  1. Okay, i got the table and the chairs, and now i've gotten some nice Vancouver/Pitt Meadows air, too! Been there today, weren't many people there, but it was nice, a warm welcome and a _beutiful_ jump. And that 170 i rented wasn't so bad either... I hope i'll get a bed tomorrow, finally.... 3. I can recommend the Skydivecenter Spa from personal experience. www.skydivecenterspa.com for info. Don't know what gear they rent, though, was always jumping my own. Tandem was 180 Euros, i think. Solo Ticket is 22 Euros. Have fun The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 4. Funny, my indian roommate just told me a few days ago that there's a saying in india "life begins at 40". The skydiving world is pretty small, but we have the biggest playground! Enjoy, be free! 5. If you don't feel right, don't do it. I once did a hungover jump, i kept asking me "should i do this?" until it was my turn and once i was 20 meters away from the plane (on a solo) i thought "i shouldn't have done this!". Nothing happened, i landed alright, but felt like shit. Nobody talked me into the lift, nobody was to impress. I'm lucky nothing went wrong, and ever since, if i don' feel like jumping, even if it's the perfect day, i don't do it. Skydiving is your thing and yours alone. It's fun with others, its fun without. "They" do not decide, you do. You did the right thing. No shame in riding down at all. Rather than that, you should earn respect for that decision. 6. You're welcome. IMHO your answers are pretty theoretical, though. Simply imagine you don't even have time to think of all that because you're simply fu+=ing LOW. Actually you just hit the ground, that's how fast it might be. Landing out along a treeline watching your clothes won't help you staying outta that turbulence. If you think you'd like a cutaway just for the experience; why would you ever want to go with anything else than a perfectly working main? There are enough things that can malfunction upon cutaway, so i wouldn't want to cutaway if i don't have to. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 7. Think that should be US $. If you're in the UK, get a Tear Drop, they're really good. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  8. IMHO, 20 jumps is an early time to buy your own gear anyway. Try out some different canopies, and i would, just as all others did, recommend you not to go down to a 135 yet. Consider that you have good conditions when landing and you don't flare right on it yet. You stated that you were jumping 190 and 160 before, did you try a 150 at all? I've jumped a 150 for my first 250 jumps, and only after like a 100 jumps or so i felt like being able to handle it in pretty much any condition. The 113 Reserve proposal was a joke, a pretty bitter one, though. To finally answer the Reserve question, i can recommend Paratec Speed 2000 reserves, they pack up really tiny (a 135 packs like the PD 126, so you should maybe stick to the 150) and are well made, have one myself. I liked a bigger reserve than my main, i dont wanna be doing a performance landing after a cutaway. My 2 ... where's that "cents" key??? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 9. Just asked myself that same question. Jumping on rental gear for that waiting time can afford the higher price and faster delivery of a Mirage. STILL from what i got answers on the "recommendations for a freefly container" thread (dont have the link right here, should be liek one page down), is that they recommend a Wings. The Wings has cut-in laterals as an option too now, and i'll be getting one. Delivery time w/ rush order is 3weeks production plus custom shipping time. Rig will be up $100 by september 1st. Mirage delivery is 4 weeks, w/ tie-dye 6 weeks. These times are company info i got via email early this week cause i asked. I'm not completely there yet, but i guess i'll get a Wings, its 500$ less than the Mirage with all the same options and rush order. Btw, don't get in the waz of my rush order! so this post gets me kinda closer? saw an enthusiast with only twenty post or so, hows that possible? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  11. Well, i you know where the middle of your canopy is, it's the length of the lines, not the color of the cells that'll help keeping the line rows apart. 12. Well, if you had had to pull it out quickly, maybe the loop would have tightened and make it harder to pull out. Definitely a good thing you a) did the check before the jump and b) had that fixed. If a normal in-order rig can generate a malfunction, any differing scenario will be more likely to. So, basically you cut away some of your cutaway? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 13. I second that rental path. Put the money into tickets first, that'll earn you more. You'll need to do quite some careful jumps on smaller canopies if you want to downsize, because even after 50 jumps you do not KNOW all of what the smaller canopy has in stock for you. If somebody tells you something is right for you and you dont feel comfy with that, let it be. I jumped a 120 for the first time early this year and it didn't feel like being able to handle it in a stress situation then (i did like 50 jumps on the 135 before that). 45 jumps or more on the 135 later, i wanted to try the 120 again and then it was different, i liked it alot. Still, now with about 40 jumps on the 120, i'm being very catious, because it is still damn fast, but i can control it in my limits. IMHO there's one major rule on your own gear: It must be the right one for you, nobody else, and you must be able to handle it. 14. Now, if i'm not cmpletely mistaken, the descent rate on a F111 (i'm used to calling low-P like that) is a bit higher if the Angle of Attack is the same. Basically, a common statement to be heard in many places is: "a 170 of ZeroP is about the same as a 190 of F111". That statement is not right. It may be the same in terms of descent rate, but it will differ significantly in handling and speed. I recommend that you demo some different canopies of the different materials and then decide what you like best. Because it's only you under your canopy, noone else. It's you who must feel good with it.
