    Lazy Bag

Design has been around for about 5 years, i remember thinking about trying to get one when i wanted to buy an Odyssey in 2003. There have been previous discussions on the subject under the term Berger bag or stowless d-bag. There is a belgian rigger who makes them, i looked into it a nwhile ago (january) as some friends of mine from Spa were jumping them at the Castellon new years boogie, but I dont have the link anymore as I'm happy with my tube stows. Looked easy enough to handle for tight packjobs though. Woudl be interesting to get some stats on it, how many jumps were put on them, how they are affected by wear (stiffeners esp.) etc., any problems yaddayadda. Anyone care to share their experiences? Should have asked Derek last week... Dayum! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

  3. Ok, if you really cant wait, here are some Framegrabs from my video. First one shows me on final to the landing area with the airstrip on the left past the street (landings are usually crosswind), second and third show Omar and Steve having some fun while I try to join The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 5. Pics will follow. Wonderfull location, hills up to 600m (guessed) surrounding the beautiful bay city. Weather is still mixed, as there are clouds hard north of the city, but we did 3 Loads (Mi-8) today of which I made it on two. For lack of a better word it's simply AWESOME, and I cant wait until the airplanes arrive. For now, we have to do a Passport check prior to boarding (!) and we are screened using a metal detector that goes off in all the right places. And yes, I'm serious! 6. Ok guys, we've arrived in Nha Trang and the weather is getting better - the 22nd/23rd february were cool and rainy, something totally off for the area and season here. On average there's only one day of rain in february and march respectively. We had two now so we should be good for the rest of the time. Anyway, allowed for some relaxed time to tune in and now the sun starts burning the clouds away. Temperatures are perfect around 25-28 deg centigrade. The hotel is very nice and the five stars are pretty much there, definitely an international four-star level if not the full five. (My experience with five-star hotels is somewhat limited...) The vibe is good and we're all eager for our first jumps. I had a helicopter ride along the coast from Saigon to Nha Trang as there was some mixup with my travel dates, but it all worked out nicely. The flight was very interesting, nice to see the coastline all the way. There's tons of nice resorts, surprise surprise... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 8. Yes you will. The increase in Wingloading will create a higher foward speed and the shorter lines on the smaller canopy will give more agility and more immediate reaction to steering input. There is an excellent document on Wingloading and its Effects (pdf link) by John LeBlanc, founder of PD. Reading highly recommended. Having your canopy choice checked out by someone with significantly more experience that knows you is always a good idea. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 11. Ok, here's what I mean to see in the Video: The rig has a BOC and a tube for a cable/springloaded PC release. The bridle got hooked up on the mouth of the tubing (visible as the small white dot above the orange PC handle). The instructor pulls the bridle down and out so it can pull the pin, which it does but the PC seems to have trouble lifting the POD from the main container. From looking at the video, it seems to me like a kill-line PC is used (look at 0:56) which may not have been fully cocked (at least the POD-bridle gap looks too long for my eyes). 12. Because it is no Rig without an AAD. It is a rig with an AAD in non-funtioning condition. Non-functioning component = bad juju. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

