  1. dont have to do water training in australia.
  2. I started to try and sit and back fly and just muck around on around jump 20. I had no problem about getting back to stable belly if i had to or when it was pull time. I regret nothing.
  3. I am an aussie and did 6 jumps last weekend with 100% full cloud cover between about 3-5000 feet. I have always paid attention to the pattern the pilot uses to land the aircraft and am very wary to stay away from that area. We normally land north and i have the option to set up my landing pattern over the runway or over a freeway. I always go for the freeway. I try to stay as far away from the runway as possible. When i jump in full cloud cover i am even more wary of where the plane will be at a certain heights and try to make sure i am no where near his airspace. I dont think that there is a problem with the australian rules. The bottom line is that if you dont feel safe and comftorable to jump in cloudy condition then thats your call and dont jump.
  4. Learn to wear the pants in your household man, like i do. I can come out from underneath the table whenever i want to....
  5. tell her you are going to eat maccas and smoke every day instead of skydiving. Then tell her that over half a million americans die every year of preventable causes, like smoking and obesity. She will have the cash for your AFF course in your hot little hand in no time...
  6. thanks for the help guys. whats this tony suit t-bird u talk of. i cant find it in the tony suit web site? cheers http://www.tonysuits.com/zwing/index.htm
  7. ive heard these suits can take a few months to get made and in a few months i will be up to 200 jumps so im not going to wait any longer before i order one.
  8. thats a great photo, love that black and blue one. let me know if that guy wants to sell it. cheers
  9. did a few searches and couldnt find any direct comparisons between these 2 suits. has anyone flown both and can give me their opinion. it will be my first suit. Seems the phantom is a fair bit pricier ($1105 v $706us).
  10. I think you should take your time and go and visit the dz you are thinking of doing aff at. talk to the people and the current students. get a feel for the place. i would take careful notice of how big the plane is and how many jumps people are doing in a day. i spent 3 months sitting on my ass during aff cause i picked a dz with a small plane. cheers
  11. Thanks for the advice people. I figured the sabre zp was the best choice. Its funny how people think so lowly of f111 canopies, and that you are going to die if you fly one. They forget that back in the day they were the latest thing and that people put millions of jumps on them safely. I loved my first falcon 235. Im not going to keep this canopy for ever thats why i dont want to blow $2000 on it.
  12. i was taught to flat pack and have done 120 flat packs with no worries. everyone gives me shit about it but i tell them to get stuffed. They talk about how long it takes which is crap, i find i beat nearly every person that says that to me without rushing or taking short cuts.
  13. Im on the lookout for a 190 canopy. Am looking for mid 90s or younger with no more than 300 jumps on it. It seems that i will probably end up getting either a sabre, falcon or pd190. which one would u buy if they were all around the same money? Which one is best? thanks
  14. Brought a nice 215 monarch with 70 jumps on it not long after AFF. The openings nearly killed me. Put a 50% bigger slider on it and was a flamin beauty of a canopy. flew and landed great. opened great. its a shame to sell it cause i am downsizing. so i suspose its the worst and best canopy i have owned.
  15. I think its a good idea to visit all the dropzones u are thinking of starting your aff at. speak to the current aff students and get their opinion. check the planes out and see which one is the biggest and fastest. If you had walked up to me during my aff i would have told you to go to another drop zone. The dz i went to had a small cessna and we were lucky to get 1 jump in per day. Remember the place that has the most and biggest planes will more than likely be the dz that you can get the most jumps in during a day. There is nothing worse than waiting to get on a plane. My current dz has big and fast planes and if you go hard u can knock off 10 jumps in a day. cheers and good luck.
  16. I was looking at a 94 falcon 175 today and noticed that its label rated its max exit weight as 179 pounds? Whats the story with that? I did a bit of a search and found that a sabre2 170 is rated at 255 pounds. Why didnt the makers want jumpers to load their falcons at more than 1.0? Is it not designed to handle the weight ? Is it not strong enough? Are more modern zp canopies so much better that they can handle a heavier jumper? thanks for the help guys?
  17. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3260531;page=2;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; there does seem to be a few dropzones that allow 16 year olds to do aff. Good luck buddy. As far as base goes there are really no set rules, only guidlines. You can order a rig off the internet if you want and strap it on and go and jump off a building. Obviously having no experience with controlling your body in freefall, controlling a canopy, landing a canopy, you chance of surviving too many jumps like that are pretty slim. This is why the 200 minimum skydive guidlines are in place. i wish i had started skydiving when i was 16, man i would have been about a million bucks poorer right now...
  18. I am a little confused also? Why would anyone have a problem with jumping a main packed by a rigger? i feel alot safer jumping a main packed by a rigger who has 10000 pack jobs under his belt compared to my 100 trash packs...
  19. i recently brought a base container off a guy at my dz and couldnt believe we had to sneak out into the car park and do the deal out of the back of his car, like some dodgie drug deal. I was watching another guys dvd of his totally legal base jumping and he was asked to turn it off... weird.
  20. i own a 215 monarch and they were similar to the sabers and it opened like a mongrel. Hurt me bad. i ended up putting a slider that was 50% bigger in surface area than the original one. now its alot better.
  21. remember to keep your legs up when coming in for landing. dont drop them down until you are totally stopped. hearing bones snap is not nice.
  22. funny stuff, i drive over mooney nearly every day and have a peek over the side. not ready for base just yet, just brought this canopy to get some experience up on a big 7 cell.
  23. its a 1992 raven 2 with 3 jumps on it. i need a 7 cell to get some experience before i learn base.
  24. do all ravens have the ring at the top of the canopy so i can attach a d bag and pilot chute? i understand that there are reserve and main ravens. i am looking at buying a raven that was used as a reserve and wanted to fly it as a main. thanks heaps guys. ps i have searched for answer but no luck
