    Breakcord

A friend of mine had a bridle hang up on a static line jump. The opening and canopy flight were normal except in hindsight he said the line stretch shock was a little more than he was used to. He didn't even know it happened until the next day when he looked at his canopy and there was no bridle attachment point. Instead there was a very neat rectangular hole in the top skin of his BlackJack.
  2. That was great! I can't wait to see the rest.
  3. I love the footwear in picture 3! Awesome!
  4. It's a medium sized town in PA, so you should be able to get some good wings and cheap beer on just about any corner. How bad could that be?
  5. Hey Chris, Glad you found the forums. I hope you get some good responses, and hope to see you back at the DZ sometime for your jump!
  6. I've notitced on some of the older accuracy type canopies that the stabilizer is not completely attached to the canopy. Instead the stabilizer is attached in 2 or 3 places leaving 2 or 3 large gaps between it and the canopy. Is there a proper term for this set up and can anyone tell me what the advantages/disadvantages of it are? Just curious. Thanks!

    Traveling with Gear

You should also stuff a bag of peanuts in your pocket. When you are in freefall getting your rig on 350 people will suddenly try to learn the arts of tracking and Mr. Bill. If anyone manages to pull it off and you find yourself under canopy with them still hanging on to you, offer them some peanuts for their in flight snack. You will both get a chuckle out of it and it will break up the monotony of the canopy ride down.

    Thanks DC crew

Hey Mike, Thanks for helping me with my... uh... canopy problem Congrats on BASE!
  9. You're right about riser vs. toggle. You can see the right side of the canopy from the c lines back get pulled down when the pilot makes his input. Good catch.
  10. It's hard to tell from the video because you can't really see what inputs the pilot is putting and what the canopy is doing on its own. That said, it looks like the left steering line is hung up and the pilot was fighting a built in left turn the whole time. Perhaps the toggle release wasn't clean? The canopy turns to the left on opening. The pilot corrects by pulling down the right toggle, but because the left side is already so far down this almost stalls the canopy. The pilot then lets up the right toggle and the turn starts again. The pilot then semi-flares and almost stalls again on landing. I've had a brake setting hang up before when I've been lazy releasing them. That would be my guess.
  11. Looks like it was a great send off for a great man. Thanks to the jumpers who were there in person for representing the rest of us who were there in spirit.
  12. I agree with everything blitzkrieg said. Also, picking the rig up and letting it drop while holding onto the shoulder straps helps seat the pack job down in the bottom of the container and seems to make it fit mo' better. Prime the pins for a little extra mental warm and fuzzy.
  13. Take a deep breath. IIRC that sign was right in front of the only driveway that an ambulance would be able to use to cart our broken asses out of the landing area. If you were packing there and I was in the back of the ambulance looking at my femur for the first time I would politely ask the driver to drive right over your canopy.
  14. Now that everyone has thrown in their 2c I think we can safely assume two things: 1. Attempting anything more than a double gainer from that tiny bridge is just asking for trouble. 2. Naptown should post more often "after a few beers ago."
  15. wavey back and forth bottom I are remembering
  16. Not nearly enough from the looks of it.
  17. In 20 years my generation will be saying the same kinda stuff about the next crop of young whipper snappers crazy enough to huck themselves off of shit. "These kids don't even know who Dwain and Slim are." We'll fondly remember the days of F111 canopies, orbiting pilot chutes, offheading openings, etc. Nostalgia is a bittersweet bitch. Things never stay the same, but evolution is usually good. Enjoy your memories of the good old days. They can't be taken away and they are precious. Share them once in a while. We'd love to hear about them. Try to remember that what unites us all -- new and old -- are the feelings we get from this unique and beautiful sport. And take comfort in the fact that there are those among the newer generation who are still "keeping it real," but dz.com is the last place you would hear about it.
  18. Just want to throw in my 2c. If the list does go the way of a datbase driven web app, I for one would still like to still see all the pictures, names and stories on one page. It seems like being able to scroll through the entire list and read it without a bunch of clicking is part of the effect it has on me. A list of clickable names wouldn't be the same.
  19. There will be prizes for best costume and best jack o' lantern. Dinner is potluck, so bring something if you can. The temps are supposed to get into the sixties and it's supposed to be sunny all weekend. Come on out and I'll see you there!
  20. You should nuggetize yourself for that one. Thanks for what you do.
  21. Missing Asylum xl long sleeve tshirt and Asylum small short sleeve girly tshirt. I set them down on a chair at the Holiday and they weren't there when I went back.
  22. Nice, but I can't believe their idea of an accuracy contest is to see how close you can come to impaling yourself!
  23. What gweeks said... What they said... Nice. Pictures like that make me giggle and want to go grab my rig.
  24. Coming down the hill on a head down exit
  25. Hey, Cogratulations on Level 1. Have you made any more jumps? There are a few other Delmarva regulars on dz.com including BGill, akurtom, Scrumpot, monarch1 and Tink1717.
