  1. She ended a sentence with a preposition. And she calls herself a university administrator ... 'nuff said. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  2. Obama ? not David Cameron, Senators Graham and McCain, and a host of newspaper and TV guys. Is this the same George Will who was a big supporter of the war in Iraq until he decided some 3 years later it wasn't such a good idea? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  3. without a picture it's all talk You don't have to outrun the bear.
  4. In this case the guy was a teacher, which puts him in a supervisory relationship with students that legally and morally requires better judgement and more protective attitude and actions than just some old guy and some young girl. Sometimes I think judges are out of touch with reality. Sometimes I have no doubt. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  5. I met her and you at DeWolf's. Both nice people and good instructors. So sorry to hear about this. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  6. Lawyers have rules of professional conduct ?? Is that only in Michigan? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  7. With any luck, roommate will put a hooker in your bedroom and hand you a condom when you get home. Put a post on Reddit saying how much you would hate this and hope for the best. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  8. I didn't know The Onion had begun doing serious news. I knew CNN had given up on it years ago. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  9. The New Yorker came to the party a little late. (note the 2007 date in the article published in 2012). This practice became quite popular in Louisiana a few years ago, especially along I-10. A couple of years of bad publicity put a stop to a lot of it. The ACLU filed some successful lawsuits: https://www.aclu.org/blog/criminal-law-reform-racial-justice/settlement-means-no-more-highway-robbery-tenaha-texas. It still goes on because courts will more often side with officials than individuals until the official conduct gets just downright outrageous. Andy's right about one thing. Corruption by local officials is precisely what keeps groups like the Taliban in business. When you get a paycheck from the public to protect and serve and all you do is harass and rob, you're going to lose public support. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  10. In all seriousness, if Obama had been born in Chicago to parents who were both natural born U.S. citizens, it wouldn't have mattered. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  11. You don't have to make a decision in 1 or 2 seconds. You have to give yourself a few seconds to wait for the "heart-stopping fear" to pass, then evaluate the situation and make a good decision. I bet if you get someone to help you practice your emergency procedures next time you're at the DZ, you'll see that you'll do just fine. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  12. Because Canada is closer to the United States than Hawaii is. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  13. I heard you're getting a management position, but Bob and Bill are both getting canned. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  14. "What's ironic? " Maybe that a black guy from Chicago asked the judge to send him to Alabama? His wife got a year. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  15. "One lawyer in a town will starve. Two lawyers in a town will get rich." You don't have to outrun the bear.
  16. But what if there were small, modular nuclear reactors built into the grid along with wind generators? I wonder if anybody around here has thought of that.....? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  17. I was actually going to post this, until I read the article carefully. This was an unfortunate outcome to a situation that didn't have to have any outcome other than "Darn officer, you got me. Now where do I do that community service?" If the cops grabbed him and he struggled, any slight injury to a policeman could have been treated as a felony assault, so the taser wasn't really an error in judgement by the cops. There are plenty of examples of cops who don't do their job properly, but this might be seen as an example of a citizen who didn't do his job properly. Oh, what's his job? Same as mine - go through life obeying the law and not bothering other people and their property. You don't have to outrun the bear.
  18. "It is the easiest way to cocoon a packjob and lay it down so it is ready to bag" and it helps keep the slider in place. Not only that, but the reserve pack gets the canopy open a little quicker. When students ask about these differences, I go through the details, then sum up by telling them: "If I packed your main like I pack a reserve, you'd hate me, and if I packed your reserve like I pack a main, you'd hate me." 19. "unfocused poison" - You make it sound like that's a bad thing. Seriously, what's being collected by the NSA is not "metadata", it's "data". This sort of thing has been going on since the late 1980's when relational database technology became available and allowed large amounts of data to be retrieved in a useful manner. Businesses do it for commercial purposes. The NSA does it for purposes of national security. Law enforcement does it because they have to spend their grant money on something. My solution: don't be so damned concerned about privacy. Sure, you can fall victim to guilt by association, but you could do that by having a drink in the wrong bar on the wrong night. My greater concern here is that Mr. "Unprecedented level of openness in government" is finding out that things aren't so simple and he's falling into the same traps and making the same mistakes that have plagued other leaders whose tolerance for embarrassment is lower than their tolerance for misleading the public. There is a need for government to keep some things close to the vest. I don't want to know the exact plans for the D-Day invasion. When these things come up, sometimes the best answer is "No Comment". Attempting to make the public think you're being straight with them when you're not being straight with them only reduces trust. 20. There you have it. Tanks and planes pre-positioned in the Middle East to head off the coming alien invasion. Do you have your stockpile of canned food and green-tipped bullets? You don't have to outrun the bear.
  21. My concern is if an inexperienced student confuses a bag lock for a pilot chute in tow and doesn't cut away when he needs to. You don't have to outrun the bear.

  23. Don't know about Canada, but in the U.S. you need 25 skydives and there's a list of items to check off after AFF. e.g. land within 20 meters of a target 5 times. pack a parachute. dive out of the airplane and dock with another skydiver. A local DZ should be able to give you more details. You don't have to outrun the bear.
