  1. That was the first thing I thought as well.....a quick left rear riser turn would have most likely saved his ass
  2. I had the lanyard connection points rip off of my para-concepts RDS. After some research, I found that a few others have had the same problem. Other than that, I works pretty well. I suggest removing the connection points and adding new ones. Just my .02 might save you having to buy a new d-bag and pilot chute
  3. I have weighed a strong rig with a SET 366 in it and it was 54 lbs. Didn't weigh the harness. Passengers are always asking how much they weigh and I got tired of hearing all the different answers from the different instructors(everything from 50 to 75 lbs), so out of curiosity me and two other instructors went and weighed one.
  4. Made it to 1,387 before my first. Have had 2 now, both tandems. Am really looking forward to my first sport rig chop!!
  5. Nobody has mentioned the fact that when base jumpers are jumping slider down, that they are doing VERY short delays and starting with NO speed. Even if you dump directly out the plane, even a slow 182 you are going somewhere in the 80 +/- mph range just my .02
  6. Was in South Carolina(doesn't really matter) That situation actually adds more to towerrats examples. Chip(the TI) taught the student just enough to almost kill himself. Chip taught him what the toggles were for, how to steer and basically how to land. When it came time to land the student couldn't reach both toggles and only "flared" with the one that he could reach! Thinking that doing so would be better than doing nothing. Luckily he either didn't pull it hard or high enough to cause a steep dive, but if he would have, it very well could have been a double fatality.
  7. It could also be that, like in my situation, more people are going with an optimum reserve and crossedbraced canopies. The optimum packs smaller and the crossedbraced packs larger.
  8. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/page.cgi?g=Detailed%2FMain_Canopies%2FVELOCITY_VELO_111__144256.html;d=1 so he's not fully full of shit. Velo 111 is for sale!! Maybe he's upsizing.
  9. ass clown is good big pile of stupid(or dumb) is one of my favorites
  10. I read lots of sci-fi/fantasy as well, some of my favorites are.. Robert Jorden's Wheel of time series Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series Kim Harrison's The Hollows(little more girly than I usually read, but I like it for some reason) and not so much sci-fi/fantasy but Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth and World without end are good
  11. here is a chart my grandfather had from years ago. Kind of a crappy picture, and I cut off the bottom. It says that anything of 40 mph adds no perceptible difference.
  12. Don't know him. I do however know the DZO and all the instructors at that DZ . I think everyone needs to know about this!! The DZO is a super great guy that has been running that cessna DZ for 30ish years. I'll spread the word about Mr Eric, happily.
  13. I built one almost exactly as you described. The one difference is that I put the cutaway for the first main on the chest strap of the second harness. I also static lined the first main, but could have gone hand held direct bag. This setup works great!! (at least for me it did)
  14. He-man!!! and yes after I'm dead they can post all the pics they want of me wearing em
  15. just looked it up(didn't watch the game), I thought it was pretty funny!!! People need to stop being so PC, it's just a commercial
  16. I'm more of a beer snob then a coffee snob....but cafe bustelo is pretty darn good
  17. Skydive Carolina in Chester, SC could handle it. They are very good about working with groups such as yours.
  18. By plastic, I'm gonna assume you are talking PVC and not PEX. PVC is very simple. Make (semi) straight cuts. Use primer and glue on BOTH sides of joint. Make sure and hold for a couple seconds after the joint is put together or it can push apart. Use PVC for cold water and CPVC for hot water PEX is easy as well. but there are some specialty tools required. So unless you wanna spend extra money on tools to use once, I would go with PVC
  19. cast is usually for sewage. Galvanized, plastic or copper for most all other house hold water.
