  1. Take the slider off... that will make it open faster p.s i do not recommend u follow the above advice, it is a joke.
  2. My take on it is that if u never go low on a formation we wouldnt be talking about this. Get yourself a super baggy suit. Or if u want to do it on the cheap buy the biggest fleecy sloppy joe u can find. I went to the fat mans section at lowes and got a 7xl fleecy jumper after failing my starcrests time after time again. It cost me $12 and i couldnt believe that i was actually above the formation and had no problems arching a little bit and flying into my slot. End of going low problem on bigways. I leant it to a fellow big jumper who was struggling with his starcrests also, i told him to trust me and he did. Man he had a smile on his face after he landed and told me he passed his first starcrest no problem and was very happy.
  3. shame about his attitude though....
  4. The figures that i found were that scuba has a fatality chance of 1 in 50000 dives where it seems that skydiving is 1 in 100000. So this would seem that scuba is actually more dangerous than skydiving. Of course like any odds There is more to the picture than just numbers and if u play it safe u can obviously work the odds to your favour. The odds for me dying scuba diving are obviously different if i dive the coolidge at 70 meters on air racking up over an hour deco compared to me doing a 8 meter dive at terrigal. Same thing goes for skydiving. The odds of me dying during a skydive are obviously different if at my jump numbers i stay on a nice big 190 canopy or if i decide to try and be a legend in my own mind and get a crossfire 109 and start swooping on it.
  5. ask your instructors what size canopy u should be jumping and head to the classifieds section. Dont buy a new rig, get a good second hand one and spend the money u saved on jump tickets.
  6. what part of australia are u from zach?
  7. that price sounds pretty fair, i say take it.
  8. Ive done 300 jumps with no injuries so far. I have a 25 year old work mate who plays football and limps like he is bloomin 80 years old. He has a major ugly scar on both elbows and one knee where he has had major surgery due to football injuries. If you take up skydiving stay safe. Leave that extra margin for one day when something goes pear shaped. Open high, Follow brian germains downsizing chart, Use an AAD, good luck
  9. The first thing u can do for starters is squeeze yourself into a really slick and tight suit. U may need to get one custom made. Get it with small or no grippers that are flat and dont grab much air. Tell the company what u need and they will know what material to make it out of. Maybe mostly slick rip stop nylon like wingsuits are made out of. I reakon that most of your problems will be solved once u get the suit right. If that doesnt work maybe weight is your other only option but if your worried about your wingloading u may need to upsize your canopy. hope this helps.
  10. WOW does a sabre 2 really have end cell closures on EVERY jump u do? Whats the story with that? I have put 100 jumps on a old sabre 1 in really good nic with a bigger slider and have never had any end cell closures.
  11. The canopy currently has a mesh slider on it but i was going to put a sail slider on it if i was going to take it terminal.
  12. yes its a base canopy so i will be using a tailpocket.
  13. What are the pros and cons of taking a freepacked pack job to terminal? How bad is it and can it be done? thanks guys.
  14. I wasn't asking for more height for my sake buddy, i was asking it for the others as there was another guy on the course who had stability issues on the first load also and ended up opening pretty low. Its also a canopy course idiot so a few of us just wanted some more canopy time to practise the things that we had been shown in the classroom.
  15. Everyone makes mistakes buddy, you did well to unwrap it from around your leg and land safely. I think they shouldnt have let us out from what was less than 3500 feet, seeing as 7 of the 10 of us had less than 100 jumps. That is why i said something to the pilot and asked for 5000 feet on the future loads. Just to give us a bit more canopy time and also allow a bit more height for such a situation. cheers - winston
  16. First up i have never met Douggs so i am not biased in any way. The book is about His life and how he got into skydiving for the first time. It explains his progression through AFF and eventually working as a freefall cameraman and then a tandem instructor. He talks about his wild party days and his love for beer and getting pissed with his mates often. He talks about his start in base jumping and many of his base jumps that he has done all over the world (i think it was over 1000). He talks about the friends that he has lost from base jumping and skydiving. If u get offended easily then beware, Read the back of it first. It has swearing, drug and alcohol abuse, sex and all the good stuff a typical aussie bloke is into. It will make u laugh and it may make u cry. All in all its a great and very unique book. You wont regret buying it.
  17. At your weight and if your instructor says go a 170 i would say that u should listen to him. Dont worry too much about finding a rig that the on paper doesn't fit u exactly. I reakon the sabre 2 rig is okay, even though the owner is heavier than you, it should still fit u okay. The weight is not so much of an issue as the height of a person and most rigs can go a couple of inches either side on the height.
  18. i have been trying to log onto this site for days with no luck, think i forgot my password but have tried multiple times to get it emailed to me but nothing has come through. Also tried setting up a new user but still nothing
  19. After Bill pays his lawyers i wonder if he is going to cut next time he sees a guy with 15 jumps who is about to get out and has a million things going through his mind... I bet he does.
  20. I brought a vigil 2 off mike that ended up in the wrong country, He straight away sent another one out to me without question. I ended up with 2 of them and ended up selling the 2nd one and paid him for it. Nice guy and great service.
  21. I have never brought anything off Gary but he does seem like a very nice guy. Here is Australia he has made alot of offers to help out other jumpers especially newbies, with offers to borrow rigs for free to use at boogies and stuff like that. He also offers to sell your used gear for no commission. Seems like a rare breed who is more focused on getting fellow jumpers in the air with a smile on their face as opposed to milking them for every penny he can get out of them. Hats off to you Gary. Hope to do business with you some day when the wife scores that big high flyer job .....
  22. So i have a total of 20 jumps on my firebird and am feeling good in it. Nice and stable, able to hold a heading, turns are okay. I have a mach 1 sitting at home and was planning on trying it when i get to at least 50 jump mark and am feeling 100% in the firebird. My question is what should i be prepared for on the first flight in the bigger suit? What is going to be different? What should i be prepared for apart from the dam huge smile on my face... thanks guys.
  23. I saw a friend of mine make a mistake after a recent downsize and have a high speed impact. His pelvis was in 7 pieces, Not to mention his 2 broken femurs. The doctors had to fillet his bum cheeks like a fish in order to get at his shattered pelvis and try to screw it all back together. If it hadnt rained the day before they say he would be dead. Post your thread again when u have 500 jumps.
