I wasn't trying to flash on this jumper, I was just trying to point out that complacency is deadly. Your friend did get lucky, but he still fucked up. There is no difference between a first timer going in due to improper rigging than a highly experienced jumper going in do to improper rigging except that the latter should KNOW better. i have seen that video. scary! I check everything before and after packing. pins, pc attachment and bridle attachment. 3 ring system, cutaway handle firmly in place. etc. i just dont understand the complacency.

how do you do this. accidentally. you should know whats in your rig, how its packed, what pc your using. people die this way. not a flame but your friend needs to pay more attention to detail.

I am a nor-cal kid, we've never met. I know a few people that have gone hand held from said object. Sometimes it is STRONGLY recommended, other times lightly suggested to do as a beginner. Its all based on experience. I did my first 2 jumps off of the NRGB at BD hand held. Its higher, a little safer, and a lot more daylight (which from your photos you are well familiar with). "Dorkier" or whatever, when jumpers do what they think is best for them, then it is. I don't like that this photo was publicly announced, but its still a BASE jump. Just because you have more balls than brains (based on your insightful posts), well I'm a happier dork. Nic also-- delete the object name from your post please.

On one hand I see and understand your use of words. I strongly (as I'm sure most of us (BASE jumpers) do), but in terms of what is best for our NP's, the more people preserving, educating, and protecting OUR wild lands is of far more importance to me than a jump. Or a thousand jumps. To me Yosemite has been preserved to a point that J. Muir has been in a constant rotation in his grave for the better half of the last century. His conservation efforts were not intended so that MAN can experience it, but that NATURE can thrive in it. WE are NOT the target benefactors, rather we benefit upon great ideas. Thank You J. i HIGHLY doubt the sudio would let a star of Cruise's caliber to BASE. Skydive, they probably would let slide. But if something went wrong, just immagine the heads that would roll. no clue on his skydive #, but he is an accomplished pilot.

If this thread gets deleted that is in no way proof that Tom called in the rangers to stop the event. It might be that a concerned wild life watcher is concerned with falcon habitat and didn't want to confront a larger group of guys that huck themselves off of cliffs on skis. Could be a lttle intimidating. Maybe the FS reads these forums when they are having sleepovers at NPS rangers houses and saw that the well advertised (in dates and spec. sites) that they took it upon themselves to check out what the fuck people are doing out there. You guys need to bring a little more to the table, in terms of proof, in order to seem credible. Tom has his faults, yes he is not perfect. Neither are you, and I know for a fact I really am not. I agree, however its not absolute. Body position and possibly packjob still MAY have been factors. But the PC is most likely the cause. glad he's OK.
