  1. Yep. The beginner suits will have drag in places to put you in the positions you want but you'll have to put more input to move around. The more advanced suits are harder to fly but more responsive but fit is also very important - a badly fitting 'advanced' suit will also require more input to move around in. I've got a sonic tunnel suit and the boogieman bionic suit. I think the bionic is easier to fly. Have a look at their website. They're quite bulletproof. I know a lot of guys who have vertical suits but have had problems with them fitting and having to send them back multiple times to get them spot on...
  2. My RAWA vision is a L but my G3 is XL. Oddly I'm also an XXL for the cookie Fuel so WTF

  4. Once you've been a few places and got yourself known (and bought the beer) you might be able to borrow a rigs and save you the hassle of taking your own. Rigs on hand luggage can be a real chore at security, especially these days... Mine go checked every time now.
  5. If you have a look in the classifieds or even post in there then you might have some luck.. http://www.dropzone.com/classifieds/Aircraft/
  6. Continuing the non-sequitur theme: Attack of the beer-loving mayflies
  7. However the evaporation of the earth's oceans and the ending of all life due to heating of the sun is likely to occur about 1 billion years from now. I'd worry more about what can occur in this and the next few generations for now myself personally.
  8. This was established in the UK some years ago I believe when a married man had a sex change and the circumstances were similar. As far as I am aware, more generally such EU agreements leave member states to make their own laws as long as they sit within the framework agreed. Thus it allows countries such as the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands etc. to have same-sex marriage laws whereas other member states have not but all countries still operate within the European Convention on Human Rights. The thing that does irk me a little is that these cases make the ECJ when they should be decided by the national courts. The ECJ should decided upon the more broader issues as to whether the member states laws comply with, in this case, the ECHR. The backlog at the ECJ is huge in part due to it hearing cases that should be decided by member states' judicial systems. Mild rand over
  9. You probably got a hefty 'handling fee' from UPS as well... As I did once. Never again
  10. Don't you just put the gear in the trunk of your car and drive it over the border like everyone else There's some good calculator here which actually has skydiving gear on it: http://www.dutycalculator.com/ Adam.

    iFly Seattle

I visited this tunnel with the family whilst on vacation. Pros: ----- This is the 14ft, 1600hp (1.2 MW) skyventure unit so has plenty of power for HD flying and as usual it's got smooth airflow and only a small burble by the door. It has a diffuser which means that the airflow speed is reduced as you go higher in the tunnel. The staff are friendly and very customer-focused. From the guys I spoke to the technical standard of the instructors appears to be high and they are super-stoked tunnel flyers & skydivers. Cons: ------ The tunnel suits are okay (well, better than those at iFly tunnels in the UK) but a very baggy (one-size-fits nobody) size. Use your own stuff. The only refreshments are from vending machines so if you think you're going to be hungry then eat beforehand. There's plenty of places close by. The viewing area is quite small. Cost-wise it's not massively expensive (for tunnel rates at least) but it's not cheap either. They do have pro-flyer rates. The booking system is a bit clunky, for example the group booking date field resets when you select the tunnel location despite the date field being placed before the location field. The site also could not process my booking, claiming that the time had already been taken. A 'phone call to the tunnel clarified that the site was wrong and time was available so I booked over the phone. It's probably just best to book by phone. Other stuff: ------------- There's a couple of creeper areas marked out with a 14ft ring but this had been taken over as a meeting or events room. Creepers are available. I could find one team room for use by pro-flyers for briefing/debriefing. There's a screen that's on a 2 minute delay available in the holding area to review your rotation. There's an electronic waiver/disclaimer/don't sue us system which appeared to be a tad contrived but otherwise okay. The reception desk did seem exceptionally busy. It's really close to the SeaTac airport. Summary: ----------- The tunnel itself is great for flying in. The guys are super friendly and super stoked. The onsite facilities aren't class-leading but that's no biggie if you're prepared.
  12. Just remembering friends.. I only met you a few times Taz, shortly before your ill-fated trip to Empuria. Just letting you know you're not forgotten.
  13. ... and go the whole hog and use capewells too.
  14. It's a travesty that milo is not available in the UK. I got an addiction for it in Oz.
  15. There are quite a few that do jump regularly but join the USPA. These guys tend to jump in spain or the US. In order to jump at BPA dropzone in the UK (there's one in Cyprus and Germany too) then you have to have BPA membership as a (very significant) portion of the membership includes 3rd party insurance in case you land one someone's house or car. The actual number of jumpers in the UK will be slightly higher than those given by the BPA. Most jumpers are flat flyers though. I would estimate that there's probably about 100 or so freeflyers that are good enough to do big-ish way freefly jumps in the UK. HTH
  16. It depends if it is regarded as a cruel and unusual punishment which I believe is prohibited in the US constitution (it certainly written in the UK's Bill of Rights). From what I've read there's section of society believes that it was cruel so are petitioning the courts to decide. They'll consider it, decide and then make a ruling I suppose.
  17. Thankfully in the UK the number of regular jumpers is up on 2012 (5557 vs 5260) and the total number of jumps is up 4.5% to 261,951 (which is a drop in the ocean compared to US total numbers). How many of these are fun jumps is not clear though.. but generally the UK's getting better despite the cost which, admittedly these days, is getting prohibitive.
  18. Good luck!! You'll have an awesome time.
  19. I would be hoping that I've drilled my EPs in so well that muscle memory would handle the load.. thinking, looking and figuring things out in a high stress situation takes valuable seconds. You have a point though. I remember watching a documentary on the three mile island accident in which ambiguous controls led to confusion as to which instrument to adjust. Similarly operator difficulties interpreting instrumentation under stress led to a plane crashing at East Midlands Airport a number of years ago.. The point being there's a lot of history of people making mistakes in high-stress situations due to either changes in the kit they were operating or ambiguities in what equipment to operate.
  20. I'm a bit hard of thinking this morning .. go on.. let me in on the joke
