  1. Ya, now that Elsinore is the cheaper drop zone... I'll probably start jumping there more often. The point I'm trying to make with this thread is simple. When do you draw the line? When tickets go up to $25? $30? per jump. Right now it doesn't seem like too many people care. I've sent an e-mail to the DZ owner at Perris about my concerns. That is about all I can do.... You can't tell me that inflation is so bad right now that you need to raise the cost $3 bucks per jump! maybe over the course of 10 years but not in 2 months! scott
  2. Hay wait a second!!!!!! I broke my leg up at Perris!! Where is my free Tandem? scott
  3. I don't think they make an altimeter that is so precise it can tell when you are 10 feet AGL about to flare.... scott
  4. Free Tandems for life?.........after breaking a neck? I guess thats one way to prevent a lawsuit! scott
  5. Is this Rosa from AAWest? Why would you not want to post good news? If there is any good news about AAWest, I would like to hear about it! You can P.M. me if you want... scott
  6. Why did Air Adventures West close?..... AIR ADVENTURES WEST DID NOT CLOSE DOWN BECAUSE WE GOT 14K AGL!!!! Will was just providing us will a better service than Perris or Elsinore period! I've heard reasons why from both Will Renfoe (Air Adventures West DZ owner). As well as Dave Chrouch (DZ owner of Skydive Taft) who is good friends w/ the land owners who kicked Will off the land. I really don't want to get into reasons why the DZ got shut down because I don't know the hard facts. I've heard a lot of rumors from both sides in this dispute....I don't know who is lying!! scott Hope AAwest reopens sooooon!!!!
  7. Well, I wouldn't mind paying the extra money if I was getting a little somthing extra. Maybe they could get us up to 13.5K instead of 12.5K that would be worth the extra 3 bucks. Sometimes Perris takes us up to 13.5K if there is some important RW or CRW team on our load. I miss Air Adventures West in Taft, because we would get 14K! As far as Perris being a home....I disagree.... the place is so big! You get lost in the mix over there. I do like it for other reasons though. scott
  8. Well, I broke my leg at 93 jumps! on July 1st! I want to get my C licence really bad!! before the Sept 30th deadline. I get my cast off on Aug 12th, so I should be able to squeeze 7 jumps in, and take the test in time... I hope!!!! scott
  9. OK you think I'm whinning? On Saturday, Perris had over 100...yes! 100 tandem students! in one day! Short training, no skills learned by the tandem student, just pure profit $209 per student x 100 = $20,900 plus the profit from video ect... Perris does pretty well for itself, the 2 million dollar wind tunnel speaks for itself! The cost of fuel is coming down... The economy sucks, people are making less money, why do we need to pay more for jump tickets? Shouldn't it be the other way around? -just whinning- Scott
  10. HI, As I am coming close to getting my cast off from my broken leg, I decided to go up to Perris to watch people jump and hang out..... I noticed that the jump ticket prices used to be $16 dollars to 12.5k on weekdays. It was the best deal in Southern California! Then they added a $1 dollar surcharge if you wanted to use your credit card. I feel this is very unprofessional...I shouldn't have to pay their credit card fees! Now 2 weeks later..... they raised the tickets to $19 dollars on weekdays and $21 dollars on weekends. So in one month, they jacked the cost up 3 bucks per jump.....isn't that a bid harsh? I don't wan't to sound cheap....but what is my motivation to jump on weekdays and wait for slow loads? I feel like this is being done because they are building a wind tunnel and are short on cash. Just venting! Scott
  11. Thats great.....but you actually have until September 31st to submit your paper work. scott
  12. I would run! I would never sell a rig to someone overseas. The whole thing sounds really shady! scott

    Altitron

I have one!!!! I don't have any trouble seeing it during the day... It's actually more visble than the ALTI's because instead of a needle, it shows a pie! It's very high contrast. But never ever use this thing for a night jump!!!!! you will be screwed!!! OK to turn on/off hold top button. It will self calibrate to zero. to adjust warning alititude, hold top and bottom buttons at the same time until it flashes, then use top and bottom buttons to adjust warning altitude. I have mine set to 3K. If you are landing at a different altitude than where you are taking off then you need to hold both the top and bottom bottons again....as if you were adjusting your warning altitude....but this time hold the bottons LONGER and it will skip past the warning altitude setting. the needle will be flashing 0.... use the top and bottom bottons to enter your LANDING ALTITUDE. when your jump is finished, you can check your jump alitude and your deployement altitude by holding the bottom button. Hold it, and it will show your jump altitude, hit the bottom button a second time and it will show the deployment altitude. scott
  14. These jumpers got charged with "Conspiracy"? God I hate this stupid country!!!!!!!! Park Rangers act like they own the land as if it were their back yards!!!! What sort of penalty/jail time will they face?? Scott
  15. wow, I guess I should get the hard housings, they aren't too expensive....so screw it, I 'll get them installed on my next repack cycle. In fact, I'm also getting the reseve pin cover replaced with a better one that has tuck tabs... the old one has a broken stiffiner and pops out when I sit fly..... I'll ask about the capped riser housings also when I call R.I. Thanks for the advice everyone....damn what a bizzarre thing to go wrong on your rig!!! Thanks, Scott Jaco A-42434
  16. yep, the RSL is on my Left riser, why is it that the RSL riser should release after the right riser? scott
  17. trimming the cut away cables? I noticed that the right riser releases about 1 1/2 inches before the left riser releases! should the left cut away cable be trimmed a bit? Thanks, Scott
  18. yep, I have...what is you're point? like I said before.. how does that pinch the housings which start beneath the 3-ring? scott
  19. I just bought a used '94 Talon. I'm pretty happy with it...... One jumpmaster suggested I get the hard cut away housings. I did some research and I really don't want to bother because the soft housings look neater and less bulky... I've been reading all the threads on this website and people seem to think they are some kind of death trap! I'm a novice skydiver but that seems a bit harsh... I spoke with Brenda at Rigging Innovations and she said "if you're happy with it, don't bother" (tearing apart you're rig to fit the larger metal housings).... She suggested that I suspend the risers and do some practice cut aways on the ground..... I did this and the cables slide out quite nicely... they don't catch on anything and there is pleanty of slack in the housings...even when the risers are pulled tightly above my head. After reading about the so called problems....I can only guess that either the cut away cables were not routed properly around the neck, (my talon has a channel through the reserve flap for this..) if you don't know it's there, you could miss it. Or...maybe the hard cut away was because of massive line twists that were pinching the cut away channels ON THE RISERS?... (In which case you would have a hard cut away regardless of what kind of housing you have on the rig!) It sounds like it would be better to spend money on having hard housings installed on the risers....where the pinching would take place during a malfunction. What malfunction exists that would pinch the soft cut away housing on the rig itself? (between the handle and the 3-ring?) If it ain't broke... Don't fix it.... I'm told that Talons have better soft housing than the Javalins becuse they use Kevlar in thier housings. Maybe some more experienced skydivers/riggers could give me some more insight into this subject. Thanks, Scott Jaco
