  1. Thanks for the info guys. I still have a way to go till i'm even allowed near a suit but it's something i definately want to get into. cheers Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  2. Damn. That was beautiful. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  3. Hey guys, I was wondering how many skydives one needs to fly a suit in the States? In South Africa i think you need 200 jumps and then you can jump a suit with a coach. Thanks for the info Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  4. Ok so what's the deal in the USA? When do you guys convert from ripcords to a throw-out pilot chute? In South Africa (Johanessburg Skydiving Club) we do AFF on Skymaster 235 ripcord rigs and then do a two jump throw-out conversion - we end up on a 200. I've heard a couple of scary (and at times down right unbelievable) stories about how in the USA they put AFF students on throw-out rigs from jump one. (I even heard AFF students jumps ellipticals but i can't believe a DZ would be that irresponsible.) Need some evidence to stop the rumours. Thanks ahead of time for the info. 5. Sunday 7th of Septmeber 2003. Jump #32. Landed a 210 Tempo reserve, grabbed another rental and hopped in the plane for #33. I have 33 in total. safe skies Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  6. Amen indeed. Had my first chop last wknd at my home DZ and i can honestly say i feel the same way. Not invincible but certainly not worried about having to do it again. Mine was jump number 32. Sweet sit fly, turned and tracked at 4500, dumped at 3000, looked up to do checks only to find the front left end cell closed and my left brake line stuck fast. Tried to sort it for a few secs before checking alti and hitting the emergency seq. Practice, practice, practice, makes perfect. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  7. I haven't been freeflying long and only did my first three way on Sunday (up until then then i'd only done 2ways) but every time i've turned and tracked at my first dytter beep (4500ft) and dumped at the second (3000ft). safe skies peej Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  8. Hey Sunny, A girl i fly with jumps a firefly suit, she's also on the small side and i know for a fact she's extremely happy with it. It fits perfectly and has to be one of the cutest suits i've seen. bfbo's peej Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

  11. I bombard him at least once a day with questions...i'm JSC's very own stalker! He he he. I'll make a point of questioning him on the wknd, thanks t Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  12. I completed AFF a few months back, have my A and my Cat II and am finding incredible joy in every aspect of the sport - free flying in particular - there's only one problem...I just can't focus on anything else! Apart from spending everything i have on gear and jumps, i catch myself driving around on weekdays with my head out of the window looking at the sky muttering "what a great day for jumping", i spend about 2 hrs a day online reading up on the sport and i'd rather get to bed early on a sat nite and be at the DZ for the first load on a sunday. Oh and i'm seriously entertaining thoughts of tossing the job and hitting the states to log jumps. I was wondering if anyone else has/had this problem when they started jumping? 13. I remember forward flipping out of the porter on one of my AFF levels (7 i think), getting stable and seeing my AFF instructor square in front of me smiling away. Then we fell through my first cloud - all i remember is being overwhelmed by the moment and screaming "oh wow!". The look on his face said it all - that was reward enough. i hope one day i can help give people the gift of the sky the same way he gave it to me. peace Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  14. Flip over on your back and try to guess when you're gonna hit. "hit the ground...now! Psyche" "hit the ground...now! Psyche" "hit the ground...now! Psyche" Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  15. This is something that my skydiving friends and i have been discussing for quite some time... Are there ANY decent hollywood made skydiving movies? Or in fact movies that feature cool skydiving scenes? The list we've seen so far is: Cutaway Drop Zone Point Break XXX - car/ basejump scene Tomb Raider 2 - Wicked wingsuit flying over hong kong Charlies Angels 2 - Demi Moore makes a completely implausible wing suit flight and lands it!!!! All completely trashy Safe skies Mo: "Is there an Al Kaholic here? Anyone named Al Kaholic?" Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  16. It's been interesting reading everyone's replies, i think my situation is most like FREEFLYDREW'S, up until Saturday i had 25 jumps and had just finished Cat II in RW. It's now Monday, i have 29 jumps and i've done my first 2 way sits and head downs with an experienced free fly friend of mine. I had the sit nice and stable by the fourth jump and she obviously did most of the work on the head down which we could only hold for a few seconds. But the others are right, jumping with a coach/experienced free flier is the way! If you want something bad enough, go get it Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  17. Hey Blueshrew, I'm a newbie but as far as i'm concerned the Z1 Evo rocks! I bought mine online cos we can't get 'em here yet (i live in South Africa ) and have really enjoyed jumping it. It fits well, is nice and quiet and looks good (and we all know how important that is ) plus the dytter pockets are in exactly the right place. blue ones Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
  18. I moved inland from a coastal city, i'd never felt more closed in. I sat around for months all bummed that i couldn't surf anymore...then a friend convinced me to do my AFF...in short it set me free again. Reading everyone's replies has made me feel incredibly good this Fri morning and it gives me a huge sense of pride to be a part of this incredible global community! keep charging all. 19. Hey guys and gals I'm a South African skydiver who's just come into the market for gear and even though i'm looking at buying it second hand that's certainly not what i wanted to hear about Chuteshop! After speaking to other jumpers on our DZ the Vortex II was a container that a lot of people seemed happy with, can you guys recommend some other makes of containers to look at? (Freefly safe of course). Thanks Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

    Helmets

Hey all, i'm a newbie skydiver from South Africa looking for your opinions on helmets. I've recently started looking to buy gear and after much searching (and deliberation) have come across the Z1 Evo Open face helmet from Parasport Italia, does anyone currently own one and could you offer any opinions? IE. is it comfortable? how is it for freeflying? is it worth the money? etc. Your advice would be much appreciated! Thanks Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
