  1. I think the so called wingsuit flat spin is a bit confusing term. In my opinion it resembles the tandem side spin way more than a normal flat spin as in normal side spin the relative wind is coming to your belly and you spin relative to your "heading axis". In a side spin the relative wind hits you from the side (and causes it) and rotates the body so that the wings make up a kind of propeller shape against the airflow. This makes the side spin to build up so fast as it does. The side spin usually starts because a bad exit and air hitting from the side or after an unsuccessive aerobatic move falling on one side. 8. Why not to get BM-coaching at Empuria, as there should be three BMI's (Toni, Santi and Juan). Their contact information is available at BM web site. http://www.bird-man.com/?n=instructors&a=category&v=europe Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  9. Hi I have used the FRWD in skydiving, WS-flying and base-jumping. In all jumps I have had it mounted in my left arm, so that it points upwards. On wingsuit jumps it is located under the wing fabric as you really do not have to see it when using it (only one big button). When doing jumps from an airplane I always start the FRWD before boarding to insure a satellite lock before taking off. As GPS receivers do the locking best and give most accuracy when not in move. I usually sit on the rear section of our cessna 206 to give the unit the best possible wiev to sky. Just before exit I start recording by pusking the button. On base jumps, just start the FRWD when coming to exit point and start recording a second before exit. On wingsuit jumps I have had quite good readings about glide angle and speeds, though the problem is how to take away error caused by windspeed compared to ground. As the unit of course understands only groundspeed... if you have anything else to ask, please do not hesitate :) Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)

  13. Back at work in Finland. Thanks to all wingsuit flyers there for the great jumps and friendship. Can't wait to see the video of the jumps they never showed in the night's video. Vesa herc. boogie -06 T minus 1.000.000+ minutes and counting.. "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  14. In the Hercules boogie there will be about 40 wingsuit flyers, doing minimum 8-ways and maybe a maximum of 30-40-way. I also would concider a short safety seminar before jumping a better than a good idea to try to prevent these things from happening. Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)

  17. I would suggest you to observe the airspace in front (and a bit above) you during the opening. That way you are ready to turn away immediately if someone opens near you. It takes only one to make an evasive manouver to make a collision not true, but if you both are looking your snivelling canopies, there is no one to do it. Also by looking straight ahead your shoulders should be more level than if you start concentrating to what you see instead of concentrating to what you feel through the harness. Just my thoughts... 20. More variables Density altitude calculated from air temperature, humidity, altitude and air pressure. The more dense (low, cold, dry) the air is, the more lift you get. Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)
  21. I jumped an Ace105 with a wingloading of about 1.5-1.6 for 700 jumps and was very happy with the canopy. Openings were predictable, nice and soft. Longer and better on-heading compared to Stiletto. The canopy itself flew quite the same as Stiletto, but had maybe a bit more lift at the end of the flare. Front riser pressure was maybe a bit harder and recovery arch quite the same as with Stiletto. So I think it can be compared to Stiletto in many aspects. I have not flown Safire but think the Ace is more agressive canopy... Vesa "Fear is the path to the Dark side" (Master Yoda)

    Kjerag

The first jump course SBK arranges at Kjerag really is worth taking, especially the pendulator is a good help for the exit training. BUT I'd like to emphasize that the FJC is a basic course for jumping at Kjerag. It doesn't include too much about jumping other objects or places, lower or higher. And therefore one must get coaching for those objects some other way. Of course SBK's instroctors are incredibly experienced base-jumpers also regarding to other objects and worth asking advice in any base related subjects.
