  1. Only 62 since the end of AFF in april. But a big year none the less. Had my first cutaway, bought my first rig and made a few skydiving trips around my beautiful country. Planning on going huge this year tho, that includes a six month trip to the USA to jump my ass off. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  2. With the South African Rand/US Dollar exchange rate sitting at like Six to One, it can get seriously pricey when ordering gear from here. So to save some cash i had a look at some of the freefly suits floating around my DZ and spoke to the guys who know more than me and asked what i should be looking for in a suit. Then, armed with this info i did some investigating into fabrics and found one that wasn't likely to tear if i shmeared in on landing. Then i came up with a groovy design, approached a fashion designer friend of mine, had her knock up a pattern that was baggy in all the right places and viola, super stylee free fly suit for half the price. Hope this helps
  3. pm'd you. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  4. Just watched it, sick clips!!! Even had a couple non-skydivers from around the office come in and mutter some "wows" Ah man i can't wait to get over to the US next year! nice one again peace pj Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  5. Nice pic dude! I've been spinning for about three years now, chains mostly but some staff too. Some of the guys that spin with us have a mean routine worked out with burning Kung Fu swords, man the crowd loves that!!! Got some pics at home, will grab 'em tonight, scan and post tomorrow. peace PJ Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  6. Cypress Hill - 800 people, secret venue, absolutely wild!! Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  7. I love music, so I have tried to find some decent rap music cause I would hate to write off a complete genre. Public enemy and some of the "rappy" stuff from RATM has a decent message to it, but for the most part, I'm still looking. ---------------------------------------------------------- Dude, do yourself a favour and check out stuff from Blackalicious and Jurassic 5 - long live positive hip hop Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  8. I think that would be Cutaway. Otherwise laugh off the shmaltzy hollywood stuff and get him something like Crosswind, it's without a doubt one of the most inspiring vids of all time! Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  9. Thanks!! Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  10. I think all DZ's in South Africa reward jumpers with a R100 recruitment fee for tandems and first time jumpers. At our current exchange rate that's about $15 Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  11. That has to be one of the sickest things i have ever seen!!! Niiiiiiiiice... I always feel like something of an outsider posting in and even reading this forum as i don't BASE jump yet. I do however have the utmost respect for the sport and the people who do it. i'm trying to do as much research possible in the time that leads up to my first jump... I hope you don't take offence to me hijacking your post slightly but would you mind giving some insight on the McConkey? How easy is it to do really? Is it as hard core as it looks? And what was the scariest part for you personally? Is it more dangerous to do off of certian objects? What are the risks involved (possible malfunctions) and what contributes to them? (body position?) I've seen it on a couple vids and I've been doing some talking to some members of my local BASE community and have got various opinions... Thanks and well done yet again! peej Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  12. there's a guy at my dz that jumps with about 6 of them.... both leg straps, chest strap, jumpsuit, etc etc. some people think it's excessive... i think it's smart. hey, why not? you could get in a situation, grab your hook knife and have it slip from your hands... then what? Ha ha ha. I heard a story once about a guy on one of our local DZ's who did the same. As he was climbing on the plane one day a student asked him why he carried six hook knives. His reply? "Because i don't have space for a seventh! Yes i have one, no i haven't needed it. Knock, knock, knock. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  13. Quote: my tip: eat a healthy breakfeast... not only will it give you energy for the day it can be TASTY too! -yoshi My two cents: dude! not to mention a packed lunch: two peanut butter and honey sandwiches, a bananna and an apple, that shit's like rocket fuel ps. ape-raper? ROFL!!!! Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

  15. Shoot! I had my Leatherman out and ready... Just kidding, thanks for the advice guys, will take it into account and chat to my CI this weekend and then try a few things. T, see you then
  16. Howsit!! T, i look forward to your advice on Saturday
  17. Hey guys, I've just started jumping my own gear, a Mirage G3 with a Hornet 170 in it. I've done about ten jumps in total on my canopy (it has a couple hundred on it - i bought it second hand). I've been taught to pro-pack and nine out of ten jumps have been my pack jobs. My question is how long do your hornets take to open on a standard pro-pack? I swear mine is taking like 700 to 800 feet. i'm slowly starting to get used to it but it freaked me out a little the first time - guess i was just used to student gear that tends to slam open. Any tips on making a hornet open a little faster -without slamming? many thanks PJ Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  18. Nice idea for a post Dave! As someone recently off student status the forums serve as a valuable source of information (after talking to my CI of course ) and being exposed to them keeps me motivated to keep learning on every jump. As far as my progression goes: signed on in May 2003, since then i've finished AFF, got my A, started freeflying, had my first cutaway and bought my first rig
  19. Gonna have to go with Taya on that one, every one i've spoken to reckons they're bullet proof, hence the reason i bought one...Friday is the first time i jump it!!! Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  20. I get checked 100 % of the time before getting in the plane, either by my jump partner or a JM. And there's nothing wrong with glancing round on the way up - look for mis-routed chest straps, etc, we spotted a SL progression student with a helmet on backwards once peace Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  21. You've been given some really good advice here. Unortunately I'd have to agree about the "my house, my rules" thing. Respect that. Otherwise sit your mom down, explain your desire to skydive, the fact that the tandem/AFF instructors you'll be doing it with are highly trained and tell her about cypres technology - that made my mom feel a whole lot better. And even though i'm a self-supporter living 6 hrs away she still likes me to call when we get back from the DZ just to know everything's cool. good luck. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  22. I've seen someone tell you this in a post before, but dude, just relax Go with the one you're comortable with. I used to pull, control check, stuff the cord and head for the DZ. Safe skies PJ Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
