depends. If you literally mean "damp" as in "a little rain got on it", then No. Did you land some distance from the hanger then walk back in a downpour? Then maybe. After water jumps where the skydiver wearing the gear is actually in the lake for a couple of minutes the reserve is routinely opened, aired out until dry, then repacked. This doesn't cause any damage. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  13. One reason the U.S. comes out poorly in these sorts of studies is that it's compared to a few countries that are not demographically representative of the U.S. As the third most populous country on earth and the melting pot of the world, it would be more accurate to compare America to all other countries, not just one or two dozen. For instance, in terms of murder rate, the U.S. is right at the median of all countries. That gives plenty of room to pick two dozen that are either better or worse. For that matter, if you wanted to cherry-pick for your comparison, you could pick 60 million Americans whose stats would beat the shit out of the U.K. in any category you wanted to name. The article quoted actually touches on this at the end, then dismisses it. In reality, this factor can't be dismissed. By the way, in regard to popular TV shows, I got a note the other day that said "Take a look at MTV's new series, Buckwild. It proves we were right all along. {signed} The Mayans". You don't have to outrun the bear.
  14. Which brings up a question. What if the governor of a state made all the adults residents of the state who have not been convicted of a felony members of the state militia. How would that affect their 2nd amendment rights ? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  15. This is what the CDC says about smoking, yet Congress has not outlawed tobacco. Maybe Holder needs to deliver his message closer to home. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  16. Let it go. There are more fish in the sea. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  17. I didn't vote because you didn't put "No Difference" or "Boobies" as possible choices. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  18. Just an aside here. CNN reported that AIG had decided not to join this lawsuit. Their report didn't mention Greenberg. Most especially, they didn't say anything about Greenberg leaving AIG under the cloud of a suit by New York for fraud. On the plus side, reports from the Daily Show and Rolling Stone were much more accurate and complete (and funnier at the same time). With the news coverage most people get, it's no wonder so many people don't understand what's going on around them. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  19. Here's a report from the Norway Post about the response to the mass murder that took 70+ lives there. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  20. One thing you might try is to talk to your Dr. and see how willing he is to help you jump through the insurance company's hoops. Ask him if he knows of other doctors who have dealt with that company successfully. Sometimes the amount of documentation and persistence the insurance company gets from your doctor will help them change their mind. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  21. They will work the same way Prohibition kept America from falling victim to "demon rum". Now, quick question: If you put a bolt action upper on an AR-15 lower receiver, which part would the gov't take away - the no longer semi-automatic rifle, or the upper with the flash hider that can't shoot anymore because it no longer has a trigger ?? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  22. That idea comes up from time to time. The problem with it is that it handicaps the government too much in the event of a situation where the government really needs to run a deficit (e.g. World War II). If you say "balanced budget, except in case of ...." then everything becomes the exception. Theoretically, legislators who put the country's interest before their own self-interest would be able to manage the budget without a balanced budget amendment, but, unlike the Higg's boson, those have never been observed. 23. You do not have to be a jumper to be an FAA certified parachute rigger. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  24. There are a lot of people who could be hurt by that. Everything from setting adjustable interest rates to figuring the present value of an annuity could be affected. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  25. You know what really degrades nylon? Leaving an unpacked canopy lying around where the cat can piss on it. It really doesn't matter if you pack before you leave the dropzone, or if you leave the canopy unpacked, but at least put it in a duffel bag or something that will protect it as it lies in the closet. You don't have to outrun the bear.
