  1. nice job buddy. dont really know what is considered an actual malfunction. u going to post the vid ?
  2. i agree with you. whenever one comes up for sale it normally doesnt last very long. I suggest u check the classifieds section a few times a day and when one gets listed snap it up straight away. If not ring some dz who sell used gear and leave your details with them and tell them to call you when one becomes available.
  3. A Cypress or any other AAD is just a back-up device. If you're going to put all of your faith into it and depend on it to save your life, then you probably shouldn't be skydiving. This is true but the reports say that he cutaway at around 1500. That means that he should have been doing over 78mph as he travelled through 750 feet. Which means a cypress would have saved his life. I think you are mad if you dont jump with one.
  4. good luck buddy. at 6 foot 6 , 270 is not that overweight. i think its a bit cruel just to tell u to loose weight. Surely someone can give u a 300 canopy to learn on.
  5. I have a question about this topic. We had light winds a few weeks ago. I was doing aff stage 4. We stood on the ground and decided i would be at the end of the runway about 50 meters into the next paddock at 1000 ft. Then i would start my downwind run. i should be at the other end of the runway at 750 feet and turn right, i then should be at 500 feet above the dam and turn right for landing approach. So i am under canopy at about 3000 feet and i realise that the wind arrow is pointing in a totally different direction than when we were planning our landing. I am confused right now. do i abandon the plan and come up with another one or stick to the original plan? Has the wind changed that much in the past 30 minutes or is the arrow stuffed? I decided to stick to the original plan which worked out 100%. the instructor said that due to the variable and light winds the arrow could be anywhere. So is it a waste of time even planning a landing patern as the wind may have changed in the 20-30 minutes it takes to get up to altitude? Did i make the right move sticking to the original plan? What if the wind had started blowing hard in that time and here i am coming in super fast on a downwind run?
  6. welcome buddy, how good is the rush hey. ive done 6 jumps total and looking forward to finishing my aff course and getting my license. I think u may need to get those lips of yours looked at...
  7. I also struggled with this arch thing. My problem was my instructor was giving me the straighten leg sign all the way down when the real problem was i wasnt arching hard enough. He said imagine the having sex thing and i reminded him that i have a 8 week old daughter and i dont remember what sex is....

  10. it doesnt make sense to me to pay $38 to hire a rig then do this for 75 times = $2850, when i could have brought my own rig for that money from the start. i already have my first rig that owes me $1800. its got a 235 main in it. i just found a newer rig with a 210 main in it and wondered if i could jump that instead.
  11. where would we be without dreams? I say keep dreaming buddy. Whats so hard about balloon jumping anyway? sounds easier than squeezing out of our crappy little cesna.
  12. Half way through my aff course and we are jumping 240 canopies. Am looking at getting my first rig and have seen a nice one with a 210 size main. Is this a suitable size for a 90 kg (200 pound) beginner? is there much difference in flying a 240 compared to a 210. thanks
  13. Well done. i did my stage 2 yesterday. how much fun is it. I broke yesterdays record for landing furthest from the cross... way to go. cant wait until stage 3.
  14. Dont know where u jump but the rules in aust are that no student is allowed to jump through clouds.
  15. I just did my aff stage 1 jump on the weekend. It was unreal. I was very scared as we climbed out but once in the freefall i "screamed like a girl" all the way down. it was awesome being under canopy on my own and i found it very easy to control and the landing was no worries. cant wait until sunday for a few more stages. looking forward to trying to be stable in flight on my own.
  16. Sat was stage 1. There was alot of tandems so our jump was in the arvo. i was fairly nervous and once we jammed into the plane the nerves got worse. As the alti got closer to the 10000 i started thinking about why didnt i take up chess or something like that. I was going through the jump in my head about what to do during the descent. I know u could see it in my face that i was scared. When the door opened and 2 fun jumpers went i knew my time had come. I thought about chickening out but decided that facing my mates and telling them that i piked it was worse than what faced me outside of the door. I steped out and checked in and out and jumped. Then it all came back to me what a rush the freefall is and that this is what i had paid for. Apparantly i "screamed like a girl" all the way down. After a few practise pulls we enjoyed the scenery and waved off and pulled. What a rush. I grabbed the toggles and followed the arrow and then remembered to check the canopy which looked pretty good to me. Everything was alot quiter and i stopped screaming. I looked down to see the instructors pulling lower and in a spiral. I was in no rush to get down. There was very little wind and the radio man talked me through a few 360s and started our downwind run. The landing was a bit long and in the high grass but fairly soft. How good was that, George came over and congratulated me on a good jump and i had a smile that lasted for about 30 minutes. The plane broke down today so stage 2 will have to wait until next weekend. My biggest regret is why did i not do this 10 years ago.
  17. ssk did a great job on my cypres 1. it was 3.5 weeks total time including postage from australia. thumbs up for great service
  18. Wow this is weird , i am in the exact same position as you. doing my first jump this sat. I am fairly nervous about it thats for sure. Bit scary climbing out and standing on the wheel trying to do everything right and to let go at the right time. Hope u do well buddy
