  1. I was lucky enough to jump out of that DC-3 when I visited Skydive Arizona in this spring. Never saw so many skydivers packed into one plane. Wow... I jumped it nearly 10 years ago. Did it still take 30 min to get to altitude? Everyone, does it really climb that slow (full) or was that likely deliberate at the time since there were two tailing Otters? Even the old engines say it climbs 1100 ft/min, which is not slow for a jump plane (unless that was empty and is 400-500 when full).
  2. Exactly! Sabre1-120, DOM Jul-94 (or 95?). Paid $250 cash in 2006 (was told 500ish jumps...paid another $300 30 jumps later since it needed a new lineset anyway). Crossfire1-99, 2001 (paid $500 cash in...2009 I think, had 1100+ jumps on it and I've put 400+ on it). Sabre1 works great for wingsuiting (and prefer NOT to use the Crossfire for wingsuiting).
  3. And their defense was their First Amendment right to lie. Have they (the ratings agency execs) really stated such? If so, then yea...unbelievable that they weren't charged. I think Inside Job (the documentary) mentioned that the ratings agencies, if not really "on the take", that low level analysts were afraid to honestly rate securities since they didn't want to have a bad reputation when trying to "move up" to higher paying positions at those investment banks whose securities they were reviewing.
  4. You and a whole lot of other posters on here thought that: Also. Also. And the cynic's view. It seemed to work for Iceland. Yes, and I appreciate and agree with the sentiment...but keep in mind that Iceland is just a teensy bit smaller than the good ol' US of A and it would be a bit harder to manage the fallout/recovery than Iceland.

    rig weight

My cat weighs more than my rig....but my rig is only 18.9 pounds (or maybe it was 19.8 - it's been a while). Any many others are much smaller. Yes my cat is fat...but he's a big boy orange tabby. He'd be normal at 18 and a lean machine if he could get down to 16.

