If you cannot understand the difference between "some impact" and "eliminated all mass shootings" then there really is no sense for you to participate in adult conversations.

Joking about racist murderers really brings out your best side.

Believing that renaming a military base erases history is fucking ridiculous, because books still exist. Q) If no new military bases are built and all the existing ones were named after civil war generals - would post civil war history exist? A) Of course it bloody would and no one in their right mind would suggest otherwise. Here’s the thing, naming a military base (or anything else) after someone is not a necessary part of remembering that the wars they were involved with happened. Naming things after someone is an honour, and it is absolutely right and proper that society should be able to decide who is and who is not worthy of honouring.

If money can be considered "speech" per the Citizens United decision, surely shouting can also be considered speech.

Yeah, exactly. He didn’t kill or maim anyone. Priorities.

Not no impact. There was a previous ban, which was apparently constitutional, which did have some effect on mass shootings. Even appears that the ban became more effective as time went on. So history would suggest there would be some impact and certainly more than your thoughts and prayers.

You may find this hard to believe, but many people have trouble with the concept that you can actively seek out trouble and then be absolved from getting into trouble. Specially since the crowd that is loudly cheering about this has a pretty decent overlap with the "she asked for it with that short skirt" crowd.

Another renaming to honor a Civil War hero; On March 1 the USS Chancellorsville became the USS Robert Smalls. Robert Smalls was a slave who escaped from the South during the Civil war by stealing a Confederate ship and turning it over to the Union. Wikipedia: USS Robert Smalls Wikipedia: Robert Smalls

There is a lot of "History" to choose from. So people make choices. The people who go to Ft. Hood don't spend much time thinking about Hood and why his name was honoured, they just remember the name of the place they served. There is a ton of symbolism in choosing names. Hood has become a negative symbol, history is not being erased, it is being remembered by correcting an error. Almost all of the people who object to the change don't give a rat's ass about Hood, they just resist change because that's what people tend to do. You and they will get over it just like you got over the Washington Commanders thing.

You mean other than the events? So was OJ, but he’s obviously a murderer just like Rittenhouse is. Its really odd that you think the shooting of several people is a nice controlled, in-hand situation, by the way.

Indeed. According to GINI index the US has more wealth and income inequality than any other wealthy western nation. The US has a major political party dedicated to keeping it that way. The US has more structural racism than any other wealthy western nation. The same major political party is dedicated to keeping it that way. The US has way way more guns per capita than any other wealthy western nation. The same major political party is dedicated to keeping it that way. The US imprisons a greater % of its population than any other nation. The same major political party is dedicated to keeping it that way. Kind of a pattern there, don't you think?

Rep. Andy Ogles (R), congressman for the Nashville district which includes the Covenant School, with his 2022 Christmas card. Asshole!

Where's the joke, he is stating a fact. Rittenhouse went there, straightened things out and the court said it was ok. At least that's how it looks from the outside.

And there's a reason for that. Ireland guns per capita .07 US guns per capita 1.2 Ireland homicides per 100K: .7 US homicides per 100K: 6.5 No conservative I have ever talked to knows what CRT is. Even conservative authors who have written about it can't give straight answers. To them it's teaching white people to hate themselves, or sowing division among races, or making kids feel guilty. In reality it is an analysis of structural racism in America. In reality it is not taught anywhere other than as electives in colleges. In reality it says nothing about how much white people should hate themselves. It has nothing to do with this topic. We don't have an open border. Nor do people want one. You're just repeating memes you heard that you don't understand. That's not a great path towards better understanding. Also LAADDA, from their president: "Do you admire Blair [a black woman] for falling on her sword, I mean, banana to protect her meal ticket?” Find a better source than a source that even conservatives have disavowed.

Hi Mark, Many years ago, I was reading article about the GOP & Roe v Wade. One analogy was, what would the dog do if it it ever caught the car. The GOP found Roe v Wade to be something that they could use to stir up people. In their minds, this led to re-election. It has been working exactly how they wanted it to work. Then the GOP 'discovered' the 2nd Amendment. It also is working exactly how they want it to work. IMO both are just ways to stir up people to help ensure the re-election of GOP candidates. When this country comes to it's senses [ do not expect it soon ] and we vote out the people to are the T's & P's folks, then we will be able to make progress. While I truly wish BIGUN's ( Keith's ) suggestions could come to fruition, I am not holding my breath. I wish that I could be more optimistic. We got rid of one idiot ( Trump ), now we need to get rid of the other idiots. Jerry Baumchen

USA appears to be the only country on the planet willing to supply innocent virgin life the some sort of a god to "protect" them with the deaths of those sacrificed. Sounds like it came from religion. Are we living in Zardoz? "The gun is good, the penis is evil." Now we must sacrifice more children to Zardoz. NEXT! I am never going to understand how America moves backwards. Life expectancy is shortening, we have no proper medical care, we sacrifice innocent children to gods of guns, flat out ignorance regarding deadly health issues, and we clearly we prefer hate to love. We are not a land of freedom, we are a land of violence and hatred. It's disgusting. More so to see people actually embrace it. USA IS a third world country. WE are the shithole country our previous traitor President referred to. What happened?

America values guns and death more than it will ever value children's lives. Thank you to the brave parents who willingly send their innocent children off to be slaughtered for the god of guns. Fucking insanity. We're failing ourselves and our future.

The point IS: Every state that has enacted permit-less (open carry) has had a mass school shooting in less than a year after it passed. The point IS: There is NO criteria restricting the use of carrying any specific type of weapon. Once its open carry; you can carry anything, cause ya know its your fuckin right to off children. And, before you start the looky looky, ban assault weapons - that is a silly premise. Every weapon is an assault weapon. It's what they were designed to do. Assault. Until America wakes the fuck up and realizes we need owner responsibility that is mandated (because God knows your fucking freedom is more important than a child's life) And, the dems will decry the almighty AR-15 or repeal the 2nd which will only raise more fucking money and the reps will blame trans and every fucking thing else until more children are fucking dead. Rinse. Repeat. How many times are we going to let this record skip before we change the tune. That's the fucking point. A complete Gun Owner's Responsibility Bill. Ownership tracking from cradle to grave, weapon education and recurrency, proper storage, 10 years for use of a gun in the commission of a crime (bet domestic violence with a gun would go way down), etc. etc. we can discuss it more with the next fucking school shooting, cause ya know . . . we'd rather spend more time typing on SC than spending a few minutes writing in the text box to our congressional and senatorial leadership. Get it, now?

I think Tom's courses are well considered and are valuable. I personally think becoming highly proficient in CReW is also critically important. Understanding what your inputs do to a canopy are very valuable. Having canopies next to you (relative flight) is a great learning tool. for example I had about 100 total skydives, 45 of which were CReW. Also about 20 BASE jumps. I stepped off a bank building in LA, opened 180 about 20 feet from the building. I immediately pulled on both rear risers, started flying backwards, pendulumed out to hit the face with feet only, let up on one riser and flew to a safe landing in the street. IMO No CReW = more pain. Canopy was an unvented 220 ft 7 cell. from 1982. Very similar to a Fox.
