  1. Had the same problem buddy. this is what helped me. I was flying the canopy with a very straight body, i was straight down my back and down my legs if u get me. What i did was reach down behind my bum and pull the straps down the back of your legs a few inches towards your knees. then sit back in the harness kind of like you are sitting in a chair. this takes the pressure off your groin and to the straps behind your legs. This made it so much less painful for me. hope this helps you out.
  2. Nothing gets me out of bed quicker than on a day that i am going jumping. Take her on a jump for sure. Who knows it may just change her life for the better. The only time us jumpers are depressed while at a dropzone is when the weather is crap and we cant jump. good luck.
  3. Took me 3 months. Little dropzone, little plane, only a few instructors, pain in the ass.
  4. well i have done 166 jumps and consider myself very much a novice.
  5. There has been alot of banter about the Lodi incident where a novice jumper hit the tail after exit because he jumped up and the pilot had not powered down therefore leaving the tail dangerously low. Whats your opinion? vote now
  6. Man that looked like fun. That glide ratio looked pretty good. How much did that guy weigh? he looked a bit on the thin side. Doubt if my 200 pounds would ever glide like that.
  7. Some of these mountain bike helmets seem to have great impact protection in them. I was quite impressed when i tried one on. Alot of base jumpers in the us are using them. check them out.
  8. Being a new jumper i have only jumper at 3 dzs in australia and all loads i have been on the pilot cuts on jump run. How common is this done around the world? Sounds like madness to me to do jump run on full power. How hard is it to cut the power a bit and get the tail up a bit higher for the jumpers? In my view it was absolutely inevitable that one day someone was going to make a mistake and hit the tail, therefore endangering themselves AS WELL as the pilot. Lets face it people everyone in life makes mistakes. Im not saying that the jumper is not partly to blame as he was told but the tail should have never been that low in the first place. What about the 20 jumper doing his first solo after AFF. He has all this stuff going through his mind. He is still scared, his heart is pumping like mad, he is thinking about the jump, about his EPs if something goes wrong, Dont forget buddy dont jump up.... The whole incident should have never happened if the pilot gave a dam about the safety of the jumpers on his plane.
  9. I may be a new jumper but not cutting on jump run and leaving the tail low is the most stupid and reckless thing i have ever heard. This pilot is a idiot and i dont care how cheap the tickets were, the guy is a fool. It was only a matter of time before someone hurt themselves. We really need to protect new jumpers who during their early jumps will have alot going on in their mind about the jump. They will be scared and thats just one extra thing they shouldnt really have to worry about. This would never happen in Australia. Does anyone have any updates on this court case?
  10. I brought a cookie rok and it is for sale at the moment and i have ordered a mountain bike helmet, they have heaps more protection from a decent impact. I figure that if your going to wear a helmet you might as well have one that actually protects your head. Like you said even cookie has that sticker on them saying that they are not a crash helmet.
  11. If your sabre is opening up hard either get a pocket made for the slider or find a slider that is around 50% bigger. i did that for my monarch and it worked great. http://www.pcprg.com/hardop.htm
  12. If you got that for 500 or 600 bucks and had a rigger give it the thumbs up there is no reason you cant jump it. i have seen alot of people jumping worse rigs than that at dzs. Crikey our head instructor jumps a main with over 2000 jumps and reakons that it will make it to 3000. I am not one to waste money on hiring rigs that are a rip off, so i say get something like this for a budget price, have your rigger check it out and go jumping.
  13. mate to be honest a protec with the padding on the inside offers reasonable protection. Just about any other skydiving helmet you see people wearing are just a fashion statement. I brought a cookie rok and helmets like that are really only for carrying a camera and dont really offer any protection from a decent impact. I am in the process of buying a bell mountain bike helmet. they have foam padding that must be about 3/4 of an inch thick and are actually designed to protect the head from a decent impact. I figure that if i am going to wear a helmet i might as well get one that actually protects my head. I dont mean to put cookie products down but there helmets come with a big sticker on them when you buy them saying that they are not a crash helmet. cheers .
  14. Great jump maria, well done. I know that the ground seems to be coming up mighty fast on your first few jumps and i was tempted to flare early as well. good luck on the next jumps
  15. well done buddy. if your ever in sydney come down to picton and well go for a jump.
  16. He had probably paid up front and couldnt cancel the order. 18 months is a joke and i feel for you buddy. If they quoted you 6 months then that is bullshit and this company is a joke. the bastards wont ever get a cent from me.
  17. I say if you didnt specifically ask if they were included then it is partly your fault. At $18 for a new set i dont see what the big deal is.
  18. guinness world records says Don Kellner is the man with over 38000 http://www.dkellner.info/DonKellner.html Phil Onis from sydney did his 25000th jump last year.
  19. Ill jump with the guy. ill sit and he can be on his belly, no worries. If a tandem rig can handle 2 big guys then why cant he get trained with tandem gear. Sure may cost more due to the extra training.
  20. the best insurance against dying is * listen to your instructors and follow their advice. * get a rig with a big and doclie canopy and dont even think about downsizing until you have at least a couple of hundred jumps. * Deploy at a safe height like maybe around 4000+, just to give you an extra few seconds for when you do have a mal which will eventually happen. * Get a good AAD. * Wear a good helmet. * When conditions are borderline and you see some experienced jumpers packing their gear up, do the same and go home in 1 piece. * Dont do a rush pack job just to make the next load. * Eat your vegies...
