  1. I paid a little extra to have my Main PC, main bridle, reserve PC and freebag in bright neon yellow (custom color). After all, the only time you see them is the time when you also want everybody else to see them easily. Rob also hinted me to writing a "Return to airfield for reward + my name" on the freebag bridle. I designed my canopy colors so that they'd be visible under pretty much any visual conditions. I used to jump at a DZ basically IN the forest where searching cutaways was a must team effort (Spa/B). The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 3. Hi folks, here are my two german DZs for the moment, plus the beautiful Pitt Meadows DZ in Vancouver, BC. Is there some way to index all submitted files? Or a way to download all available ones as a Google Earth group/folder? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Skydive Saulgau

I came to Saulgau after returning from Canada, just because it was the closest turbine DZ from Stuttgart. I found it to be a great place with very experienced jumpers (There's also a number of regulars from different US installations), very friendly staff and a really good vibe. That's why I made it my new home DZ. They have free camping, pay-per use showers (0,50 EUR/use) and good restaurants in range if there doesn't happen to be a BBQ. You will definitely have a good time here. Even though there's no bunkhouse, there are hotels and hostels closeby for those who don't like (free) camping. DZ coordinates: Lat: 48° 1'46.74"N Lon: 9°30'23.39"E
  5. Went there twice so far, nice place with their own Pilatus. Sometimes (check the schedule/calendar) they have a Beech 99 there that totally kicks *ss, it will get you up to 4km in ~10 minutes. They also host the "Go Vertical" once/twice per year where the Beech 99 goes to 4500 m each run for the regular ticket price, at a registration fee of 30 EUR. Free camping, shops and restaurants in Leutkirch town about 5/10minute drive away.
  6. The K-line also stretches a bit over the course of numerous jumps and the ink usually fades too, so the marking moves away from the "eye" and is not visible as well anymore. Simply take a marker pen at the start of the season and refresh the thing. Keep as many checkpoints you can have that your rig works because you never know when you might pass on one. 7. Given my specs, I will not be able to reach these parameters, so to me and my jumping characteristics the manual statements hold true. Given the experience level someone should have to successfully exceed the parameters and trigger activation, the blame game "the manual said you can do whatever, it will work" IMO is saying that whoever is using the device was not using proper judgment. If you are such an experienced jumper, you MUST be aware of this risk, as the manual states the activation speed in a different section. Obviously the fact both the 78 mph speed statement and the whatever you can think of statement are in the same manual should make everybody who reads it aware that they should consider that the manual probably talks about the smallest canopies, but doesn't say anything on their wingloading, as well as consider that this statement still holds true for 99.9% of skydivers. There will never be any manual that absolutely covers all points, all kinds of use, all possibilities. What will it be? A manual that is filled with legal and whatever may happen clutter that those 99.9% of skydivers wouldn't even read anymore, resulting in more danger to more people or having an athlete, who operates on an extreme side of an extreme sport and who is given enough info to make informed decisions, make a personally judged decision based on his knowledge and experience? 8. Well, the way I fold my PC I have only the little strap from the Pud to the Apex and the bridle at the actual elastic location, the PC fabric remains expanded inside the pouch. As the pouch itself does not squeeze the fabric, it doesn't push it against the elastic from the inside. Also, the pud overlaps the elastic a bit. I'd never take a spandex BOC again. Sometimes I need a bit higher pull force as I noticed, but no hard pull danger. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 9. I made a sort of arm and leg flame design for my suit, the flames being red-on-yellow tie-dye, yellow trim and navy blue torso. I gave some very specific instructions as to the number of flame spikes, for example that I wanted the arm ones to extend all the way onto the chest, and those on the legs a bit irregular in length. I sent them a pic of my gear so they could match it up. They checked back with me for the exact colors (I sent a somewhat bad picture at first, blue looked royal not navy) and got to work. The result was a suit that looks perfectly matching to both my body, my rig and my idea. Its cut size is perfect giving me my perfect speed range. Not an inch of cloth too much or too little anywhere. The Suit seemed to have made a big difference in my flying too. See the suit in my avatar picture. Got lots of compliments for it so far. Good they're still around, I was worried after the hurricane last year. Still wanted to get some of their swoop pants...
  10. How about simply packing your PC so that it gets pulled out of instead of balling up inside the BOC when there is pull force on the bridle? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  11. When I was shopping for gear 18 month back, I originally wanted a Jav Odyssey, because of the cutin laterals, Paratec didn't have the Century options back then. But then my Odyssey order wasn't placed properly (Issue caused by the sponsored guy who wanted to order for me.), and since by then I was in Canada I went for a Wings. Had I been in Germany, I'd have gotten a NeXt. Now with the Century options available, I'd get one if I was in Europe. (Not that I'm in any way unhappy with my Wings, though... I'd have to do some NeXt Test jumping to do...) The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

  13. Word. I totally recommend Wings, I own one and I've never had any flaps open. Not so on the Jav I owned before. As my Wings was custom made it's an awesome fit. I actually got stressed out on my first jump on it bc there wasn't anything squeezing anywhere and and I hardly felt the rig! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 14. Japan has some skydiving as far as I know, Korea and China as well as the rest of asia (with the exception of Thailand and Singapore and theit big boogies) don't seem to have any recreational skydiving. And where there are no people jumping, few are inclined to build and jump their own rig. There are two or three to five manufacturers in Germany (Paratec, Performance Variable, HiPer, Airtec etc.). 17. Well, it should not take much to avoid mistakes in PR like they happened in other cases, but that gets offtopic. In an early phase like this, claims can be made as bold as they want to, because they can still work on it to meet the claim before the unit is on the market. 21. When german troops in WWII shot members of the resistance (taken in armed but ununiformed), it was called a war crime. This guy shoots a handcuffed prisoner, there's nothing right about it, it's a war crime. Just because he was an ally of the US doesn't change that. 22. Hey Kai i got the Radiators, and they're ok, i only get a bit of air under them when i do bellyflying, but then i just squint my eyes a little and the gaps are shut. I've never had any distortion issues (they're not adjusted lenses, so they dont distort). The only thing i'd advise you is to watch out for lens colour, as the lens colour can change your perception of contrasts, which in turn can lead you to misjudge distances. I love mine for Flying, apart from my old school clear Sorz goglles they offer the best field of view (and a better, more secure fit). HTH The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 24. Just do your EPs right there, throw out (or pullout), cutaway and reserve. This will give you a little feel on how hard the peel/pull is (for a total, that is) and you will see whether your reserve PCs' spring is flying off your back or not (it better be). I always find i learn something new whenever i watch a rigger do the inspection/repack. I was also very curious on the first repack of my new gear this spring as to the "peel-feel" and handling of my reserve pillow. Having popped it twice for repacks now, i have no doubt i can pop it whenever i should need to. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 25. Good call of the pilot to abort the jump. Disclaimer, i'm no rigger. The ball on the reserve cable should not rest tight against the handle, there should be a little slack in the cable.
