National protests against Minneapolis police murderers?

The ALU has filed a lawsuit against the Minneapolis police for targeting journalists.

The claims in the story are very disturbing. For the cops to act that way is appalling.

When they started there weren’t ultra political, right? They were just an alternative channel.  Now they’re pretty much state news.

And keep in mind that this is the same FOX News that has recently turned against Trump.  When you are being called a liar and a fake by a news organization willing to put up that graphic, you know you are in trouble.

About a decade ago there was a big program in NYC cracking down on all small crimes. With the presumption that petty crime leads to felonies.

During the late 60's and early 70's there was a great amount of near hatred directed at the police by many young people. There were slogans tossed around that I would not repeat these days. I hope this kind of animosity never returns, but these are the kind of actions that could lead to it.

I’m too young for to have experienced that. The background to the song I posted was LA riots. It doesn’t look like the USA has really learnt or changed. From across the world it does feel like there is a tectonic shirt happening in USA now, although the general feeling is that the US is heading into a period of civil unrest, especially in November

This is why I find the 2nd amendment puzzling. IF people took up arms and the US military led by a tyrant was deployed and predators, Apache helicopters etc were deployed your little AR15 is going to get you smoked like you celebrate the killing of foreigners.

As I understand it - they wanted 300/Yr from homeowners to increase budget funding, and were shot down.

NY is planning the same according to De Blasio.

Should get interesting to see what happens to crime rates.

"As we know it".  

Perhaps the police should do what only police can do, and not be required to do what social workers, teachers, traffic wardens, accident investigators, etc. can do better.

In 2014, following the death of Eric Garner, New York police staged a "slowdown" to protest against the criticism. They thought that by doing policing to the bare minimum, the crime rate would be so high that people would beg them back to the streets.

So what happened?

How many major crimes do the cops find by being out on the street vs what is reported to them? The crimes referred to in the article are "murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny, and grand theft auto". Like, if my car was nicked or my house was burgled I wouldn't go looking for a cop on the street then give up on reporting the crime if I couldn't physically find one. There are these things called telephones nowadays.
