  1. It is not likely, because the higher wingloading on the larger canopy increases its speed, but does not shorten the lever of the longer lines, which are responsible for the smaller canopies' agility. If i got this wrong, please correct me. There's a good article on that matter by John LeBlanc at the PD Website The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. Well, given the cutter price of about 120 USD (i think), its not just fire-and-forget (fire and buy all-new) device, should you ever need it. Hope you never will! 3. Cypres, see this current thread http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=650224;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed; To see if a 135 will be right for you, ask the Instructors at your DZ. (Long nothing) BUT if you are jumping a 160 now, don't go to a 135 straight, take a 150 inbetween. I think 150 might be better for you for now, and 150s are fun to fly and always widely available at a reasonable price. I made about 250 jumps on my 150 and it was good doing that. 7. I've also jumped a number of Sabre 1s on my way to my current one (NOT a Sabre in any respect). Never had a problem with their opening, but you might wanna checkout this article from the manufacturer: http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/hrdopn.pdf You should find the manual there, too, giving you the (theoretical) knowledge how to bag it. THIS DOES NOT REPLACE PROPER INSTRUCTION, THOUGH! So step up to an instructor at your home DZand learn how to pack it. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 8. I've read somwhere that it takes the protrack about 5-7 sec before accurately logging the dive. This could be because the pressure change is not strong enough before that time. Maybe a standard "acceleration time" is later added to te exact data resulting in strange freefall times? Whatever, I've compared Data with others after n-ways and it pretty well matched up.
  9. Well, if you want the rig in spring, you should order now if you want one from Sunpath... IMHO it doesn't make sense to get a new rig right after AFF bcause you're very likely to sell it after like 50-100 jumps. I always propose people to wait like about 30-50 jumps, then they have a better understanding what they expect from their equipment. That said, I just ordered a Wings, jump a Paratec Faqtor 120 and have a Paratec Speed 2000 135 Reserve+Cypres2. All i can say about my canopies is: Paraatec RULES! Oh, and yes, ask your intructor. 10. The seven Ps: Proper planning + preparation prevent piss poor performance! A riser connects to the lines on one end (upper) and the release ring of the three-ring release. The slider is the piece of webbing which comes down from the canopy to the risers, keeping the lines apart and preventing the air coming from below from filling the canopy too fast, resulting in a hard opening. BOC=B ottom O f C ontainer, pouch where the pilot chute is stowed. Other than ROL, short for Right on Leg. D-Bag= Deployment bag, you guessed right. When's your first jump? 11. Well, go to your rigger, have the canopies installed and pack the rig. Then you'll see if it's good or not, i guess. At least you will then have facts at hand when calling Sunpath. If it doesn't work and you specified the container size, they will have to fix it. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 13. I appreciate this post very much, as it addresses an issue i am interested in (and concerned about). I'd consider myself as an "advanced" jumper and am aproaching swooping. Weezer definitely rules, as does GARBAGE! Chemical brothers are in the league, too. And the all time highs: The B EAST EEE BOOOYS! 18. I once jumped with my usual street jeans on and had my purse in the back pocket. I only noticed it after the jump, it was still there, curiously, as the pocket was way loose. Lucky me; ID and credit cards... A friend of mine lost his keys (which where hanging from his neck) at about 6-7 k. You're really boned if that happens... 21. Yeah well, i mailed with SunPath a couple of times and the answers usually came within a day or two. So from my experience, they usually reply pretty fast. Just recently it took a little longer, thought about getting a Wings or a Mirage. Yesterday Sunpath mailed me to have them called by my dealer to see what they could do for me because i don't have a container now and don't wanna wait. Didn't get any more info yet, though, will keep you posted. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 23. (Generally) A reason for that can be assymetrical sewing. I can recommend the Paratec Speed 2000. New material, packing small (my 135 packs smaller than PD-126) and holds higher loadings/depl.speeds. Reasonably priced, too. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 24. Hi People. I'm posting a kind of theoretical question right now because i currently can't jump my own canopy (dont have a container atm as some might know...). Well, i downsized to my 120 just like 30 jumps ago. It is great to handle, very agile and literally goes around the corner out of a dive to horizontal if you give a little toggle input. I'm doing quite conservative approaches, sometimes adding a 90 degree front riser turn (not full speed), to gain a little speed for a swoop. Yet on one of my last jumps (before selling the old rig), i missjudged my height and had to hit the brakes, nothing happened, i ran 3 meters and looked scary (and yes, i looked scared too). The next jump i returned to a standard toggle-based approach for comparison and relaxation. It was a good thing to do, showing me the differences (between a toggle and a "soft" front riser turn) a bit better than it did at higher altitude, where i used to test the different behaviours of the canopy. A few experienced canopy riders were around there, they gave me quite good tips and instructions and were pissed at me because i screwed that time (and they were right). Now my question is, how -except through patience and cautiousness- can one improve their ability to lower the risk of misjudging his approach for a swoop? A Canopy Control Course is something i've been looking for, but they are rarely anounced widely and i don't know where and when people who are capable are around. I've read the article on downsizing and low turns and it all makes perfect sense and i've been training these prior to any front riser touch. Data: Canopy is loaded at about 1.5, which is in the middle of the manufacturers recommended weight range for that size. Shape is semi-elliptical, two front cells and three rear cells tapered.
