  1. Compare it to football, baseball, etc*** Just tell them its unique and better than all the other sports, cause unlike theirs that require one ball........ Ours requires two..... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  2. my last 20 jumps or so have all been from 5k to 7k, I am trying to perfect my entry into gates. but its all good

  5. any of you old foggys remember your first dive. :) *** Yep, its not till later that the jumps start to blur together....... *(could be senility)........ya never knows.... Just remember you whippersnapper --- Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill Roy PS: CONGRATS --> the fun is just starting They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  6. The lower the wingloading - the more mistakes you can make and typically still walk away from... Its good that you are getting standups but that isnt a very good qualifier to downsize - give yourself time and you probably wont be able to say you always have gotten standups - sooner or later you will in all probability *Pick one---> "flair late"flair early"not flair"only complete the flair with one toggle.." --- oh hell, if your like I was early on you will probably do each one of these eventually. Malfunctions get more exciting as the wingloading gets higher as well. definately talk to your instructors/ S&TA / or dzo about this, they have seen you fly, but anything over 1-1 early on is asking for pain - cause mistakes happen. 12. While I can respect what your saying here you fail to understand the situation completely. The dog has escaped from everything that has been put in place to contain him, Is it better to let him run into traffic and die a messy death? or to get into a dog fight and kill or be killed? The kids are really attached to the dog and would be crushed if he were to be killed. They live just outside of Portland oregon and the highway is just over the hill, sooner or later the dog is going to get killed. We are trying to prevent it while still allowing it the maximum amount of freedom! I am sorry you think us to be cruel - its quite the opposite. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... 13. Hey all, I am helping to set up an escape proof fencing for a friends dog, he has a electric fence (wire) for horses, it puts out 1.5 Joules of shock. Will this be too much for a 50-80 lb dog? We dont want to hurt the damned dog, but he is Houdini reincarnated!!! He has tried the collars and proximity wires, but the dog has learned to hit the invisible fence line at high speeds thus only getting a short lived shock. Thanks; Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  14. Its hard to get paint to stick to any kind of plastic, I have had good results using 80 grit initially with two coats of epoxy primer sanded smooth with a polyeurithane topcoat (I am a painter) so without access to industrial primers your best bet is to check out the new lines of krylon paints that are formulated to be used on plastics. I havent used them yet so cannot attest to whether they work as advertised or not. Just a regular rattle can will look fine for a short period of time but start to chip and flake fairly soon depending on how abused the helmet is. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... 15. Are you getting the floating pud from sitflying? My first rig had a pullout and sitflying was the only way I ever had it happen to me (once) I had another inch of velcro added to the pud and container and the problem never occured again. 16. I know exactly how it felt !!! in 1999 I was borrowing a friends rig while waiting for my new one to show up, on a freefly with a friend from Richland I had the unfortunate experience of seeing my pilot chute fly right by my right hand followed by the bag and lines which caught under my legs, the opening was quite brutal, I had back pain for a few days --- and the line burns/bruses on the back of my legs was Very painfull. On the ground we figured out that the main -135 triathlon was smaller than the rig was made for, so the spandex pouch didnt have the tension it should have, so freeflying in it was stupid..... It sucks that the riggers didnt find the answer.... could just be a one time thing--- or not..... Glad to hear your in one piece. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  17. I get to see a piece of my first jump experience in each students face - The fear before their jump and the exultation after they take their first plunge. Plus I get nearly as big a thrill as they do, when they finally get their 'A' license. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  18. The reason I bring this up is a friend this weekend was doing an aggressive harness turn on a sub-100 elliptical loaded about 1.6 and when straightened out for the swoop the legstrap had slid down so they did a 90 degree turn and bounced twice off the ground, fracturing the pelvis in 3 places. Quote It sounds like a pilot error - he got distracted by the turn and forgot to do what he could to correct the problem prior to meeting the ground. What is his experience level>? How long on this canopy? Has he been doing harness turns long? In any event ~~~~~VIBES~~~~~~ to your friend. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  19. I have noticed this tendency at most of the smaller dz's that I have been to, the bigger dz's seem to have a more callouse attitude toward your gear.... I always follow the person to make sure they are ok, and to help recover gear, and I have been fortunate to receive help when chasing my main and freebag. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  20. I dont have one, but it is a good device. In my opinion everyone should have one untill they correctly deal with at least one mal... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
