  6. Damn......you have been here.......Oregon drivers drive fast in the slow lane, slow in the fast lane, park in handicapped places and in general exhibit poor driving skills, all the while convinced that they are the exception....... Try getting stuck on I-5 or 205 during rush hour......... not no fun......... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  7. -->As an American you have the right to Disagree with Government Policies. You have the right to gather peacefully and protest those policies. You have the right to speak out against policies that you do not agree with -->> I agree with you whole heartedly......but when they start blocking Interstate 5, and streets in downtown portland, then something needs to be done........25 years seems ....a .....bit......excessive though....... public flogging would keep me happy ok, maybe not.... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

  13. Hi, staining would be much easier than painting it would be, no brush strokes, no primer, and the stain would dent with the wood, unlike paint which would chip. If you decide to go with the stain, the easiest way to do it is (I am not pulling your leg).....take an old clean cotton sock, smooth side out, roll it up and with a rubber glove on, dip the whole sock in the stain, you could have the table done in no time, the sock will hold a lot of stain, Its a lot faster and more effecient than a brush. Have fun; Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  14. I used to find it amusing to see how long I could get away with an out of date reserve. I knew it would work just fine.......... till I realised that it would cause the pilot (who has spent a lot of money on his license) to get in trouble with the FAA since I dont want to get them in hot water, I now keep it in date. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  15. My reflex looks kinda strange packing it grommet to pin, but I used to watch the guys (and gals) under the high performance chutes pack theirs this way, and they had few line twists..... so when I got my fx85 I started doing this, only one line twist so far.... *knock on wood--->knuckles against forehead and this twist was caused I am sure by jumping tired, forgot I was wearing a camera suit, and not throwing both arms out at the same time equally. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  16. The cr2330 batteries are kinda rare to say the least. I got mine from radio shack in richland washingon, but when they wore out I went to the shack in Yakima and was told they knew nothing about that number series........ your best bet is from para gear.... although most larger DZ's I have been to keep some on hand and I havent noticed a larger markup on the price.. 17. "Bonus Days" are all the days you get after you're involved in an incident while skydiving that might have killed you, but didn't! Ordinary jumps don't count (but maybe they should! ) Interesting terminology, I like it. My bonus days began in 96. On my second freefall I went unstable and front looped into my main lines and was held upside down in them by my legs, all I needed to do was a back flip and everything would have been fine but I started grabbing lines and moving them from between my legs out and around to clear them, not surprisingly the more I seemed to put myself in the clear the worse the canopy started to look (I didnt go through the right - left line groups) thus giving myself a step through from hell...... when I got clear of all the lines the canopy looked like a wadded kleenex with a couple of normal looking inflated cells..... I decided to cut it away and use the reserve. buuuuttt apparently there was still lines under the container.....when I cutaway I went no more than two inches......"thunk"..... I can still remember the thought...."HUH??" quite clearly.....didnt even go far enough to activate the RSL........and then the spin started......never knew a Raven IV could spin so fast. I kept trying to find what was holding me but with the birds nest of lines I obviously missed something important.........and I knew it was bad JUJU to pull the reserve with this wad of crap above me so I kept looking frantically..........I did keep my altitude awareness and when I hit 1500' still enmeshed .... I pulled the reserve, I had no hope in my mind that it would work, my entire thought process was that it would make a bigger wad of crap thus slowing me down a bit more, hoping it would be enough to survive...... My guardian angel was apparently with me, the reserve was a 26' lo-po round and with the radicall spin going on it opened in front of me ... when it opened and swung above me, the main just floated away........then under the reserve facing into the wind, I realized that I was backing up toward the interstate.........and all I could do was hold into the wind and hope....... I missed the interstate by about 30' PLF'ng through a "very" fresh pile of cow dung.......I think it was the most beautiful smell I have ever smelled. So on that cold march day in 96' I began my "bonus days" Roy R. Springer D22369 PS: after that day I took stability during deployment extremely seriously....... They say I suffer from insanity.... 18. I understand that at certain DZ's (such as Empuriabrava) the use of an AAD is mandatory. I'm particularly interested to hear from other DZ owners who don't have a similar policy. What are your 'excuses'? >>simple, no excuse..... I have seen waaaay too many electronic devices fail......suddenly and catastrophically. I know where my handles are and how to use them, when I step outside the plane to hang there and wait for the tandem to leave, I like the security of knowing their isnt a electronic gizmo that could possibly *not that it is likely* fire and take my life. **And if the dz makes it mandatory then the first person who dies from a misfire would trigger a very big lawsuit..... even with the waivers in place....can you see the headlines??........."son/daughter killed by hardware designed to save...news at 11..."...........welcome to the USA........we are a very "rediculously" litigatious society........I prefer to save myself......and if you are too scared to jump without one, maybe you should take up golf..... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  19. actually....... the mod is re-locating the brake line attachment points (unless I have it totally backwards......like that would be a first!!!!..... the dealer says it would be better openings.....better flair....etc........ was just wondering if anyone had experience with the end result, but do apreciate all input. Thanks; Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  20. Hey all, I was wondering if anyone here has jumped a triathlon with and without the modification to the brake lines, and if so, what was your opinion on performance change and openings. My girlfriend just bought her own rig and this might be something she will be interested in doing. I have jumped the triathlons without the modification and they always landed just fine. Thanks; Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  21. Hi everyone, Just a quick note to introduce myself. My name is Roy Springer, I live in Vancouver WA. I have been reading rec. and dz.com for over two years and I much prefer the discussions here rather than rec. At rec. you scream, rant and rave....nothing discussed for the most part.... I doubt if I will post very often, I prefer to listen and only speak when absolutely necessary (in my mind) I may chime in on a subject from time to time, hope you dont mind. Looking foreward to discussing/arguing/--- in a civilized manner any topic that may come up......... Like I said, I have been reading for a while now, and for the most part I love the way everyone can *(mostly) get their opinions across without personal attacks......... everyone has a distinct point of view.... and for the most part, everyone recieves feedback in a very positive way. Thanks in advance. Roy R. Springer D22369 They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