    Wings W7

Just email Sunrise Rigging. I sent them the packing volume of my canopies and they sized the containers accordingly. It's a W8-2 EXT as well, dor a 120 main. My main packs a bit large as I just found out comparing it to a possible successor of almost same square footage. Current canopy is a Paratec Faqtor 120 packing about 320 cui, and I'm looking at the XFire2 119 packing about 275 cui. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 14. Just did research into that myself. I'll carry my Rig as carry-on baggage, my laptop (counts kinda as a mens' purse equivalent) as personal belonging and my camera equipment as just that. Info here: Parachutes http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1147.shtm Camera equipment http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1248.shtm No link for laptop bags as personal belongings... But if you tell them that you are not intending to check a 4K parachute, a 3K laptop and a 5K camera bag for an insurance in case of loss of 500-600 USD/kg, they usually let you go. Still, this is not set in stone, it MAY vary from airline to airline. Bad enough they allow 15 kg free extra for scuba gear as sports baggage, but not for sports parachutes... 15. Yup, it's the flash. A quick and dirty way to remedy would be to put a thin sheet of white paper directly in front of the flash bulb to spread the light. Better use an external flash and bounce it somewhere. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Student gear 240 0-20 Student gear 210 20-30 Rental gear PD 190 30-50 Borrowed gear Sabre 170 50-60 First owned gear Spark 150 60-250ish Demo gear Faqtor 135 250-350 Own new Faqtor 120 350(WL:1.55)-now (750ish, WL 1.67) yea, i gained some weight on the way... At about 650 jumps i demoed a R.A.G.E. for 3-5 jumps, R.A.G.E. 107 @ 1.87 but gave it back, i'm not playing that league yet. Gave me so much new appreciation for my Faqtor, a canopy that i've jumped for about 400 jumps now and that i know and can still push it's limits. And that just rocks. 17. When you bought it, it was not airworthy because the 4 year check was 3 years overdue. Now it's time for an 8 year check. The checks are not extending the validity of the previous checks, they are checkpoints in overall service life. If the service life is 3 years in a closet that is bad luck... You could have found that out _before_ buying a 7 year old Cypres. If you paid as much for it that the 4- and 8-year inspections can't be paid for and still give you a good price (there actually is a "remaining value calculator on SSKs website i think), it was the Seller who ripped you off, or you paying too high a price, not Airtech/SSK giving you bad service. What do you expect, that you get a 4 year maintainance cycle extension after the first scheduled maintainance being late 3 years? That would extend your units overall service life to 15 years, which is invalid according to Airtechs maximum device life of 12 years. Even if they did that, you'd HAVE to have the second maintainance check anyway before the 12 year lifetime end (after 7+4=11 years). So if you pay next year or in four years, one year before the device runs out of "life", does that matter? Smart thing to do would have been to call SSK beforehand, and ask if they could do the 4 and 8 year maintainance and battery check all in one go, but that would've meant to wait jumping it another year. Not trying to sound smart, but either way, a bit of homework about the gear might have prevented this. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 18. Friend of mine ran into the same problem inverted (capture ntsc from a pal cam), and his machine cant seem to capture the ntsc even though the camera plays it back. My thought his problem originates from his NLE solution (Magix), so I recommended WinDV to him to see whether he can capture it that way. Haven't heard back yet though. 19. Well, stating the organizers to be the same persons is a bit of a bold statement based on the same bank account number IMO. Banking in Vietnam as a foreign company is complicated to say the least. The staff (as I said at least the rigger) will most likely be from the Pattaya DZ, as it is a real challenge to put up a boogie this size (200+) without staff from the area. I know that some local (out of vietnam, not necessarily vietnamese) people are involved too, so I dont share your pessimism which i can understand based on your experience. I'll definitely report back on my experience, which so far has been a pretty good and straight info flow. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 20. Hi folks, just checked back to this (too long gone I know), so I'll try and answer some of these questions. Just to clarify first, though, I'm NOT part of the organization team, I've just been to VN a number of times and do have some contacts there and been in mail contact with one of the organizers about me having the same questions. So, here we go: 1. Flying is out of the military airbase Nha Trang, under authority of the military. 2. Because of that, only package deals are available right now. I was peeking at the cheaper hotels in Nha Trang near the airbase, but no go. Part of the deal is that people can access the airbase as a group so access to the airbase is under control. 3. It's not the same operator/organizer as in Pattaya, even though he's (or at least the rigger) around the organizing team (my understanding !). 4. Accomodation is in the Sofitel VinPearl resort, a new (2006/7 finished) 5 star resort (not the Evason Hideaway...), so the package is a good deal counting air transfer, accomodation and tickets. I dont have a stake in this, but i did my somewhat educated math (based no my vn girlfriends input). 5. Vietnam didn't have an air sports association until late 2006, I happen to know the guy who was the driving force behind it.
  21. I know the guy in charge behind all the air sports endeavours in VN and it's (there's one coming up in october) a static line course from a Mi-8. It is mostly to see what the public interest is. But there is a Boogie in Nha Trang coming up late February info-link. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 22. Hey folks, just to let u know: What: First ever Vietnam Boogie When: Feb 22nd - March 6th Where: Nha Trang More info: www.skydivevietnam.com I've been in Nha Trang before and it is a perfect location for skydiving. The old US airbase is not being used as the transport hub anymore and the new commercial airport is about 30 km south of the city. Nha Trang has a lot to offer, like hot mineral sources and nice white sandy beaches. Snorkeling is also possible. I'm planning to go there. It'll rock! And the food is awesome. The event will be a groundbreaker, if the officials see this may give Vietnam good tourism exposure, it will allow for repetition. Until a year ago there was no private (sports) aviation in Vietnam, now there is a paragliding and a skydiving association. Let's help them get started!

  25. This IS normal. I jump the same setup on my Wings. The inch of length between the Pud and the PC apex is there because the handle is to be stuck under the right main flap fold, not in the BOC, and if the packjob is not neat or symmetrical, there might be an inch between the opening of the BOC and the flap that should not expose any PC fabric > an inch connector. For pictures see the Wings Product Site, about half-way down the linked page are three pictures, the middle one shows the referred system. Get the owners manual here. I've put about 450 jumps on mine and never had a floating pud. Personally I prefer the tidyness of a PUD and the deployment sequence of a throwout - so I would take this setup again anytime. Came to love it. No Pullout over Throwout discussion please. HTH The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ...
