  2. Thanks Rob! After seeing tented reserve closing loop anchor plates, excessive rip cord pull forces, and cracked skyhook covers, I have vowed never to use a leverage device to close a rig. One more question. Do you think, given Vigil's "Information Bulletin," keeping a Vigil Type 1 cutter in service if it's installed over a pilot chute violates this part of FAR 105 (I am in the US): "If installed, the automatic activation device must be maintained in accordance with manufacturer instructions for that automatic activation device."
  3. I just got a Sidewinder rig with a Vigil 1 and Type 1 cutter to repack. The cutter is located on the right side flap which goes over the pilot chute. According to this information bulletin the cutter must be replaced if it is located above the extractor (assuming that means pilot chute) even if the plastic heads do not appear to be damaged. I just want to make sure I'm reading this right and not telling the guy to spend $135 + shipping on a new cutter unnecessarily. Also, Paragear calls the new cutter a Vigil II Replacement cutter. Can it also be used on a Vigil 1? Thanks for any input!

  9. Skydive Delmarva 8/16/08-8/17/08 The herd will reunite for some great skydives and some epic infamous night time antics. This weekend will also be a full moon and the 48th anniversary of Joseph Kittingers world record jump from 102,800 feet. During the jump he free fell for 14 minutes and 36 seconds and reached a maximum speed of 613 mph. Get your fill of Catfish, Shrimp and Blue Crabs. The price will be around $25. Please let manifest know at least one week in advance if you want to participate by calling 888-875-3540 or emailing [email protected]. About The Herd by Mike Schultz The Central Atlantic region was, for a considerable number of years in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, endlessly entertained by a group of adventurous, impishly mirthful skydivers who occupied an old grass strip airport on the fringe of Gilbertsville PA. One of their annual events was known as ‘The Herd Boogie’, the most anticipated skydiving event of the year. … No one is sure how ‘The Herd’ evolved from a stellar competition team known as ‘The Circle of Fear’, composed of members of the United Parachute Club, but if you wanted to be somebody you had to spend time at their establishment. The apprehension of surviving a skydive was replaced by a concern for surviving the social antics of four days of being led through the night to the next day’s manifest by bonfires, impromptu forays through tent city looking for friends to ‘play’, fireworks, slugging down ‘Wapatuli’ juice, and all sorts of wild shenanigans. After sunrise, there was always at least one Herd member remaining standing to cajole everyone of the fragged-out partiers into exercises; primarily wheezing and gasping, and begging to be left alone. However, nothing retarded their enthusiasm for drying out the beer-soaked gear and packing up for some quality skydiving; usually very innovative. Sadly, after about 30 years since the ‘Herd’ heyday, they’ve dispersed (the DZ was sold for development), but their spirit and reputation lives on fondly in the hearts of the old-time skydiving community. Times have changed and the ‘Herd’ social mentality is fading. It was always predicted, and is apparently coming true, that the Herd members are arriving at their eventual destination of one of the four ‘A’s: Arthritis, Alzheimers, or Alcoholics Anonymous. We’re hoping that this Herd reunion will gather together enough of the Herd detritus to demonstrate to the new generation that camaraderie, joy, and raucous laughter are, after all, the real reason for skydiving. Be on notice that after hours, behavior usually begins with an R rating, proceeding to X, and finally XXXXXXXXXXX. Luckily, or maybe unluckily, we won’t see the one guy who would perform his morning calisthenics by attempting, for one hour, to suck his own ---. It’s said that he was finally successful and went off to live on a mountain somewhere. Ahhh, happiness!
  10. You've got a lot of great choices, but it looks like they're all 2-3 hours away. My home dropzone, Skydive Delmarva is a fun, friendly place with camping, a bunkhouse, and a bonfire every Saturday. Most people stay the whole weekend. It won't be hard to get in on a low key RW or freefly jump as most of the fun jumpers are pretty welcoming to new faces. Skydive the Point is my home away from home. I really like it there too. You can get into some bigger more technical RW jumps there and get to jump with the Queen of RW, Carol Clay. They also have some good times on Saturday nights. I'm excited to check out Skydive Baltimore when it gets up and running. I used to love going to Orange too, but you do need an AAD to jump there now. Chambersburg is another fun dropzone, but I haven't been there in a while either. Sounds like you've got a lot of driving to do if you want to see them all. Hopefully we'll run into at Skydive Delmarva one of these weekends.

  12. Got this from SSK: If a battery was installed in 08/06 it is good until the end of Aug. 2008. Always use the end of the month 2 years after initial installation.
  13. Many cypres 1 battery installation dates I've seen just state the month and year of installation, and the orange label on the unit says "last battery change in [month]/[year]." So let's say there is no evidence of the exact day the batteries were installed. For example the only date you have is August 2006. Do you interpret that as the batteries will expire on July 31st, 2008 or August 31st, 2008?
  14. Has anyone ever jumped there? If so, where did you go and how was it? We're considering a trip in July.
  15. If anyone knows this guy please tell him he can PM me for a free full-res copy of this shot.
  16. Hey Chuck, Christine and I should be there too and may try to bring some more Delmarva jumpers. Always nice running into you at the Florida boogies!
  17. Chuck Norris got pissed at Iceland one day so he roundhouse kicked it. A chunk flew off and sank the Titanic.
