  1. A little surprised no one mentioned CSM (Christian Science Monitor). I've read some good articles by them and have always heard good things by others. I know....at face value, sounds like a Watchtower tract (Jehovah Witnesses). And if I compare to myself (an Orthodox Christian), again at face value, I ought not read anything by them or think them unbiased or credible.
  2. The most amazing part of that video is that the maker watermarked it, but has no shame about ripping off Aerosmith. Steven Tyler begs Bruno Brokken to use his music on his videos. Begs him. Wasn't aware they were BFFs.
  3. Yeah...voting is sooooo difficult. I have to actually walk all the way to the mail box, get the ballot out of the mail box, bring it into the house, then open the envelope, READ the ballot so I know what/whom I'm voting for, use an acceptable writing implement to mark the ballot, put the ballot into the envelope, remember to SIGN the envelope, even SEAL the envelope, and most difficult of all...remember to actually put the envelope back into the mail.
  4. I thought it was right-wing geo-engineering conspiracy ("chemtrails")? This "Geo-engineering Watch Group" has taken out an ad on a local electronic freeway billboard to "stop the spraying". Sigh....
  5. Plenty of snow in our mountains Jimmy... and even here in the foothills of the Cascades... it is right chilly outside right now... 18 F here at the house... but the fire in the woodstove is making it right comfy here in my little hovel in the woods. http://mtbaker.us/snow-report Just read that Sierra snow pack is 132% of normal. Great start!
  6. Ouch! I met Don at Perris about 9 years ago I think. I guess the day he showed he hadn't been for a few months and got a sarcastic welcome over the PA. When did the amputation happen? I don't remember seeing a foot (or lack thereof) issue, but don't think I was looking either.
  7. I've heard Aussie parliament discussions get just as feisty (and crude). Anyone?
  8. My rig was built (years ago) for my Sabre1-120 (loaded @1.4). I have a crossfire2-99 (@1.8) I like to jump, but try to stick to the Sabre1 for wingsuiting (avoid line twists etc). They are both on risers/d-bag, store the one I'm not using in one of those PD demo bags (you can buy from the PD website), and swap out in 5 minutes or so when I want.
  9. I assume what you're really getting at is that Halliburton and others should be paying, big conspiracy for the war(s), blah blah blah. I'm not saying that it's NOT one big conspiracy about oil, Halliburton (and others) are taking advantage, etc, but your problem is that you need to prove this conspiracy such that the government is in the wrong, needs to recompense those wronged, and force Halliburton etc to "pay up"/fix things. Well, yeah....don't we all. And we can all just make world peace happen too. Sounds great, won't happen. But if you want to help veterans, then go help veterans or give money to (legit) organizations who do. Just don't ask for some special tax increase or whatever to fix the VA/government. They need to fix their own awful waste and inefficiencies.
  10. I haven't done a jump there in close to two years...about 50 total, over half racked up several years ago around the ownership transition when they had a 206T.
  11. http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/4887956-181/cloverdale-city-council-votes-to?artslide=0 I hope this falls through....original article posted back in July. Similar Kimmie types have complained about noise for years. I have about 50 jumps here over two different owners (called San Francisco Skydiving then NorCal). Btw...the King Air rotting in the background on the second pic I believe used to be used down in Cabo years ago until the owner died in an accident.
  12. NWFlyer went recently. I know two other skydivers who went, but don't know if they're on dz dot com. This is their blog below, which you should find helpful: https://rompingandnguyening.wordpress.com/2015/08/19/cuba-know-before-you-go/
  13. I have a tux for concerts I sing in as well as three suits, of which I'll wear a suit only a few times a year. Accordingly, I only get them cleaned ever couple years or whatever since they are worn sparingly and I don't often sweat in them. A couple times ago, I think the cleaning bill for a suit...or two (been a while) was like $25 or something. I think the last time it was closer to $40 or so and I thought, "really? I didn't remember it being that much." Well my tux was getting a little stank, so I took it in. This was run by some old Asian woman who didn't speak English that well, gave me a duplicate copy and only took cash or check when I picked up. It was only $15 for a two piece suit (tux - just jacket and pants. I can machine was the shirt). What do people typically pay for dry cleaning?
  14. I've only really noticed this from a pilot at a certain non-USPA Group Member DZ. But not a big deal to me.
  15. I at least see the upside to us with common sense and a spine: at least there will be jobs for us since there will be so many unhireables out there.
  16. So much yes! I'm just glad I haven't experienced much of these situations. Related to this, a big factor in rising tuition costs is the huge increase in # of administrators (and their salaries) that significantly out paces the increase in # of students. One of the biggest areas, using the (California) UC system as an example is the creation of "Diversity" departments and all their staff to essentially police all the other departments with regards to hiring (which often hires under or barely qualified candidates), procedures, curriculum, conduct, etc.
  17. Then who made up National Men Make Dinner Day? As in...who the hell is this Sandy Sharky? http://www.menmakedinnerday.com/home/index.php
  18. Don't doubt it... Now you're just being a poopy pants party pooper.
  19. I wish USAir would actually have made that announcement during a flight back to SF from Charlotte back in April. Really though...I wouldn't have cared about the free drinks - I just wanted one of the damn advertised meals!
  20. So today is National Sandwich Day. I think the internet newsy news told me I could get a free sandwich from Subway if I want. Meh. Only if someone randomly gets it for me. I'll probably honor the day at a quality local place instead. More to the point though...who the hell thinks of these things and how are they "decided"? All corporate sponsorship (i.e. Hallmark for Valentines Day)? ISTM that only in the past year or so that every day is some different food "national day". Really though, no skin off my back - just curious about how all this gets established.
