  2. I think you already are. In my opinion, at the moment you should be jumping similarly sized Sabre2 or some other "semi elliptic" canopy. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)

  4. Just my thoughts 1. People getting to (and doing) wingsuiting might be more experienced and (or) current than average skydivers. 2. People flying wingsuits tend to use canopies that give fairly concervative wingloadings and good opening charasteristics, which may reduce the chance of accidents under canopy and during landings. 3. In many cases ws jumpers jump last, fly to where they want to open, open last (and often higher) which gives time, altitude and space to fly to landing zone safely. 5. I have jumped Mirage with WS-mod about 1000 jumps (about 400 ws), always packing the same way (grommet to pin) and with "wingsuit bridle". I have noticed no problems with this setup whatever I jump. Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)

    Best Canopy

Icarus FX I have about 350 wingsuit flights with an FX (79 and 70 sqft) loaded 2.1 - 2.6 with no chops. Consistent on heading openings most of the time, maybe linetwists 3-4 times, flying straight. With brakes stowed, not too prone to body control during unzipping legs etc. Swoops well, of course it´s not a velo or (j)vx... Downsides: descents rapidly in half brakes after opening, good thing to pull a lit higher. And when the spinning malfunction eventually comes, it's going to be fast and there will be no time to think if it can be fixed or not. Edited to add: with your jump numbers though I would maybe not advice Crossfire, nor FX. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  8. Only if someone wants a wingsuit with no decent pressurization in the wings :D Or at lest the attached photo looks like that... "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  9. OK, Jarno and others, maybe it just feels "flatter" than it really is :D "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  10. I think the suit ripping apart comes more from the wrong exit angle (combined with open wings) than having all wings open. I think the key for not losing the speed given by the plane is to exit in as shallow angle as possible, more at about 30 degrees than 45 degrees, and spread the wings more or less immediately. And if not exiting in shallow angle, trying to make the angle shallower just after the exit at the beginning of the "climb". At about 30 degrees angle of attack you're much nearer the angle of attack of efficient flight, thus creating as much lift and as low drag as possible. 11. Jarno, the Gibraltar project gps data is downloadable at http://www.frwd.fi/images/recordings/4/Estrecho_1_(Skydiving).fwd to display it you need a frwd player available at same website. I think it can also be transferred to google-earth to judge it on map. Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  12. Some pop ups from Herc 2004 can be seen in Jarnos dramatic trailer http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/uploads/mccordia_herc2004_trailer.wmv and of course on the full video that can also be found in skydivingmovies.com. Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  13. For wingsuit footage, a wingsuit ;) But for tandems and FS: BM tracking pants (good weight pockets above knees for tandem filming), Windstopper fleece jacket with rubber bands running inside from hip rings to thumb for tiny wings (if needed). "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  14. It depends. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  15. Not impossible though. And you don't even have to grap the flap. Just get someone who helps pushing you forward from your rig. Done that several times, as many others also have. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  16. Yes, there are two door configurations in C206's. The one that has the co-pilot door under the wing (like 182, 172). and the cargo rear door version, which lacks the co-pilot door (as otherwise the right side of the fuselage would be nothing but door). The U designation is for "Utility" and includes the rear door, and the two forward door version is the "P" as People/Passenger version. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  17. That is bad news indeed. A great man and flyer he was. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  18. Well said. I have never been able to afford two rigs, so I have had to choose the canopy with a combination of good enough opening characteristics for wingsuiting and at the same time to fulfill my love with fun canopy piloting. My first ws canopy (about 150 jumps) was a Contrail 105 (1,5lbs/sqft), but I found it too snivelly and prone to line twists. It's so far the only canopy I have chopped with 2000 jumps (~400ws). Quite soon after that I started looking for a canopy that would open more suitably and fly at least as well. I ended up with an FX 79, and later 70sqft (2,3lbs/sqft). I do know that's not the ideal ws canopy, but for me it's a fair compromize. Pros: appr. 90% straight onheading openings, 5% less than 180 degrees and 5% 1/2-1 line twists flying straight. Nice flying and swooping. Cons: the spinning chop will eventually come, need to open higher to deal with malfunctions and to give time/altitude to unzip etc. Smart enough? Only time will tell. 19. OK, I Looked it too briefly. You´re right, the pc is a too tight bundle compared to the bridle, and able move with its original momentum more than the bridle. I always pack my pc (skydive and base) with a mushroom technique, trying to avoid that tight bundle thing happening after pc throw. . "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  20. That's the problem of hackey handles. The ball weighs too much compared to the rest of the material and causes an U shaped bridle that may loop around the PC and cause knot over the pilot chute. Pc in tow when skydiving, total mal if base jumping. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)

  24. Looking from the Dutch video it seems that the impact with water was around 10 seconds from exit. If have understood, the rockdrop is around 9 seconds without a wingsuit. Also from the video, the opening sequence seems to have almost no horizontal trajectory. It seems the jumper tried to make the suit fly too long, but almost stalled all the way to (low) pulling altitude. Any thoughts from the people who saw it from above? Hope he shall heal fast.
