  1. Can we get the topic back to the are where 80% is consumed (being Ag), mmmkay? Thanks.
  2. WHY do people (not just picking on you - you just happened to say it) keep saying that the region is unable to support the population level? Take for example Germany, which has an area the size of Montana, but with double the population of California. Yes, they may get more precipitation, but I highly doubt they consume even close to the same water as CA. I'm sure similar comparisons can be made for other European countries. As has been said several times in SC, it's Ag that's the biggest issue. 80% is consumed by Ag. It is the current Ag use that is unsupportable and should be shifted to other parts of the country.
  3. And then they proceed to publicly demonstrate their utter brilliance by reactivating threads that have been dead for a year and a half, in order to make the point. QED, fellow traveler. No way, Andy! It's been dead for less than 11 months!
  4. In other news... http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/3847174-181/cloverdale-delays-renewing-lease-for?page=1
  5. At least I know I'm not the only one thinks this!
  6. Since there was mention of comparisons to Muslim workers (on pg 1, referring to Target cashiers, but I remember mentions of bakeries elsewhere). Note: I haven't actually watched this yet myself. http://www.mrctv.org/blog/hidden-camera-trying-buy-gay-wedding-cake-muslim-bakeries
  7. I'll happily bow out if this is too much of a sidebar, but what do we think of the "destroy Israel" rhetoric of Iran. While yes, they believe it. I believe it is effectually empty rhetoric. Just because they say it, doesn't mean they'll ever actually attack Israel (unprovoked). A lot of right wingers foam at the mouth we know about the fear of Iran and Israel.
  8. No mention yet, so.... What about wingsuiters? Can't buckle it around the leg/harness and often they are too short to go around your waist. Sometimes it is long enough to reach your chest strap, but this was already frowned upon.
  9. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) $193.07 Million Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) $81.63 Million Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) $76.30 Million Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) $65.91 Million Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) $55.07 Million Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) $52.93* Million Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) $45.39 Million etc. Btw, Feinstein's husband's company just got the near billion dollar contract for the High Speed Rail project in California.
  10. Hang the fuck on. The rest of your post I more or less agree with, but this one I have to say "no, we don't NEED them, but I really, really really really really want them and life will be way better with them" Yup. Why have to pay attention and stay awake when you can enjoy your trip resting/sleeping or entertaining yourself? Yes, it can be fun to drive....and frequently NOT so!
  11. You are correct. We could save all water for the environment and drinking/bathing and import our food. This would obviously cause other problems. Ag uses 80%. Telling people to take shorter showers, etc is very minimal in savings compared to any measures to cut usage for ag. You know...that annoying 80/20 rule.
  12. That's not what happened. There was water planning and capture. There was a system designed and buiolt to provide for crops and people. Then there became another interest with river fish and river restoration. This meant a huge interest was competing for resources of a system that wasn't designed to handle it. I compare it to NASA being asked to launch the Space Shuttle with 2/3 of the fuel for the SSMEs. Laws of nature say it can't be done without taking away payload. Same with agriculture. It takes a gallon of water to grow an almond. It takes 13 gallons of water to grow an orange. It takes 53 gallons of water for an egg. Ev entually the Central Valley will not be arable due to salt accretion. But growing food with less water just really isnt an option. Yes there is. It it's called being efficient (e.g. drip systems). And we don't NEED to grow water thirsty almonds to sell to Asia....they just happen to be highly profitable for farmers. Also, what about CV water usage over the years? Oh, that's right, back to Wendy's point of "fucking water rules keeping me from MY water..." entitlement and no meters to actually keep track of how much is being used. Go figure. But we need another thread for this discussion....
  13. I don't know for sure, but I'm willing to guess we have a higher ethanol content. Not only is it worse for fuel economy, it's worse for the fucking car too. Bingo Ethanol contains less BTU's per gallon Even at 10% gas milage is reduced Three words: Fucking. Corn. Lobby. +1
  14. Exactly. As I said, why can't they be like "thank you for sharing, but I don't agree" and go their merry ways.
  15. I have a couple of beer drinking acquaintances (wouldn't say friends) that work at a location in town. I hope their jobs haven't been instantly torpedoed.
  16. Anyone who drives a Prius have any data on mileage for CA vs non-CA? I have 240K on my 2nd gen '07 (original hybrid battery, but anticipate finally replacing it in the near term) and STILL recently got a 50 mpg tank. My crappy long one-way commute of 41+ miles at least helps boost the mpg.
  17. As for a reaction, how about "Thanks for sharing."...and then they are free to disregard anything that Bibi said? Yes, the theatrics are well....ridiculous.

    House of Cards

Too bad the DVDs will lag the streaming by a while (at least I think it well). I hope I'm wrong.
  19. Another nutcase harassing a DZ.... And yes, I think it is another "complaints by the same three people" situation. http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/3474600-181/cloverdale-skydiving-dispute-in-holding?page=2
  20. Fuck you Hector. If it's not about the beer, then don't fucking call it beer can chicken; especially if beer is not involved at all. +1 There's one down the street from me. I've been there once. This is just another reason to not go a second time.
  21. A relative of mine once did it with a can of Maui Brewing Coconut Porter. OUT-STANDING. (And obviously the dry rub spices were really good too.)
  22. They'd have to buy those rolls of plastic bags at the grocery store. I'd rather reuse plastic grocery bags for that purpose. Ditto here. I use them to scoop the cat box.
  23. Yup, I'm aware of it. In my present job situation, unfortunately my time is taken up by the boring stuff (very admin/data entry). If I can convince the uppers to hand off lots of this, then time can be freed up. This specific situation, as first mentioned, is to get a file to import into some third party app. Thems the specs - I'm just trying to figure out how to get the data into the required form.
  24. Nevermind - looks like I fixed it. IsNull((IsNull(Sum(Vol_TY)/NullIf(Sum(NumUnits_TY),0),0) - IsNull(Sum(Vol_LY)/NullIf(Sum(NumUnits_LY),0),0))/NullIf(Sum(Vol_LY)/Sum(NumUnits_LY),0),0) AS AvgUnitPrice_Diff_Pct, (Div 0) IsNull((IsNull(Sum(Vol_TY)/NullIf(Sum(NumUnits_TY),0),0) - IsNull(Sum(Vol_LY)/NullIf(Sum(NumUnits_LY),0),0))/(Sum(Vol_LY)/NullIf(Sum(NumUnits_LY),0)),0) AS AvgUnitPrice_Diff_Pct, (Works!)
