  1. Thanks for your post, I definately will try a few of those out. I also want to learn to psycho and pro pack. And definately I am debating if I wish to do more still or more video. I might not even get time, or there might not be appropriate spots to sit but if I do not get to try these tips this weekend I am sure I can practice with cars or try another. The D100 only appears to have 6 frame burst at highest quality. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond100/page2.asp
  2. [hijack] You can always reply to the previous thread if you find something nice but it has already been posted. Problem with reposting is you get less and less information about the topic and hence do not learn as much from the experience. If you read the original post for this video there is alot of good information on how/why it happened. It also shows a me me me attitude on the internet when people do not take the time to search for old threads, or just post in a thread on a similar topic instead of starting a new one. In my case I was on a highly technical forum once and reposts really did make it hard to search for the answers you were after. Also the naming of subjects and the descriptions in the posts themselves during "reposts" is normally very poor. So sometimes you download something that takes a little while to do and then find it is the same thing, which can be a bummer. Please these views are not directed at this thread itself, but reposts in general.[/hijack]
  3. Thanks for the advice. I had already conceded to the fact I would probably have to resort to sitting next to a tree, windsock or the hanger to keep out of peoples way. If I am further away what sort of lens would be a good one for 100-200 meters away? (have not seen the LZ yet) I just mentioned 1/125 because that is what one book mentioned they took for a cycle shot I liked. Its definitely nice to know I need a faster shutter speed. Have you found being on the side is more effective than being infront or visa versa? I know it depends what shots you are after but has anyone got a preference. What about the last load of the day. Sunset can be tricky to get a nice shot, any tricks? I mean even if the advice is RTFM and you have a good book or website I am up for it. Basically I am very new to photography and would like to learn the general rules and any tips and tricks. I mainly do not want to reinvent the wheel if some people have found some things do not work etc.. Btw thanks for the link, there were a number of great photos.
  4. I agree it can be hard to find a movie that fits exactly what you are looking for but it is a good reference to get a general feel. I agree that asking the DZ for one of their day tapes might be a good way to get a feel for what to expect, and you might learn a little while you are at the DZ even if you don't jump. I had a quick look through skydiving movies and the link below is someone doing aff stage 1. It has some ground shots, some plane shots and some air shots (no landing). Definately do not use it as a guide on how to fly, but to get an idea what someone looks like during AFF stage 1 its ok. I enjoyed watching it and it reminded me of my first jump (not long ago). http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1840
  5. Hi all, Sorry for intruding on this forum as I am not a camera flyer etc.. On the weekend I will be going to my first boogie. Pretty much I am grounded (broken leg) so I want to film and take photographs of landings. Has anyone got any tips for taking photographs for landings, or just some funky things to try out to learn more about photography. I am trying to skim read as many books over the next few days but hopefully you guys/gals might have some tips that will help me out. I will have a Nikon D100, Sony PC101, Cannon Ixus 440. If I get enough warning I can also obtain lenses or filters if you have any "must have" items. I will be bringing a few sets of batteries for all cameras and 20gb flash card backup unit. I guess I would set the camera to shutter priority 1/125 or so. I also want to try ~1/30 and move with the object to get a blur effect. I have fast compact flash cards so I could try burst firing 12 shots or so. Also I guess the light behind me would be best placement? Any suggestions of places to be to get interesting shots etc.. Thanks in advance.
  6. If you look at the posts quoted by spoons a person present on the day answered all your questions, including what he said at the end.
  7. There was a thread about the Bone Head Mamba a little while back where someone had a 63cm head. Hottamaly said that they are creating large moulds so hopefully that one will fit. So it is worth looking into that one. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1425890
  8. This was posted a few months back. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1398244
  9. Thanks for your post. I would first like to say that I did not think jumping out from 14000feet was wimpy, being attached to an instructor or not. Since your stages are different to ours in Australia I do not know what stage 2 and 3 are. Best of luck with your aff and hope you enjoy yourself here.

    Skydiving Comic

We should have a competition of who can do that circle in the weirdest places.