  7. Good to know about expectations. Thanks.
  8. My Solo II decided to not work properly on Saturday. I did three jumps - a wingsuit jump and two sit fly jumps. On the way up, it didn't beep at 1000 ft, then on the first jump, I think it beeped just before exit. On the first (wingsuit) jump, it sirened at me (the loud third warning) from about 13K down to 11K...and then didn't go off at all at the warning altitudes (I always have it set to 4500, 3500, and 2500). On the second and third jumps, it just sirened at me the whole time in freefall. I considered leaving my helmet on the ground for jump #3 (due to the annoyance), but then thought I'd try checking my settings again. I got into the area to do the settings and confirmed them, but it didn't due anything. I've yet to push the reset button and replace the batteries (the low battery light doesn't flash though, so shouldn't need to). Anyone else have issues like this? It just crap out on me and time to get a new one? It wasn't stored in any weird/extreme conditions since last use, so I don't now why it would crap out on me like this.
  9. If you are asking what happened to him: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4659104;#4659104 gracias
  10. Sorry to hear this, but good to see you post and are back. Is there a thread I can read or a one-sentence TL; DR?
  11. Oh, they'll find something...as un-newsworthy as it may be.
  12. "mt denali" gets the correct results and 19.7M. My point though in the "apples to apples" is that Mt McKinley is specific and Denali is too general (would include the national park, the SUV, etc in search results).
  13. Not apples to apples. Denali is the National Park and other....stuff. You need "mount" in front of both.
  14. You realize your post makes no sense, right? "If the Feds wanted to call it Denali it would have already been done..." implies that it is only a problem because it is happening now. What is it about the timing that is a problem? "...without needing an edict handed down from on high." What edict are you talking about? Just because Obama made the annoucement doesn't make it an edict. The change was made by the Interior Department. The President just announced it. It was not an edict. This whole thing is just a raging case of ODS. The Department of the Interior is a cabinet-level agency. Its secretary gets marching orders, especially politically motivated/charged marching orders, directly from the President. This is purely a political move ahead of his visit. All President's do this sort of nonsense, not just Obama. No ODS needed here ...it is just what is happening. You said the "Feds want to call it Denali". I said "If the Feds wanted to call it Denali it would have already been done ...". Turns out that it did take an edict by these particular Feds to get it done ...or, like I said, it would have already been done. Doesn't matter anyway, my whole point is being missed, and it really has nothing, whatsoever, to do with Pres. Obama, the Feds, or anyone else ...only the name or naming of the mountain, itself. I've decided that I'm going to start calling it "Mt. Outofamolehill". Why does have to be politically motivated? I like this (bullet point from a Salon article): • Sarah Palin, of all people, referred to the mountain as Denali in her 2009 farewell address after resigning halfway through her first term as governor.
  15. Having landed 26' conical and 177 sf 5 cell reserves, I want a nylon overcast when I pull silver. When I cut away my Icarus EXTreme 99, I landed under a Raven II 218. I have never been under reserve thinking "ah, I could have gone a size smaller..." BSBD, Winsor Wow. Your rig can really handle a reserve 2x the size of your main?
  16. Loved this comment: "For starters its a cargolux 747-8F (a freighter) secondly its a wing wave, customary when a new aircraft leaves Boeing field where they were built. Thirdly, shut the hell up with making headlines out of nothing."
  17. Wasn't there a thread on this a few months back?
  18. Caveat: I haven't had cable in years and thus have not watched any of the talking heads myself. This is a friend's Facebook post yesterday on the candidates: "Political observations on the candidates so far: When reporters ask a presidential candidate about something the candidate would rather not talk about there is a pattern in the type of response given. Trump: Yeah I said it, I am right and you are dumb. Where’s my jet? Clinton: The facts are out there and I didn’t do anything wrong. I am one of you. Where’s my jet? Christie: Enough with the bridge already. 9-11. Where’s the helicopter bridge traffic is awful. Jeb Bush: Hu? Um… the intelligence, I blame the intelligence. Carson: …………………………………………… I ………………………….aaaaa…………. Rick Santorum: That’s not what my name means! Huckabee: I think a Chrisitian Califate IS the way to go. Walker: I am not out of my depth. Yeah, the 14th amendment won’t hold up in court. Bernie Sanders: I don’t like that question. I don’t answer big media questions. There is something deeply wrong with people wanting to make decisions for themselves. Paul: People do care about government over reach! Marco Rubio: [Insert perfect polished politician commentary] Cruz: I am not Canadian. Paul is right, vote for me. I am one of you."
  19. double-digit on a velo w/ wingsuit...no surprise there! Yeah, I know about my crossfire...actually had my "inaugural" cutaway a week ago. It always flew nice and straight even with twists, but this time it was just real stubborn and didn't want to untwist from the ~3 twists I had. At 1800 while flying backward with the wind, I said see ya! After a few times with line twists, I put that sabre1 back in service (had been in my closet for a few years). Obviously this latest time on the crossfire caught up to me (thinking meh and not swapping out for the sabre1).
  20. I'd say Sabre1, but you said "#1 goal is soft openings" so I guess never mind. Really though, Sabre1 wingsuit openings are QUITE different from a normal "terminal" RW jumping opening. Being completely square, it opens on-heading. Even in my crappiest of body position openings, even if I get line twists, it just untwists itself once done twisting up. Can't say the same about my Crossefire-99.
  21. It's "just religious people." http://www.secularprolife.org/
  22. From the article: Hoggert said they’re trying for a baby, with no luck thus far, but she is confident it will happen even though she is 52. “Once I’m pregnant, Bigfoot, or John as I call him, and I are going to settle down and live a quiet domesticated life in my house. He loves living in the forest, but I’m sick of the long-distance relationship. I have to commute for three hours to be with my man. It’s getting old and gas is expensive.”
  23. Disclaimer: I may not know what I'm talking about since I'm not a pilot or otherwise involved in aviation other than skydiving. I would suspect that, even if it could hold 8-10 jumpers, that 1) the low tail could be an issue and 2) with piston engines, the advertised climb rate of 1550/min would not be close in reality with a plane full of jumpers. Anyone with better knowledge feel free to dispute!
