  1. Not just headdown. Even sit can become a problem. Did that on a Vector 2 with worn Velcro, should have known better (But it was that w/ my 120 or Student gear w/260 Mantas...). The loose toggle smacked my armpit like a whip, hurt like hell and gave a hand-sized bruise.... Luckily my Wings arrived the following weekend. 2. Pic 7 shows the linegroups neatly in the center of the packjob, all lines of a group stretched nicely. Note that the Packer holds the slider up to show this, so it's out of view. Pic 8 shows all the lines even closer (maybe tucked in a little) in the center of the Packjob with the slider centered (quartered/cloverleaved) between the linegroups. Keeping the linegroups in the center of the packjob is elemental to prevent lineover mals. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 3. What's so big about it? The Video resolution and quality will not necessarily increase (how many vertical lines does it take? i guess the usual 525...), and all that still image quality and resolution crap isn't worth a decent digital photo... If it was a 3 CCD cam in a Sony PC chassis, that would be something cool! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 4. Just asked that question at my DZ last weekend, and the photographer said RAW takes somewhat longer to be written to memory due to the file size, thus you end up getting a small advantage in image quality for a lot less pictures. He shoots all @ JPEG large on his 10 D and the images are awesome. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 5. okay, here's the deal: The Cams basically can do both. I have successfully recorded NTSC on my PAL DV cam in VTR mode (PC-5E) several times now. As the Cam can also play back NTSC, it shouldn't be a problem. The cameras can do both, they are just set to one standard of recording in cam mode by the manufacturer depending on the intended point of sale. PAL has a higher resolution than NTSC but a slightly slower framerate, so they both use the same amount of signal bandwidth. TVs are usually the cheapest links in the chain, so they usually only support one standard (unless you go somewhat highend). The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 6. Hey Kim, congrats for finishing school! (Fun time's over...) Can you reveal any info on that Deland misfire, if there is any? I would really enjoy seeing competition on the market. 8. I got my rig (Wings) last fall and have never had something more comfy. They cut their legstraps so that you are not placing the weight on the crotch but more like a slight sit (back of your legs/buttocks). They are veery comfy (i actually thought something was really wrong on my first jump on it because i didn't feel the legstraps squeezing) The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 10. No offense intended, but you seem to have forgotten a little of that training in the past two years, at least of the theory. (IMHO not necessarily surprising after such a blast of info in 5 month and then more or less dropping out for 24...) You state your weight to be 78 kg, with 10kg of equipment that is an exitweight of 88 kg or 194 lbs. That equals 1.29 lbs/sqft, which is your wingloading. (If the 78 kg is your exit weight, the WL is 1.15, so your profile isn't up to date either way... ) It does not seem to me to be a smart move to buy a 150 after the smallest canopy that brought you in was a 170. Usually a container fits at least one, often even two sizes smaller, so getting one that fits a 170 would not necessarily have been a bad choice or even a waste of 5 grand (the price of two Wings containers btw...) Put a couple of jumps on a 200ish to get back into the general feel, then check out the 170. When you can land that under bad circumstances (and checked off billvons downsizing list), check out that 150... Anyway, to answer your question to get out of the plane, do all your drills extensively to build muscle memory and self confidence to be able to handle any situation (Pull tests, emergency procedures). Visualize the jump (including takeoff and ride up), so there are (hopefully) no surprizing stress factors popping up. As this will most probably be a checkout-dive anyway, remember to get a gear check either way? On the ride up, close your eyes, focus on your breathing, keep it steady and breath deeply. Actively relax your muscles. When the door opens, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then jump. Once out, the problem will be solved. 11. Wanted an Odyssey, would have had to wait 18 weeks (finishing my summer on rental 170 instead of staying current on my 120, no way!)... Asked JP of Sq1 what else he would recommend, Mirage was too expensive(in my view not a good price/perfromance deal), so i did some research based on his recommendations then went for a Wings. Their (both JP+Sunrise Rigging) advice and customer service were excellent, the rig is a perfect fit and i am as happy as a (difficult, precise) customer can be with his first, all-new custom gear. So my votes on my Wings: made sense $$$ wise, i liked the look of it, the Colors!! (custom, with tie-dye etc... maybe shouldn't have chosen that vote as it wasn't a stock rig...) the extras it offered (the hip ring design) Customer support Delivery time The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 13. Well, i know there's an insurance in Germany that covers the whole thing (even lost canopy after cutaway), which costs like 90 Euros p.a.. I have no idea whatsoever whether they only offer it there or not, though. It's by a private insurance coop'ing with one of the big ones, and it's called "GFF card". First thing is to write down all the serial numbers (and correct color codes) and put them to your files (for that worst case...). The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 18. So if weed was legalized, they could pack for you again? Where's the difference in their ability/responsibility then? Sorry that doesn't make sense to me... And what if the rigger "didn't inhale"? (Who said that again? Must be short-term memory loss... Guess it was a president...) At least thanks to this thread i know my rigger doesn't smoke. 19. I think there is a small, (not sure now but i think) tandem only, operation at the airport from a 182... (tourist dumping, should be quite lucrative there...) I can't remember where i found info on it, but it didn't look any promising. Didn't say anything about fun jumpers. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 22. *BUMP!* Hey, good thread! Now reading all this and not having biffed in with my new H/C (close one on mud puddle on its first jump though), i wonder if that is a safe procedure for tie-dyed rigs as well? Is the tie-dye applied to the cordura durable or will it run? Any experiences? Now? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 23. I guess the higher the price, the more likely people will split it and share the file. If you make it cheaper, it might be they are willing to pay your effort and buy it all. Time/experience will tell. Prints on the spot are a great thing. A guy at my former home DZ used to print photoshopped PAL stills in pretty amazing print quality (4x5") for 10 Euros a piece with a material price (paper and ink[!]) of like 2 Euros. 24. Go to videohelp.com or doom9.org. All i know about video compression is from links\guides on these sites. If you want decent quicktimes, use sorenson 3 as compressor, then set the keyframes and datarate as high(keyframes)/low(datarate) as possible for your desired quality. QT sound compressors suck thought, they don't make a big difference (to my ears)... Big helper: Crop/half size video. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open.
