  1. Yes, there is no chance that situation had any confounding factors... "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  2. Well done slotperfect and good luck on the new position! "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  3. There are no guarantees. Depends not only on the size of canopy but also the type of main as well. Something more square is going to be better and more stable than something more elliptical or w/ a higher aspect ratio. But even then there are too many factors to give a simple yes or no question. 4. $2.5 million fine, banishment from anything to do with the team or league, possibly forced to sell his team. Yup, words have consequences. Not sure why people are so surprised about that concept. Plus, Mr. Sterling is free to start himself another basketball league. Plus his investment went from $12 million to $800 million or so. DOn't think he is losing money on this deal. Right, probably the banishment thing is a much larger punishment than the money. He isn't part of the club any more. So speech has both monetary and social consequences. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  5. In the state of CO, there is a law specifically written to protect the ski industry: http://www.denverpost.com/ci_22813161/colorado-ski-industry-enjoys-protection-from-law-waivers I'm not aware of any state enacting such a law for the skydiving industry. There is no such law in Virginia, but we have ski resorts that allow minors to ski there. Of course, not coincidentally Virginia is where the largest verdict ever upheld against the ski industry was awarded. I think you (a DZO) would be crazy to allow somebody under 18 to skydive in VA given our liability precedents but I do believe it should be up to the operator to make that assessment. 7. Yeah, I bought my car and rig at about the same time for the same price ~4 years ago. Rig is worth multiples of the car now (3x?). The ratio further skews when I have a couple of other rigs in the car that I am taking home to repack. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  8. Political correctness is the way to stop free speech The thought police are real here And if you keep this opinion you are next to loose On the other hand the NBA is a private company They can do what they want with this His only recourse would be to file suit This is not a free speech issue--the government is not going to arrest or fine Donald Sterling in any way. This is simply the product of Sterling entering into the marketplace of idea. This is how the founders intended it to work. Good ideas and speech are rewarded and bad ones are punished by the marketplace. Sterling expressed ideas that {most of us} society has determined are repugnant. He is paying the price for that. 9. I would not call either one. I flee bad situations as best I can. Taking a bad situation and interjecting a cop into it is just about guaranteed to make it worse. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  10. This is it. When a woman says she's not interested but he is a "nice guy" it means that a nice guy is all they are. Not exciting, not fascinating or intriguing or sexy or anything else. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

  14. I had textbooks that taught me this in school. It was not that long ago. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  15. That is because John knows how to spot. Sparky Don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  16. Super cute daughter. How old is she? Our son started packing when he was 11-ish and maybe just barely as tall as she is. Now he's full grown and jumping on his own. Thanks John! She will be 14 in a couple of weeks. She learned a little about packing last year but needed some help and a lot of close supervision. This year she took a video editing course in school this year so we might put her to work utilizing that this summer. She loves being at the dropzone w/ me. Everybody just treats her like one of the crowd. She tells everybody at her school that her dad is a skydiver and says "that's what they all think you do for a living. I don't tell them you have another job--social worker is boring" My just-turned-18 year old will be making a tandem soon. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  17. I did....my daughter buying beer for her first paid pack job last summer
  18. Not to be a downer, but don't trust too much in the safety of the sport. It is many times more dangerous than the drive to the airport and anybody who tells you differently is lying to you. It is not a death wish to jump but it does come with real risks. I jump because the benefits I get are worth the risk to me. Everybody has to make that choice for themselves, though. Yup, for some students I'm sure the license in a week program is great. The frequency of jumping and instruction will usually make the learning curve a bit easier. That sort of program was not a realistic alternative for me for life circumstances, but I don't think it would have worked well for me, as I believe I benefited from time to absorb and process in between jumps. 19. I've been following the story and it is not at all clear that they are calling it quits. http://mashable.com/2014/04/16/acdc-retirement-not-retiring/ "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  20. that's not really a good reason to downsize, +1. If that means you might make a decision to jump in more turbulent conditions then that is a huge negative. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  21. The largest NoStoBag that I have built to date is for a 210 sq ft canopy. Since I have not heard anything from the owner, I would guess that it works OK. JerryBaumchen Jerry built me a NoStow for my container. Due to measurement error on my part (he built it exactly to the measurements I sent) it is large enough that I could fit a 230 or 240 in it. Heck, since I am a packer I could probably cram a 260 in it. It still works OK for my 190 as well but is definitely on the loose side. I will say it is a fantastic product and Jerry's customer service is first rate. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  22. No, these two canopies (at those two different sizes and wingloadings) are very, very different. The basic physics of size determines that you will have less speed and more margin of error on the Navigator 240. A pilot 230 would be much closer to a navigator 240 but still not exactly the same. 23. No, you just go right on eating the shellfish. sin boldly, my friend "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  24. I'm guessing a bit but it sounds to me that it won't go into "in-flight" mode until 1000 ft. This is not activation altitude. Of course the whole thing sounds like it was written by a non-native English speaker and received no proofreading. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  25. Where the hell did you get that idea? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
