  1. You ask the weekly question! This article will help, as will a search for "first rig". I personally love my Wings. I don't like the main flap design of Javelins/Odysseys, i think it's outdated and tends to open (i know it doesn't open every jump every rig, but i've seen it happen on many). My 2 cents... 2. There are two DZs close to Vancouver, Pitt Meadows and Abbotsford. Pitt has a King Air and Cessnas, Abbotsford has a Porter and Cessnas. I usually jump at Pitt, as it is easier to reach by public transport (i don't have a car). Quite some Freefliers at the place, very friendly atmosphere plus amazing scenery. Mountains, the sea and the city... unbeatable. Abbotsford is a nice place too, had a good time there during the Otter Boogie this weekend. Btw it would be nice if you added a little personal info about you, so one doesn't feel like talking to a "nobody".
  3. I was having that problem once with some Panasonic Cam at a short film project. IIRC the camera still used it's full resolution but changed the pixel aspect ratio. So there was no letterboxing on the recording itself. Or did i simply read you wrong and you meant that the camera ads the WSS? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 4. Is anyone ever going to see a new infinity here or will you guys just keep this on top of gear and rigging by posting one-liners? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  5. Thanks for the info... How much for a cab? Had my share of Greyhound experiences... All of the kind "I'll never use that f*cking service again!" Flights going to Ontario aren't that hard to find, as most cheap flights from Vancouver are going through Phoenix anyway. Guess i'll fly to Ontario. 6. You will never lose the jump numbers. You've jumped, they are logged. Try contacting these Dropzones for info on jumping in Turkey, they will most probably be able to help. 7. Well, i'm not a rigger, but i think i'm pretty good at packing by now... Usually it takes me like 10-20 packjobs to get back into all the little moves that make handling the slippy ZP easier after a long lay-off (three month no-jump winters kinda things). Yesterday i had no prob in doing a backup-backup load (jumped 1st, 2nd went up, 3rd i was on again) with my PJ, never had a mal yet (knock on my wooden head).
  8. Alright chumps, let's do a team then! Even though mine isn't black but navy, check out my matching suit! (Freakin' Suit, Navy with red/yellow TD...) 10. Well, as it looks of now my two roomies have quit so i will have to move by the end of august... Not sure whether i will be coming down straight after school, gotta find a new space first... So i might get down there a later as planned...
  11. On my balloon jump i hit the peas. The balloon started away from the DZ so that we would land there, was only like a 6km ride with the balloon crew. We then hopped on our cars and helped recover the balloon. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 12. I don't know too much about 16:9 format specs, but it looks like the image resolution doesn't match the pixel aspect ratio. The horizontal resolution should be higher or the vertical resolution lower, respectively... The horizontal resolution for a vertical res of 486 would be 864, being 16:9. If the horizontal res stays put, you'll have to crop (or scale) the image top and bottom to 405 px. This would give you a letterboxed image on a 4:3 screen. 13. If these few seconds are enough to create a difference in altitude between jumper A and B, it has substantial bearing on the question at hand, as once the canopies are descending at the same rate again, the braked one is a little higher and thus will land a little later. Answers the question, but not the physics inquiry. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 14. Got one too a week back, refurbished kit w/ warranty for 750 US Sooo can't wait for jose to bring it to the boogie at Abbotsford next weekend! All i have to do is some fine memory card shoppin before that! Aw, it's like christmas!
  15. Well, i've ordered stuff from them, had to return it and get a right size (helmet), i got the right size (wrong sizing was my fault btw) three weeks after i sent mine back. So mine was delivered back, they sent the new one out and it cleared canadian customs all within three weeks. My Wings order through them involved some custom stuff, some "ah, i rethought that stuff" on my side and communication with them was quick and VERY customer friendly. You'd loose a really good gear buying option if you refrained from buying stuff there because your DVDs didn't get there in time due to some communications problem... 16. Depending on where you're staying, a short trip to Belgium will get you to Spa, my former home DZ with great international people, french, germans, dutch and even some brits. Highly recommendable. Also, Skydiver.de has a map of european DZs, which might compliment to those found here. HTH
  17. I think august 20th 'til 30th-something, no real need for getting back too soon, as i finish school here on august 20th and only have to get back if i become a technical assistant, depending on my schedule then. Maybe i'll party a few days and catch up on sleep, so i might only get down there between august 20th and 23rd, i'll see. Would be cool to meet you there!
  18. Seriously second that. I do have a Guner for no-cam jumps (awesome helmet), and have a Rawa for video jumps(dto.). I can recommend two helmets if you will be doing a number of jumps w/o video, as the empty video helmet with the mount still is a snag hazard. Both feature easily accessible audible pockets, so you can flick them around really quick. I'd recommend a second helmet and keeping the gunner for those no-cam jumps. 19. 4:20 pm? 4:20 pm i got on the West Coast Express from downtown Vancouver to Pitt Meadows... A nice two way sit and a hilarious 4way track dive later, here i am having my good ole time. 20. Alright... My buddy just quit on me for the last week of August, but do i think about not going to Perris and get some tunnel time? Hell, no. Haven't got a flight yet or anything, though, and some questions for my planning... Best to fly to LAX from Vancouver? How to get to the DZ? Enough people to do fun jumps with during the week? What's going on at the DZ (on a daily basis) after sunset? Does one need a car to get around or are there enough people hanging around to catch a ride (if you wanna watch a movie or the like...)? How about the bunkhouse, is it cramped (=full) or easy to walk in this time of year? (I know i could've mailed the DZ right away, but there's so many peeps from Perris round here and i'm asking other stuff already so what the heck...) Does it have lockers or just the usual closet/cupboard kind of furniture? I want to get down there to get some coaching... Any help/info on that is appreciated as well.
  21. How big are the measuring differences between the different methods? My Speed 135 is listed to pack smaller than the PDR 126, the question is, measuring the same way as PD would it be 126 or larger/smaller?(serious, non-rethoric question) Even if the Tempo 135 taken from the refferred example has "standardized" measurement of 150, and the Speed 190 of 170, it is still a bigger reserve fitting in the same container... I guess one can safely assume that no packvolume stated by any manufacturer can stand the precise test in any loft at any time. So imo it is still a valid claim for comparison. 23. The canopy in half brake will have a profile that creates more lift, decreasing it's descent rate and increasing drag. Due to the increased drag, it's foward rate will decrease, resulting in covering less ground in 0 wind conditions. The AoA will not necessarily change permanently, but it will change during the time that the suspended weight is moving as the canopy slows down. 25. I do that on all my EP drills, even though i have an unobstructed view. A hard opening and/or a spinning mal can distort the harness, so that your handles are displaced and you can't see them (because your head movement might be restricted or whatever).
