  2. Although I am not currently in tip top shape, I am no stranger to the concept of mind over matter... I agree that you can push yourself quite far, even when your body doesn't really feel up to it. The original plan was for him to do a rather difficult route (by himself) that would have lasted about a week... Trouble is his knee has been bothering him of late, so he decided not to go at all. I thought I'd cheer him up by suggesting we do an easy trail together over the weekend. He was delighted - not the challenge he was looking forward to, but a not-so-bad compromise... Well, at the end of the hike, even he was in pain, and I explained to him again that 3-4 hours is really all I want to do in one day. I think he assumed if we went "slowly" the length/difficulty of the hike was irrelevant... However, his notion of "slow" is still too fast for me... I explained this as well. I think he gets it now. you don't really need strength for this. What you want to do is build up your stamina reserves and your mental mind set than pure power. Experience should have told him not to attempt it, if he was carrying a injury Nataly. Especially excepting your kind offer to cheer him up. Another easier route would have been better. I know the frustration of putting of the adventurous walks, currently had a walk planned for the most northerly Munro which is a serious 6 hours drive to get to with good weather for Photographs(weather has been pants/crap ). Funny thing is its usually tends to be to experienced people who hop from stone to stone or move faster than recommend and over estimates their ability. Than the more cautious newbie who will place feet slower and be more attentive to placing feet and moving in a more organised way as the who is more. For new walkers its always good to start off small and steadily build difficulty or hight up in a gradual way. Me i have only in the last year been hillwalking again after a year out with my motorbike accident and i gradually built my stamina back up. I have a training hill i now well and have used to build that stamina over the years. Try again if you like the idea some the sites you see can be breath taking and will Knock your socks off , if you feel its not for you try country parks with organised routes and perhaps Ranger excursions. I don't really Know how you guys in the USA are organised so perhaps one of the others would be best Chipping. As already mentioned good equipment/ gear(especially boots) is worth its weight in gold

  6. Seriously, I think this is what it is... I really think he doesn't get that I am not uber-fit at the moment... Also, he has been hiking/climbing from a VERY young age, so I he underestimates how hard it is for a beginner. I obviously had a talk with him (again) and I like Wendy's idea of planning the hike. (I think it was Wendy's idea - sorry if I am attributing this stroke of genius to the wrong genius! ) I don't know enough to plan the whole thing myself, but next time I will ask him to show/explain in advance what he is planning and agree on a "Plan B" route that is easier/harder so we have options. Having been Hillwalking for over 20 years Nataly i would defiantly tell your boyfriend your concerns. Cannucks advise is good as hillwalking sticks alleviate the pressure placed on your Knees and legs shock absorbing on downward slopes(less pain next day). They also act as good pace setters when going on flat surfaces If you take people out on the Hills then you must be aware of the route and more importantly, that the group will only be going as fast as the slowest person and plan accordingly. The Group leader should speak to the group and make them aware of the route how long how difficult the terrain is prior to selection. There is a lot more involved in being safe out there, Pick the right equipment. Leave a route plan with a friend or family or with the Mountain rangers for the area with a estimated time for completion and add on a sfety margin for to contact them . This way if anything goes wrong they now the area to search and will be a lot quicker. In the UK Mountain rescue is a volunteer service. so most experienced hillwalkers / mountaineers, try not to do anything that might lead to them getting called out. The mountains are there to be enjoyed its not meant to be a Chore, if it is then something is wrong. Have fun stay safe Its been a month from my last outing in Glen Coe, feet are itching again lol this was my morning http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/8008932629/ Rainreach 1st Munro http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/8008929425/ This was my 2nd http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/8008989867/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/8009103481/ Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun
  7. Yeh looks like while setting up the Jumper moved to get head out the door while then moving back and up. At 40-42 secs jumper caught the flap and probably pushed the pin out and so released the pilotchute all in one motion very lucky Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun

  9. Until the last 8 years when i started jumping cuts and bruises but never had a Broken bone or stitches. Since then fractured back on 1st crw landing Head stitches require for large Cut on my forehead while taking Urban explore photographs in London Last but not least last years having a argument with a large lorry while on my Motorbike where it was almost lost my life almost lost my foot and spent a year recovering to almost normal. My typing is not that good (especially on my phone it is like a unknown language at times) Walking around, well i walk and can now run but when walking its with a limp at times due to plastic and orthopaedic surgery. The only pursuit i have not done any damage in is my Hillwalking /mountaineering in 20+ years of doing it
  10. That's quite a interesting and innovative design. it would live or die by the quality of its lens and with it being Hd you would expect it to be good but you never Now. Its been a bit of a concern from some of the stuff i have seen out there on video of what people are using some times my eyes pop as to how they managed to get it by a inspection by a CCI for snag hazards. Would be a good starting point for new jumpers if its up to the Job with the HUD type idea. Be interesting to see if it takes off. Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun

  13. Well to be honest I have only ever had good dealing with Wings when dealing with them that was a number of years ago. From across the pond I got a really good response. Every time could be different but when i spoke/ emailed them I always got a quick and polite answer to my requests. So to be honest quite surprised at that the wings thread was god damn long enough and well the amount of people buying from them. Must have meant that their customer service must have been ok then ?. iPhone 5,

The iPhone 5 is a little less than 1/2 inch taller and it's actually smaller if you consider its entire volume because of how much thinner it is from front to back. Check my math. http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/ So, in reality it's smaller and lighter. I believe you .......................but when did you start wearing tight girls tight jeans Quade is there something your not telling us Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun

    iPhone 5,

I was quite surprised when we renewed my daughters contract. She is a apple fan . I am not ,discussions can be hot . She knocked me for 6 though, by turning down the iphone 5 and plumping for the 4s ! i thought she would have went for the new one. Her reason was its was too large that simple it would not be comfy in the tight jeans teenagers squeeze into was the other reason why she discounted the Samsung galaxy s3. wonder if this will be a big issue for the younger generation ? Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun
  17. Not since being a teenager, as jumperwally said wasteful. You either let in consume you or you learn with time and experience to just get on with enjoying life. Seen the first option in some guys and they where heading for the nearest mental health professionals help , glad to say went the second way
  18. Good Choice for you Dave and respect for taking it mate. Life is a evolutionary track and if you have to make adjustments to have a smile on your face along the way so be it . My kids have always been there and i have been hillwalking for over 20 years but its been random bit like my jumping it happens when it does not all the time. Next year i will loose my Daughter probably as she goes off to University which is the end of her child hood. Prior to that she is off to Ethiopia to teach English by the looks of it and well its her choice and i support her but being a parent my heart is unsettled and i worry. I haven't told her that as i don't want to upset her plans. You get once chance with your kids to experience them growing up other parents will know what i am talking about. Its something you don't want to miss and would regret Some times a slight step back is a good thing
