  1. Try messaging PVinfo (Shorty) on here, he's a demo guy for PV... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  2. Actually not the Astra, but the (mechanical) Guardian/FXC was meant. Sorry for the confusion. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

  4. By reading the Airtec Service Bulletin, which states the batch numbers and DOMs of affected units, and it also states that the units only have bad displays yet still operate normally and would fire if need be. The Bulletin was out a week after the problem turned up. Bad subcontractor batch addressed openly and straight away... I can't see a bad thing with this, as no life would have been endangered. Sounds contradictory. Did they say it was safe to jump or "It's okay, send it back"? If they said "send it back", then sounds not necessarily believable. How do you know? (I'm not saying your post is not believable) The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  5. Awww, poor AAD. This is just not true. Cypres misfires are reported and watched just as closely by the community. Everybody knows a batch of Cypres 2s had an issue with the display. Apart from that, i have yet to hear of any documented Cypres 2 misfires. Astras' FXCs are well known for their inaccuracies under certain circumstances, yet reliable within certain parameters (or so i hear, never used one, but still see them around). Maybe critique is not as loud because Airtec has a very good record of misfire research and issue adressing (Like publishing the exact batch numbers affected etc.)Call it rumor control, if you wish). As far as i am concerned, DeLand Majik are using Vigils, and they may be happy with them, but to my record (which may not be accurate, of course) there is still a 3k in-air misfire (that happened in DeLand) that nobody knows why it happened. If AAD does not feel they need to address this or label it a rumor they don't need to cope with, it's their decision. To me it shows that they don't mind about what potential customers get to hear in the market. Unsubstanciated rumors can easily be addressed with facts. If one chooses to not invalidate rumors by presenting facts, but rather to not care about rumors, i think there might not be facts available to inavlidate them (even if there probably are). And it's a serious underestimation of the importance of word of mouth in skydiving. Of course, the version mess around beta/pre-series/series but prototype software/whatnot units and personell differences during the launching stages of the product were not helpful in building a reputation. Neither was the instruction to just rerout the cutter to not cut the loop on the static line service bulletin. And an attribute like water resistance being available soon is not an asset (referring to the website here). That's just smoke screen. It will be once available. Not fair? Maybe, but i'm a potential customer, so do better and convince me. I'm not a believer, i have to be convinced. Convince me that your product is superior to the other one with 12 years of field experience, and you will get my money. I don't want to take chances on a lifesaving device. 7. well, (this is german law though...) when you bought it off him, you had a contract that stated he has to provide you with the ownership of the gear for the money you pay. He can't provide ownership of stolen gear, because he never got ownership when he stole it(ownership remains with the original rightful owner). So he didn't fullfill his part of the deal and has to give all your money back. Same thing with when you sold the gear. Basically everybody has to give it all back to the respective person. Theoretically all good, but usually the thief doesn't have the money, why he steals in the first place... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 8. That subject came up some time ago in the german forum... You might want to PM Shorty from PV (DZ.com Username: PVinfo) for more info. Look at the manual of it here (german only...). You can check out the color schemes (no custom colors on this one) at myskyshop.com. HTH! Edit: According to the above site and the feedback that came in the german forum, it's an intermediate canopy. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 9. What do you mean? My copy is still lying in the manifest as i forgot it there last time i was out! I won't make it in this weekend (well, maybe sunday, if the grad party isn't too good ), so that should give you some time to glance over these chapters as well. I'll be back out wednesday, please schedule me for a repack, too!
  10. You should find yourself some new friends as it seems... If a friend of mine told me he was going up, that's fine with me. It's YOU who has to land the canopy, not them. If a friend asks me for my opinion, basically i tell them to jump what they feel comfortable with. Just as i told my friend who gave me a 120 (as he thought it was better for me than a 135), i didn't feel ready for it (even though i stood up the landing). He agreed it's no good to jump a canopy yuo're not comfortable with. 25 jumps later i retried the 120 and loved it, even though i didn't expect that. If someone says my canopy size is too big i smile and walk away. If they say my canopy size is too small i listen what they have to say and whether it makes sense to me and in my context. 11. Try a forum search for first rig. Listen to your instructors.