  15. Well, being a low-number jumper myself, i can't really talk into that (and don't want to). BUT I've seen this innovative new R.A.G.E. design (search the forum with the name including the dots, i'm too lazy to do that now...), which keeps the nose completely closed and has the intakes on the bottom side of the canopy. It's actually not a nose but a closed leading edge. Or did i get something wrong and post completely off-topic? Oh my... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 16. Hmm, taking a second look at that wings, it looks really nice. Cut-in laterals are offered, tie-dye and rush order for 4 weeks stays under 1800 $ US... Thats quite a deal. I guess i'll mail them for specific info. So far, thanks to everyone in helping me "doing my homework"!
  17. Even your rig? Still i think she's hot, too
  18. The Speed uses a new and improved material, beeing sold exclusively to Paratec for about the next three(?) years. It packs smaller, even if its more sqft. I've seen the factory (for the Reserves) and i own a Speed 2000 135sqft now. I personally think they're the best ones out there. I personally know some people working for Paratec and can tell that the numbers they state are the safe ones, they test their stuff way beyond that. I've spoken to the test jumpers and once you have talked to someone who did 20+ jumps on the Speed for testing beyond specs and then compare that to threads about other reserves stalling inside the specs, you know you want a Speed. I didn't know much about Paratec until i got to know them and i can tell you they are serious about what they do. The Speed is a very good Reserve. Also check out their new Faqtor canopy, i got me a custom 120 which was delivered within 4 weeks(!). And it ROCKS!
Seltsames Statement. to Jimbo: Paratecs' NEXT Container is an excellent build, but they don't yet offer cut-in laterals. Also, i have been jumping one for most of this year, i didn't find it as comfortable as the odyssey, but that's an individual thing, others liked the fit of the Next better. General: If there's a rig with velcro on it somewhere(except for cutaway+reserve handle), i will not look at it twice. PODs with a center opening can stay away too, had that on a student rig and it never made any sense to me, just made packing more difficult. Any comments about the Mirage (except for the high pricing, i know that already...)? Well, maybe i can jump the Infinity once or twice once i make my way to Pitt Meadows. Didn't work out today because i'm outta money and have no clue of the public transit in Vancouver. I'll give you guys a call so maybe next weekend someone could pick me up to get there. Or if i survive the party tonight, i'll try getting there tomorrow, we'll see. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 20. If you're flying a camera, i strongly suggest the Rawa. Without cam, try 'em if possible, then decide. I tried the Bonehead and liked it. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
  21. The Infinity seems to be a quality rig, BUT my reasoning against me buying one is that i'll probably not be in Canada or the US for longer than a year and then return to Germany. Thus i'd stick to one of the major brands for ease of part replacements. It's just more likely to get a reserve freebag replaced if its a major "in-stock" brand. Plus, i've not had the comfort of the cut-in laterals on other rigs than the Odyssey and the G4... Damn, i hate argueing into the expensive stuff... 23. Hi all, I'm looking for a new container, actually almost placed the order for an Odyssey, but as it's on like 20+ weeks production time, that's too long for me. If I'd have to jump on rental gear til xmas, i could just as well order a full-option Mirage G4 and put the money in that. I had thought of a Superfly Tear Drop, but i'd have to get that back in Europe or else pay customs to Canada. I'd not go for the Voodoo because of the long riser covers, i heard from a friend jumping one that they're pretty unnerving. What do you people think? It's hard to decide what to do.. Help!?! 24. Ok, once i got a bed, a table and some chairs, i will leave these immediately. Wonder if i could crank my 120 into that 170 container?? No? Maybe if i tie it up a bit?
