  1. What size reserves do people who fly sub 100 mains generally use? Lets just say, I see A LOT of small containers that look like they couldn't hold anything larger than a 120 reserve.
  2. I grew up in seattle. Nice to see you have some good weather.
  3. What about this helmet?..... http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/409.html I've seen a lot of jumpers with these and I don't see any snag points. How is this dangerous?
  4. I don't think anything could be as fun as that looks!
  5. I've opened it under canopy, didn't notice any drawbacks. The key is to have it completely open, or completely shut. It sounds like some people are opening or closing it 3/4's of the way. That would make it harder to see.
  6. Very funny post. I guess the problem is that so many people claim to "own their own business". In fact, most of the time it is some chessy get rich quick scheme like you described. It is the same situation when people start talking about their income. Whenever you hear a figure thrown out, you can almost bet they make less than half that. It's just the way people are, especially in Los Angeles! Don't take it personally when people doubt you. Maybe a new Lexus will have them convinced.
  7. Interesting....I make it a point to pull the visor all the way down (till it stops clicking). This way, the visor has nowhere left to go if you land hard.
  8. I like the Darth Balls look much better than Vader! Yah, it's big, but very comfortable! The flip up visor really comes in handy because you can talk to people seconds before jumping, just flip the visor down! I've seen videos of myself in freefall with other "full facers". It doesn't look bigger in freefall. edited to add: The locking mechanism for the visor is the best I've seen.
  9. If you plan to freefly with a Dolphin, I would ask your rigger what upgrades it needs to be safe.
  10. When you think about the deployment process and how a small ball of nylon and string become this gliding wing in 3 seconds, it is amazing they function as reliably as they do.
  11. I don't really care if he gets cancelled. He is washed up. His shit isn't original anymore. He's doing the same shit he did 10 years ago!
  12. I just watched the video, man, that is a low toggle turn! Looked painful!
  13. Since my Main was packed within the last 120 days, do I have anything to worry about? I haven't jumped in a month and I don't feel like repacking it. Legally, I understand it is a 120 day limit just like the reserve. How long does it take for the ZP to start getting sticky?
  14. A few years of electronics in high school and college. Also an Associates Degree in Audio Production. Being a Sound Engineer, I work with electronics all day, putting out fires I.E. ground buzzes, shorts, repairing amps, consoles, speakers. I've also built a ton of computers. I believe I also said that I was no expert on static electrical theory. There isn't much to it. An altimeter measuring barometic pressure(altitude) measuring the rate of change(speed) determines a preset activation. Remember...the FXC1200 did all of this without computer chips or batteries! scott
  15. Does anyone have any real ideas about why this is happening? Static Electricity? please! While Static electricity can fry sensitive electronic components, I don't see how this can happen on an AAD. I have a technical background. While I'm not an expert, I know that the plastic display window helps shield static electricity as well as the hard outer casing on the display unit. My computer (which I built) doesn't crash every time I slide it on the carpet out from under my desk. The cypres 2's display problems in my opinion, (and this is only my opinion) is the result of a short in the display from bad workmanship/quality control. Why do I think this? Notice that only a handful of Cypres 2's have this problem. If it were static electricity, all of them would have had this problem by now. Thankfully, in the case of the cypres2, it's only a minor inconvenience. With all the technology we have, it is difficult to understand why Vigil is misfiring on the ground. How hard is it to build such a simple device.
  16. I knew a guy who bought a used rig that was black/blue and had this Peach color along the sides. He didn't like the Peach so he took a sharpie and colored it in. When he got it out into the sun, you could see all the pen strokes and that it was peach underneath! It looked worse than if he had done nothing at all.
  17. Ha! I paid $700 dollars in taxes this year!
  18. I use my Havok. The visor is pretty secure because of the ski boot style teeth on the top.
  19. Ever watch a big way formations with 50+ people? The break off at the end involves some pretty insane tracking!
  20. Interesting, I would have thought that the power would simply be cut off or it would turn off without warning. A misfire caused by a loss of power? Sounds like a ticking time bomb!
  21. could someone explain what happened with this? What black wire?
  22. Too funny! Learn to pack please! Doesn't she know that part of the fun in skydiving is looking for lost treasure! i.e. lost freebags and mains! Compared to this jumper, I look like prince fucking charming. I've spent hours looking for freebags that don't even belong to me!! It's fun! I'm suprised this actually happened at Perris!, I was just using it as an example in Post #2. My opinion is that she should pay dealer cost, not full retail. I'm sure Square 1 gets a pretty good dealer discount. scott
  23. What are you talking about? Anyway....Air Adventures West in Taft,CA closed down. That is where I learned. Will Renfore (the DZ owner) is now running a school out of Cal City. Sounds like a better deal for him anyway...all he has to do is purchase slots on the Otter. Bigger profit margin, lower overhead.