  12. Happens A LOT with worn out tuck tabs on javelins (my old one included). The unravelin Javelin... It's just an outdated way (IMO) to not have the main flap tuck back into itself, which completely solves the issue. A buddy of mine just had our rigger install a small rubber band between the top part and the tuck tab to keep them together stronger. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 13. Nice rig. I can't believe no one has mentioned that yet.... BEEEEEEER! Or are you guys not used to something "immediate" anymore after the wait? Or maybe because it's monday morning? 14. ~~~VIBES~~~ Damned! I only went there once and had a great time. Really hurts seeing that great place in such a shape. If there's anything non-local (overseas/westcoast etc) jumpers can do who want to help (apart from coming back to jump there), it would be good to know. I hope everyone there keeps going! I only have my Freakin' suit for like 3 month, and it rocks... Wanna get some swoop pants too! And there's nothing like a Jumpin' Jacks Breakfast after last nights party and before (or after ) the first jump of the day. Keep going people! Please! I'll be back! 18. You're not the only one. It's features are really nice, but one seems to be gambling whether you get a unit that works fine or one that bugs out the next possible moment. That's how i read it from here on dz.com. A fellow jumper at my home dz has one, and he hasn't encountered any problems yet and really likes it. 19. I really like that Performance Number idea, as it attributes more factors than just the WL. I'd rather call it a "gear factor" or "risk factor" (gear s my fav)... I would also consider it more jumper than canopy-related. Like "My gear factor is 2.3 on my 120"... Like the Wingloading, it doesn't say anything about the canopy, but the number would significantly increase if i went to a fully eliptical at same size/WL, thus giving a warning... Well, the example was played out in number factors, so how about not being hardheaded and make a "Semi semi elliptical" a 0.05, a slightly more tapered a 0.1 and a strongly tapered a 0.4? edited for sticky fingers... 20. No. It was simply to state that on a barometric altimeter indicated altitude does not equal factual altitude (equal meaning exactly matching). They still are very useful low-tech mechanical devices. As i have no clue how exactly the digitals work, i assume that they are actively measuring surrounding air pressure. In some countries (UK?) it is not officially allowed to use sensitive (active) devices as your only skydiving altimeter (like the Suunto watches etc.). Motto: Why rely on something thats' battery can fail if a no-battery mechanical device does the job? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 21. Barometric Altimeters for skydiving are not super-prezise. Any altimeter shows "off" somewhere on it's scale, and if you get a good alti, they will send you a report from calibration showing how much it shows off at which standard atmospheric altitude. This is due to tolerances in the manufacture of the pressure pill. Mine reads correctly at 1000 m, shows -100m off at 0m (ground) and 200m at 4000m. So if i zero it at the DZ, i know it reads my precise altitude at 1100m. And i know i don't really get 4200m even though my alti makes me believe. 22. I had a number of caoch jumps, but only on a "by opportunity" basis. They didn't really help much, until i felt the tube for the first time during a solo. The weekend after that i got the great opportunity to jump with Max Cohn for his slots only and managed to do two jumps with him. His way to instruct was way different from what i had previously experienced from coaches, and i could get a lot more for myself out of it.
  23. I jumped a VectorII when i was waiting for my Wings... Velcro riser covers opening constantly (it was quite well maintained), letting a toggle out once putting me in a nice spinny opening on my 120... Could have been worse. You don't want to have shit opening at 200+ mph, and there are rigs out there that will open a lot sooner.... Be careful giving advice like that... People can get hurt. 24. Just getting into solid HD myself, and i can see it's tempting, but as i jump with solid sitlings and not HDers most of the time, i find it more fun to mix it all up with HD/HU. I think it puts things more out of perspective in that positive way, ya know... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 25. WORD! I just got my first Freakin" Suit early this year and i couldn't be happier. Compared to my sweater/baggy FF-Pantz combo, i suddenly have a range of flight that reflects how i fly my body!
