  1. There is a difference (important for the O.P.) between collapsing the slider and collapsing the slider and stowing it behind the head or removing it completely. The risers spreading and getting a more anhedral shape to your wing are a function of moving it from the risers either behind your head or off completely. I agree completely that you will see a difference in flying characteristics by putting it behind your head even on a large canopy. I think you will see very, very little difference in performance, to the point of not being noticeable, by collapsing the slider and leaving it at the slinks. If you want to collapse the slider and put it behind your head you will need to have a rig without slink hats (or slider bumpers for French links) "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  2. Thank God it is not a brown person receiving more than they are owed in food stamps. Welfare is only for the rich. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  3. Since nobody has mentioned any negatives, I will. Collapsing the slider is one more thing to do just after opening. So kind of a distraction from the important tasks of scanning for traffic and steering your canopy. Also, if you collapse the slider and then it uncollapses (because you didn't pull the kill line all the way to the stop), that can also be a distraction. Also, if you collapse it then it is important that you completely uncollapse it when packing, so add one more step to your packing routine. These are all pretty small items and most jumpers find the advantages of collapsing the slider outweigh these downsides but I just wanted to provide you some balance. 7. It bothers me that the FAA mandates AADs [for tandems] but has no standard for certifying the AAD. Leads to some inconsistency. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  8. I asked when I purchased. It covers damage or theft in the home. Limited coverage if it gets taken when it is out somewhere or in the car. No coverage if it gets lost in use. Your insurance may be different. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  9. Extra altitude! "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  10. So you don't think that the USPA should have an Airport Access Defense fund? What does that have to do with breaking the law? I will play this in their honor, though. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  11. I do not know how many dropzones require AADs but I believe every one in my state requires them. A few dropzones I have visited in nearby states also required them. I believe, but don't have personal knowledge, that they are required more in some regions than in others. Enforcement is totally up to the DZ. Yes, pretty much all USPA rules are on the "honor system" as USPA has no consistent enforcement ability an no authority except by not allowing DZ group membership. They already require AADs for tandem jumping. Such laws are of pretty dubious authority. The Feds pretty much have a legal monopoly on regulating jumping. 12. Skydive Carolina in Chester is an excellent choice. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  13. I am not a doctor and do not personally have seizures. My brother-in-law does have a seizure disorder but he has been able to be seizure free for years with just a small dose of Tegretol. A conservative recommendation would be to follow the rules for a driver's license after seizures. Commonly (and in my state) that is 6 months seizure free. 14. Nothing to do w/ rigging. Or logic (as riggerrob points out) It is simply market demand, IMHO. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  15. They do not have to be the same size, although most containers are sized for similar mains and reserve sizes. Some manufacturer's will make containers for smaller mains and larger reserves. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

  17. I don't think I follow your point. Honestly I don't see any difference between a $2 million campaign donation and a bribe. But that is true now. I was trying to throw a Godfather reference in there.

  20. There used to be a local jumper who worked for months at a time at McMurdo. From what he told me, the female population there was a very small minority, and at the beginning of each work term, the chicks would each pick a guy to couple up with, and the rest of the guys would go without. So, yes Antarctica is good, if you're a chick! She already lives in Alaska, so she has a lot of available men w/out much competition... "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

  23. That link is working, but that there is some extraordinary dense language. I'm not seeing anything about father's, only about "parties", e.g. A search for "father" in that document comes up empty. Am I missing something? Hey, thanks for a meaningful link! You're always good at that, and I appreciate those things. The original link is working on another computer and on my cell phone, so I am a bit flummoxed that you are having issues accessing it. It is a concise summary. The second (admittedly dense) document is an attempt to get ot the underlying law. Not sure that is the best link--if you use public assistance for the search term it is a little better but not as clear as I thought it was this morning. Lets try this one: http://www.herjustice.org/assets/pdfs/TheBasicsSeries_English/Child_Support_in_NYS.pdf which says you have to cooperate with efforts to establish support if you are getting public assistance. Here's another link: http://newyork.earnbenefits.org/page.php?pageID=675 Basically all states have these laws because the federal government requires such laws as a condition of states participating in these financial assistance programs. There are minor differences. The vast majority of assistance programs are federal/state partnerships. The only benefits I can think of that you would apply to a federal agency directly for are things like Social Security or Military benefits. I don't have direct experience on establishing paternity but since you are drawing off of somebody else's record I would logically think you have to in order to be eligible to collect tham. 24. That page is "violently rejected" when I try to access it (i.e., it keeps getting reset, and very quickly). Are you sure that's the correct page? Thanks! It is working for me, not sure why it isn't working on your end. The actual text of the law is here as well: http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/nycode/DOM/13/236 "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  25. Where can I find this info? My understanding for NYC and NYState is this is NOT required. I could be wrong. Looking to learn something here. Thanks. http://www.lawny.org/index.php/benefits-self-help-135/welfare-self-help-46/228-public-assistance-and-child-support There are exceptions in NYState but not many.