  11. This was posted very shortly after the incident occured. Shocking video. The s#$t f#%k counters were a nice touch. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1450742;search_string=double%20malfunction;#1450742
  12. I read someone post the same advice a few days back. I am definatly considering getting one of these, however I do have a lack of space at my place. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1483942;#1483942
  13. That show will be on here on Tuesday night here in OZ. Mind you I do not watch TV much so I probably will not watch it.
  14. If I end up being there the second weekend I will shout you a ticket. Man I should be the only cripple not jumping. It should be interesting to see how the nightlife will be. I am so looking forward to it. I have missed my home DZs xmas party and its 40th birthday because of this stupid leg hopefully I wont miss Moruya Bob.dino will you be there the first weekend?
  15. Sorry laughing was the wrong term. I do not even know what term to use to describe why ppl like at sites with all these sorts of videos. I just hope you do read up on that base accident. But sorry again, laughing was the wrong way to describe it.
  16. There was another thread about this topic not long ago. I learnt alot from it so hopefully it might be of interest to you. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1289336
  17. Thanks for the thread. Made me laugh. I havent talked to my sister in a while, guess I should give her a call tonite sometime.
  18. This has been posted about a fair bit. You can find the video on a skydiving movies. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1004
  19. Hi Bouda, First I would put NSFW on those videos next time you post similar stuff. I have not clicked on the links, but by the names of them I can only guess it is the payback car video and the dam base jump. Both these videos have been posted a large amount of times in the base forum. If you actually care about what went wrong and how the guy is (in regards to the base jump) please look through the base forums for the thread. If you do not care what went wrong or how the guy is, your post is in really bad taste. And I am guessing the latter is the case since you posted a stupid kid getting hit up in a car for us to laugh at and then posted the base one without any comments.
  20. What sort of shutter time did you have on these photos? They look great btw.
  21. Hi Brumby, Thanks for sharing. Do you have any indication as to what caused the hard opening. Did you recall forgetting to roll the nose, body position or put the slider up? Or can these things "just happen". Also I have read about a number of hard openings on this forum but rarely have I heard of lines breaking, let alone 6. Would you be able to mention your wingloading, canopy type/size, age of lines (jumps).
  22. The Morya boogie is coming up soon, and I just wanted to know how many dz.commers are going to attend. What do you think you will be doing when you are there. How far away will be you travelling from. I for one will be taking photos from the ground because that is all I am good for at the moment. I have to add I suck at taking photos. I have stolen the text from their website and placed it below. Please check their website to get the most up to date info.
  23. Hi Delta, I do not know how you want to play this. If I could do my AFF again I would have saved up and done it in one big go. Yes you do not get to jump regularly now. But it has cost you less in the long run to get your license and due to muscle memory hopefully you didnt fail as much. Static line may be cheaper but you have to do more jumps, and due to the limited number of DZs in Australia that do it this may cause problems. Also depending on the politics (please PM me or anyone else, instead of posting here) if it is only petty I would suck it up and keep on going. We have very few dropzones in OZ and it does limit your choices if you ignore one DZ. Sometimes I get pissed at my DZ because there are only a few loads because weather or number of jumpers, but then I get to know the people I am jumping with alot better and normally learn alot more. Also it does help mean I get some time to clean up around the DZ. I have not jumped at Ramblers but I hope to jump there soon. A few of my friends fly up there from southern states just to go to the learning curve camps. So this may be another option to you. But sometimes a bit of pain now (not jumping) may mean a better outcome in the long run. Of course this totally depends on your situation.
  24. Normally a good clean will fix these problems. Look at the label side to see if there are not scratches or blisters. Pay special attention to the inside circle. DVD diagnositics is a great program that has recovered alot of things for me in the past. But it costs money and of course at the end of the day it could be a phsyical fault with the disc, and recovering 99% of the data might mean you still can't view your video. Most of the time I just give my discs a very good clean. Remember to polish ONLY the side opposite to the label. When polishing do it from the centre to the outside. It must be mirror finish else the scratches may still affect the disc. Polishing compounds sometimes help, but its normally easier to get a CD polishing kit. http://www.infinadyne.com/cddvd_diagnostic.html Also there might be the fact that its a (say) DVD-R disc and you are putting it in a DVD+R player or visa versa. This happened to me recently and only the newer multi readers would read a disc. In this case I just used DVD shrink to copy the dvd (from a drive that it worked on) to a DVD format that I knew worked.
