  1. As far as I know there's no requirement for a D ring for noobs with the BPA. I'll have a look at the Ops manual if I get time later today. Edited to add: There's no mention of 'D' handle vs Pillow n the equipment section of the ops manual.
  2. Can you get yourself and your rig to Sunrise Rigging at Z-hills? I'm sure Tony and the gang will have a good look at you wearing the rig and make any adjustments you need to make it comfortable for you. I've found them pretty responsive for the 2 wings I've owned. Both were bought from new and to fit me.
  3. I wholeheartedly agree which is why I don't wear a go pro. I did a few dummy pulls of the soft pillow handle on the ground with my rigger just before repack. The first time I found it quite hard to unpeel but subsequent goes found it easier. Prior to buying the rigs, having thought about this, I came to the conclusion that downsides of having a pad (harder to grab hold of than a D handle, change of drills to 'unpeel', less positive pull) were not enough to outweigh the risks of other peoples go pros, thumbs or other appurtenances pulling the handle and me end up having my reserve wrapped around the tail of the plane. YMMV, of course.
  4. Nope. Mine are plenty comfortable. Are yours unusually tight or loose?
  5. Pillow due to this I fully appreciate the D handle though.. my last rig had one. I had a few practice drills with my new rig (Wings W8) and I have to say the first time I tried the velcro was really really sticky and even peeling it was tough.
  6. I hope these guys learn from those that jumped from Freedom tower and maintain radio silence... The NYPD appear to have had a complete sense of humour failure
  7. You might want to ask the guys at Skydive St George in the UK. They're at a towered airport and their airspace is controlled by ATC. They also run commercial passenger flights into and out of the airport but it's not a busy one.
  8. I did the same. I realised that in order to get to the next level that I'd have to commit to doing a huge amount of tunnel. I'm lucky in that there's been probably about 7 or 8 of us doing the same thing so we get to do some great jumps as we are all about the same level. If you don't have the resources and a tunnel close by then it'd be very difficult to progress. The standard is just so high these days. When I had not as much time and jumps in the bigger group jumps would be inaccessible, mainly due being able to stay in control safely.
  9. I'll definitely vouch for Martin, he's a top notch guy! I took public transport - it's very easy to get around and really cheap. Saves money for beer
  10. If you can fly to Manchester airport then the tunnel's only 15 minutes away. It's right next to the Trafford Centre so public transport to the tunnel is very available. If you do decide to fly in Manchester then pay a coach as they get tunnel at the cheapest rates and the coach+tunnel cost is lower than the walk in rate. Manchester gets a lot of italians coming here to train. The other option if you have to take air transport is Skydive Arena in Prague - the walk in rate there is cheaper than the bulk cheapest rate available in the UK. Their sister tunnel in Slovakia is even cheaper I believe. I'll PM you some contact details if you wish. It's the same technology as the tunnel in Empuriabrava if you've flown there. Flights within the EU are super cheap these days - we flew from Leeds to Prague for about 140 euro return each and these weren't the cheapest flights available.
  11. Did you mount these on the inside of your G3 or the outside? I'm thinking of also using some form of comms for the tunnel and it'd have to be held within the helmet for tunnel use. Cheers Adam.
  12. I'm looking at this bluetooth headset that fits inside a full face motorcycle helmet here Has anyone got experience of this in a G3 or other full face? Has anyone used anything similar that they could recommend or had experience of? Do these systems really work? Thanks all.
  13. I do 20-30 mins/week once per week in one day. Friends of mine do the same but split over 2 consecutive days. Unless you're tunnel fit, the last few rotations can be pretty tough and you don't get as much benefit from them as at the start. Don't do any more than 10mins in one session and leave at least an hour between sessions. If you can organise it with the tunnel, try to have 2 mins in then 4 mins out to review footage and rest. Airkix were doing a deal, 20mins/day for 7 consecutive days (i.e. 140 minutes) for USD850 which was a total steal. One of my friends went from flying head down pretty solidly to just about getting outface nailed in that time.. so basically the intensive tunnel camp does work if you can afford it (or you live so close to the tunnel you can pick up offers like this..)
  14. Possibly a tension knot. Those in the know will probably be along soon...
  15. My wife has a pair and I have a pair of JVC noise-cancelling headphones. The Bose ones were twice the cost for sure but for air travel the Bose ones were much much better.
  16. As long as all your kit matches.... who cares
  17. You get spoiled for coffee in Oz though. Very expensive now (or maybe that's just the exchange rate ) but damn you guys do it right. The home of the flat white I believe (?) Edited to add: Oh dear. You're from NZ (but BPA licence so you're from the UK??) sorry. Hope I didn't offend you
  18. Haha.. There are some great craft beers in the 'States if you're willing to look for them. My fave commonly-available one is Blue Moon. Very citrusy. Yum.
  19. There are so many tunnels on the site now that when one gets added its hard to find it. Can the list be sorted so we can sort by date added? Thanks
  20. It's a stroke of genius that someone update Wikipedia making Tim Howard the US secretary of defense. Well played last night. If there's an example of tenacity and determination it's the us team.
  21. If you're feeling ambitious, download some 3d software called blender - you can create 3d models like a stick man and then rotate him to whatever angle you want and use screenshots of that as you need. It might take you some time though.. fun to do however.
