  1. I can not talk for room mates, but I have had my fair share of housemates. Think before hand what you are realistically willing to put up with (cost, location, type of house, traits of housemates) and keep yourself to this list. If the other person sounds ultra clean freak they probably are. If they have pets and you do not like them, or do not feel you will contribute you might skip this. Are you willing to move in with only females or only males and think why. Like all generalisations you can get it wrong so meet the person and have a coffee with them and be honest and do not hold back with what you ask. If you hate your housemate and hence do not like going home it will make for a pretty shitty 6 months. Talk to your housemates about things that bother you that they can change.

    Tunnels in Oz

Trav, If i knew you were interested I would have pointed Fred out to you at Moruya. It is a pitty that it has not happened sooner. I can only cross my fingers and hope. I believe gong was picked for economics, if you have finances and other sites I guess you could always point Fred in the right direction. But I would asume he has done a fair bit of research on this. I also understand the council was very supportive and so forth. I too think QLD would be good, but it would limit the amount I could go there.
  3. Grading the local pubs was the best way I found to put up with extended travels.

    Base 1000

    Congrats Matt.
  5. I hope you do get back up soon. I have been out for 5 months or more. Think of this as being a chance to learn all the important lessons on the ground before you need them when they really count. Also use this as an opportunity to buy all the gear you need. I know I would not be fully kitted out if it was not for my accident. Also if possible, whatever you were spending on skydiving, place aside so that you can make up for the weeks off when you get back to it. It is better doing this than spending the money on crap because you are grounded. Get well soon.
  6. I have not read all of this thread. Consider if you are travelling to another country that requires an AAD for your license. As it would suck going on holidays and not being able to jump your own rig for this reason.
  7. To just clarify what Trav is saying. An experienced skydiver in Australia can only pack for themselves or another experienced skydiver. So if you are a student you can pack for yourself. But if you wish to pack for another student you must have either Packer A, Packer B or Rigger qualifications. This is my understanding but I would recommend reading all the rules a few times. Oh and to add, to pack your own as a student you must have one of the above qualifications supervise you. Once you have been signed off for packing (requirement of A license) you can pack without supervision.
  8. Come to Australia and you can buy your own coke. Only have to be 18 here.
  9. Broke my leg in a motorbike accident (car hit me). Will be another 2 months but I am walking now without crutches so I am happy.
  10. One thing I would not have thought of but it was mentioned in another thread. Bring Tooth floss because it is small and use it to pass up things if you get stuck on a ledge.
  11. How did you get it to go down in the end. I have a few thoughts on it but would like to know.

    NEPTUNE

Anyone know if the neptune logs more or less details per jump. Does it only log all details for x number of jumps, and then basic details after that like pro track, if so what number of jumps. Probably in the manual but im a lazy aussie.

    Australian Story

It definately amuses me that they state that they take abundant amounts of rescue workers time. If you think about it being an illegal activity most rescues would be conducted on the QT whereever possible. Look at the recent one OZ accident posted here, they sat for hours before they were rescued and dit it them selves. Also a number of people one the ABC forum kept harping on the fact that it was illegal. It is my understanding that it is not illegal to BASE jump only to do so without a permit. So its obvious they were not listening. The positive comments did make me smile. I wonder what these same people would say about a skydiving family.
  14. I have to say I appreciated Lainey keeping me company when I was grounded at Moruya.

    Australian Story

That looked like a good show. And because of the type of show they were not able to sensationalise it etc.. Good for the base community IHO. Congrats Glen. Thanks again Luke.

    The End . . . ?

Thanks for the words of wisdom, I needed them atm. Best of luck with everything, but I think ill get in trouble for using the word luck.
  17. Squeak, I share alot of your doubts (for lack of a better word). But I do have to say there have been a number of people on here that have helped me out, not financially but giving me lifts, keeping me occupied when I was grounded, and teaching me how to do things, lending me shit. And I am not even female (not last time I checked). I think it goes with the sport. But I agree I think it is easier for a female in similar situations. Mind you they have to put up with wierd ass guys trying to crack onto them all the time. I personally just like doing things for myself, and I will help anyone out if I can. Yay for dz.commers!!
  18. I notice there is a base and a skydiving version of these pants. Has anyone had any experience using the base pants while skydiving. Any adverse effects?
  19. I do have to say that is an awkward moment when you start talking skydiving to a whuffo who has done one jump. By this I mean someone who has done one jump and then clearly has no interest in it after that, it was just a tick in the box. This happened to me recently. I was not pissed off he wore the T-shirt but did find it amusing.
  20. Thanks a heap nate. Watched it a few times already and I am sure I will watch it many times over the next few weeks.

    Low cliff jumping?

I have heard the statement that Australia has mostly advanced/dangerous exit points. I do not know if this is also true for America, but I have heard this statement a few times about Oz exit points. Could the original statement sub 200' jumps being routine, have been a the above wrongly worded or misunderstood.

    Australian Story

I am guessing no one got this on their tivo or taped it? I would like to see it.
  23. I would ask what you consider the early plane, object, ground jumps and think where you would place these people if the unfortunate occured. Some of these people if I am not mistaken are considered base jumpers even if they did not continue doing more fixed objects. Mind you BASE is all four object types so does the person need a base number. I personally would consider someone who you know is obviously worthy of the bottom list, and then place them in the same shoes as this jump and ask yourself where it would be placed. It sounds like this is his first attempt at a fixed object, but it would be weird if you make a new list for him and then someone attempts a similar thing but because they are well known you then place them on the top list. I do agree with Tom that this list has a large number of very important lessons and it would be benifital to add him somewhere on your list (top bottom or new). It appears he did alot of research, so I am guessing if someone was in a similar boat today, hopefully they will find reference to this incident and learn from it. I personally think that it should be something along the lines of "Accidents jumping from fixed objects (non base)" would be the general gist of the title I would use.
  24. Doh! Gotta remember to remove the name from the topic next. Oh and I gotta read all the posts I press reply on. Funny as though.
