  1. Safe emergency exit altitude, determined usually by the PILOT, who tells the DZ Operator. Safe emergency exit altitude is usually about 1000 ft / 350 meters, below that you stay in the plane and hope you don't get wasted on impact (which the belt is there to prevent). That's for me solo jumper i guess. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  2. If I'm not completely wrong, Paratec even has a dependency in the US now. It's not linked on their site however, but they sincerely answer you in english (they have very good customer service from my own experience) if you have any questions. Check their website for the mailaddress.
  3. Good to have a contact on jumping there now. How much are the tickets? What's standard drop altitude? Can't wait to get there. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  4. Hi everybody, i'm moving to Vancouver next week and just got me a new main, reserve and cypres 2 here in germany. I also ordered a Javelin Odyssey. Now i'd like to know if there are any special things i need to regard when i'll have this all put together in Canada (or the US). Any Info? Does anyone know if i have to pay customs fees on the stuff? TIA, Blues, Chris The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 5. You really shouldn't think of buying it now. Save the money for tickets and once you're through AFF, if your instructors say its ok, do a few testjumps on the rig and then decide what to do. If it's a friend, he'll let you do that and accept you doing it this way, because that's a safe one. Oh, not to forget! HAVE FUN ON YOUR AFF!
  6. The only way to get the right answer for your question ist jumping a demo of the exact canopy you think about buying. You don't eat shit because billions of flies can't be wrong, do you? I got me a new canopy recently (Paratec Faqtor, rocks like hell!), but coming off a Spark (Sabre-class) i've been testing a Sabre2, Spectre, Faqtor and some other canopies. That's the only way you can be sure the canopy you pay for makes you feel (and fly) safe. So if you feel better with a canopy someone else says is sluggish and boring, don't care what he says. Choosing the right canopy is a very personal decision. So try to get some Demo or go to a DZ that has one for a weekend. Just my 2c. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 8. Hey people, thanks for the warm welcome! Good to know where the turbos are! of course i know Bad Homburg, a good friend of mine (operstes www.freefly.de) lives there.
  9. BIG HELLO FIRST!!! Hi People, almost missed to introduce myself! Ooops! Have about 320 jumps on my back & will be moving from Germany to Vancouver in two weeks. Any skydivers from the area speak up, i need a ride to the DZ! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... VIGIL

Got my Cypres 2 last weekend; The Vigil is grounded in all of France where that malfunction happened. It deployed the reserve at about 500m (1650 ft) and the unit was a "beta test" product, having SUCCESSFULLY PASSED all laboratory and dummy drop tests. Read the info at para-mag.com (couldn't find the article anymore, it's french+i got the info by mail early july). This should definitely not happen! Thought about buying it, too, but rethought. Didn't want to be a testpilot. Lucky me! Cypres 2 doesn't need battery change and has a 4 yr maintenance cycle with 6 month +/-. I guess the waterresistant and 10 sec countdown feats are nice, but mostly cosmetics(unless you're pond swooping of course). The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 11. IMHO because its not only about a stable X and proper track, but also being able to do a barrel roll before going X and deploying as well as doing quick turns on your belly (ok, both things are something anybody should know to do from AFF, but...) Only last weekend i heard of 2 flyers who collided during break-off tracking. No serious injuries except one arm broken... Also the awareness "where everybody is" on an n-way takes a while and may be safer to evolve on a flat n-way (or "pizza") just my 2 cents... 12. 315 jumps, about 220 freefly, solid sit, sit anyway you want, HD not stable (just started). The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  13. It's definitely a good idea to gain belly skills before starting freeflying. I've jumped with people who could sit, but upon separation just tracked on the spot. Such people in an 8 way and you're in trouble. Bellyflying is the BASICS. But i think @ 130 jumps you should be quite a safe tracker and good enough belly flyer, you don't have to be Arizona airspeed level to start freeflying Started with "sitting around"at about 90-100 jumps myself. Cheers!
  14. This is the dropzone to go. It has people from Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands jumping there, its a great international flair there and everybody gets along very well. They have their own grand caravan and can organize a Skyvan to be there the next day should the capacity be needed. Online logbook and ticket handling are _terrific_. Shop and Rigger are highly professional. Very good freefly school just opened there recently, check them out at http://www.bffs.info I like it there!
  15. Made my AFF and license there. Very nice people, good atmosphere and the possibility to do jumps with very experienced skydivers at no additional charge. I learned really much there, especially after getting my license. Their Super Skylane 206 takes you to 3500m in about 2 minutes more than a porter, but its only got 3-4 seats and 3500 is usual drop altitude. If you want a nice relaxing weekend with a few relaxing jumps, this is a good place to check out.
