  1. I agree totally, I feel this jet will set a new standard for dropzones in America. It's about setting a standard that other dropzones can follow. Yesterday, to have a good dropzone, you needed a C-182. Today, you need a turbine aircraft. Tommorow, you will have to have a jet like Perris. I think it is great to see that level of progression in this sport.
  2. Yah, I've been hearing about the DC-9 for about a year now. I'm sure they started the paperwork a long time before they actually got the aircraft. I never realized that a special certificate was required in order for skydivers to be able to even open the door of any airplane in flight. As far as the question earlier about weather Perris has enough jumpers to support such an aircraft? Well, I think on Weekends, definatly! Weekdays, we generally have at least 1 otter turning loads nonstop and another otter on standby. The wind tunnel has generated more traffic. With a DC-9, it will crush the competition.
  3. It's Skydiving bro. The Pilots and the FAA alike hate us. Skydivers are at the bottom of the food chain. I would imagine anything they do for us is a favor. Maybe Perris could grease the wheels a little bit, maybe a bribe of some kind?
  4. Why wasn't his reserve "air worthy"? What happened when he used it?
  5. One thing I want to mention again in Airtec's defense is that this display problem is only in a handful of Cypres 2 units. I say again, I've owned a Cypres 2 since August 2003 and have done many jumps in one day without ever having it go blank. If it ever happens, I'll send it in on my next repack. Hell, I paid $1,200 bucks, it better work! I just don't want people to be afraid to buy the new Cypres 2 because they work great!
  6. Perhaps this is the problem. I forgot to mention that BoneHead composites is right across the street from Perris Valley. (my home DZ) When I was checking out the Havok, we went through 4 different pad configurations before I found one that fit perfectly. The head and chin are interchangable. I eventually went with all medium sized pads. Being at the factory, I was able to tweak with it till I found the right combination of pads, chinstrap ect. Your friend sounds like he just ordered a size, waited and hoped for the best. Do you know that you can bake the pads in the oven to fit better? Has your friend tried this?
  7. Dude, If your display is going blank, send it in on your next repack cycle! Simple. Aparently the problem is only in a few units. Not all cypres 2's have this problem. I've done up to 6 jumps in one day without any problem. I always check. Just on principal, I would send it in if it ever started happening.
  8. OK stop right there! This tells me that his helmet is WAY to big for him. This guy must be really small! I've never had air seep up under my chin guard. once again, my helmet fits me correctly, thats why I can see my handles. Edited to remove personal attack. Please avoid them. All "full face" helmets have that little "blind spot" due to the chin guard. It's the price of having a full face. Practice your emergency procedures if you have any doubts!
  9. Interesting, when I was trying out full face helmets, I got the Havok because it offered greater visability of my handles. It was a big selling point. Try the Oxygen A3 then the Havok. I found the Havak to be a little easier to see my handles and much much better than the Bonehead boomerang. It sounds like this guys chin guard is way to big for him or maybe he just needs smaller pads? p.s., the Havok is the most comfortable helmet you will ever wear. scott
  10. If leave the nose open and 1/4 the slider YES you will have a fast opening. If you roll the nose and pull the slider out in front of the nose, this should solve the problem.

So I would assume that a Base opening (slider down) feels like an extreamly hard opening on a skydiving rig?
  12. Corona with a lime baby!
  13. I am happy to see that most people voted "DZ attitude" as the most important factor in chosing a dropzone. I am realizing that customer service really is important to me.

Wow, why do you think he go disoriented from opening shock? This guy had 2000 jumps? seems odd. Are the opening shocks pretty severe?

Thanks for the info, I guess Basic Research comes to mind because I jump at Perris most of the time and BR is down the street.
  16. Thats a good idea, thanks for putting the site back up. I know what a f--ing hassle its been! You could PM the secret password to get into the site. Only make it available to DZ.com'ers! good luck, scott

I'm probably going to learn to Base Jump this year. I'm going to take the BR first jump course. It looks like they have a pretty safe way of teaching the sport. The bridge looks like it has plenty of margin for error. Spanways seem pretty forgiving compared to Earth or Building since you can get away with an off heading opening.
  18. Sure jumping out of an airplane at 13 thousand feet isn't dangerous at all. Very funny to compare skydiving being a pastime? It's a lifestyle. People die in skydiving for different reasons than in Base Jumping. I don't think one is safer than the other, except for the fact that skydivers have time to use their reserves. Other than that, skydiving is every bit as dangerous as BASE. It is like comparing apples and oranges!

That anti skydiving viewpoint cracks me up! I don't know why anybody would base jump without a few skydives. To me, thats suicidal!
  20. LOL!! You aren't going to get the reserve wet by brushing the container with a damp rag! It is inside of a freebag that doesn't let water soak through. Even if a little bit did, it wouldn't hurt it.
  21. 1)When you get your "A" license 2)When you get your own rig. I think this is important because when you own your own rig, it shows that you have made an investment and more importantly, it gives you the freedom to jump anywhere you want without worrying about weather or not the DZ has good rental gear. scott
  22. OK, when you finish packing, is the indicator window still green on your bridle? Then it works! Toss your PC in the air and see if it catches air before slipping it into your BOC. I somtimes give the PC a little extra cocking after I put the Dbag into the container.
  23. I really don't care anymore. Howard Stern was interesting about 7 years ago. When he had that "Private Parts" movie and the Miss America book. He was at the top of his game and everyone supported him. Things went bad after he got divorced. A big part of his "persona" was that he was this piece of shit of a human being except the fact that he was married to a women that (for some reason) loved him and had children, this made him an OK guy, a family man who was just doing an act. Now he cheats on his wife, gets divorced and is basically a 50 something dirtbag. His material is just boring now, if you listen to his program or watch his tv show, they are all the same! He is no longer relevant or cutting edge, that is why I don't care if he gets pulled off the air. I've lived in Los Angeles for 5 years and I never listen to him on the radio. He just seems like a hasbeen. I think that is the real reason he is getting pulled off the air. If he still had the same support he did 7 years ago, I guarantee he would not be going through this. scott
  24. Take a damp rag or towel and wipe the dirt off. You don't have to let the dirt stay on there, especially on the leg strap!
  25. Generally I don't talk to students. If I do, I'm careful of what I say to them. It was a weekday and there were just a few of us hanging around waiting to jump. It was not a stressful day. I was one of the DZ's biggest supporters because of Mike Mullins King Air. I would drive and hour each way to Bakersfield Airport just to pick up some German skydivers who were visiting the area. It made me so mad, This is the thanks I get? My only regret is I can't jump out of Mikes plane anymore I feel better now that I'm telling you about this. I haven't told anyone about this incident until now and its been kinda eating at me. Thanks for listening!
