  1. There really is no point in elimination Talk Back. All that will happen now is people will start posting more in "General Skydiving Discussion" which will now be really busy.
  2. Of course I don't want to see you quit! When you quit, it is reminding me of all the insecurities I have about the sport. The post was meant to shake things up and make you really think about why you are quitting. This latest post pretty much explains your reasons, what with the mortgage and buisness. I respect those reasons. I DON'T THINK YOU ARE WEAK!! You are placing your work ahead of your sport and I feel bad that you a making such a black and white decision about it. "selling your gear" and "no longer posting on DZ.com" You are cutting off your comunity. Sorry if I sounded like a dick. I hope you reconsider. Don't let the Cristopher Reeve book scare you!
  3. Of course because you have a different opinion. Am I slamming this guy? I'm only trying the help him realize that there are too many positves in this sport to simply STOP, sell his gear. LMFAO! Sure, I guess I should wait until I have 3000 jumps! nice attitude.
  4. Very impressive disection of my post but the other posts that you listed.... about the DC-9 jet and about the Havok helmet really don't have a lot to do with this post and should stay seperate. You are welcome to disagree with what I have to say but reposting threads that you don't like is irrelevant. Stick to the topic. Also, the comment I made about the guy bouncing was well justified if you read the entire thread. Very impressive attempt to make me look bad! Keep up the good work!!
  5. LOL! Did I say that? read my post again.
  6. Dear Encinoadam, I read your 2 posts in this thread and I have to say that I have a difficult time understading your attitude and to be honest I think you are being weak by making this decision. I don't think you are being completely honest with us as to why you are quitting. You keep mentioning the injury aspects. I don't buy it. There is somthing else going on thats tweaking you out..... For example, why won't you post on DZ.com anymore? there are a lot of non active skydivers that still post on here. I myself have spent time in the hospital and on crutches due to a broken leg. Get health insurance. You will have plenty of time to rest when you are dead. Quitting now is an insult to the people who can no longer jump for reasons beyond their control. You still have the choice that many dead/injured no longer have. Once a skydiver always a skydiver. I know you will come to your senses when a few months go by, you're bored with you life/job and you need an escape. It is then you will realize what you have given up. I hope you get your shit together and quit feeling sorry for yourself. I hope to see you then. Good Luck..... Scott
  7. Hard pull AND a bag lock?? Did the jumper pack the rig himself? if so, it's his responsiblity to pack the rig properly. After an injury a while back, I temorarilty upsized with a rented rig from Square1. It was spelled out in the contract that I signed that I pay for the repack of the reserve, cypres cutter, lost freebag and main canopy. The mains that Square 1 has are in really good shape. I was careful to pack properly, I even asked a couple of questions since the bridle routing on this Javlin Odessey is a little different than on my Talon. My point? Yah I really feel bad for the guy who has to pay $2200 bucks. That seems a little steep. They need to work somthing out since you say the main had 1000's of jumps on it. He shouldn't pay full retail. However the freebag/reserve pilot chute has to be custom made for that container buy the manufacturer. Just off the top of my head...... Reserve repack $50 New freebag/pilotchute $250 Used Sabre w/ 500 jump $600 Handles? $50? The whole thing should cost less than a $1000 bucks! I would dispute the charges.
  8. Thanks for the details. This story is insane!! That is assult with a deadly weapon (his car). There is no way he will get away with this.
  9. I think there is a little more to this story. People don't just run each other down with their cars. How exactly did he get hurt? edited to add: If this is as black and white as you say it is, I'm sure that Farmer McNasty would have death warrent on his head from the other skydivers at the dropzone.
  10. I grew up in Seattle. I was happy to leave. When I visited a while back, the "dot com" industry colapsed and it seemed much more laid back. Not so fast paced. Boeing workers were always going on strike every 6 months for this or that!
  11. Just be glad you are cool enough to be skydiving in the first place. I can't imagine what it would be like for farmer boy, looking up and seeing all the fun we are having!! Thats why they are pissed because they've are too busy tending the sheep and goats! A chopped main landing in their yard is like shoving their face in it!
  12. It is funny how the old cypres is becoming more expesive used because of the price increase of the Cypres2. You should just fork over the cash and get a brand new one that will last 12 years!
  13. There was a post earlier that said that the actual cost of the components to build a cypres were less than $100. I understand there is labor, overhead and advertising. My point is that cost doesn't mean a better product. Perception of quality due to high price? maybe.
  14. LOL! great! have a good time. Since I stopped jumping there, I don't have to whine anymore!
  15. If you look at the mechanics of an AAD, it's basically a highly calibrated altimeter with a cutter and a chip to run it all. Yet it costs as much as a computer. That bothers me. I think $400 or $500 would be much more reasonable.
  16. Most DZ's don't require them. About half the jumpers at Perris have them. The other half can't afford them but still want to skydive.
  17. Well, nobody....except the people who want the Vigil or the FXC Astra. At some point, if it goes past $1,500 new skydivers will simply not use one. You can't put a price tag on your personal safety but yet here we are!
  18. I put a post up a while back explaining the details. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=963258#963258
  19. OK, could someone please tell me what the hell this whole controversy is about?#$% Who is suing who? For what? and why? What does packinkathy opening her own dropzone have to do with all this? Thank you, scott
  20. I know the exchange rate sucks right now but Cypres is going to price themselves right out of the market!
  21. Ahh Thank you Mr. Booth. It is great to hear the V-man himself take my side in this somewhat senseless debate! Thank you! I also must apologize on behalf of my skygod brother (and good friend) "DGSKYDIVE" for his inflammatory posts that would rival the dialog of a 1980's Twisted Sister video Does that angry DAD ring a bell? My brotha is just hungry for knowledge. I as well! Thank you! scott
  22. I went up there the first 2 months Mike Mullins was up there. I used to be a huge supporter of that dropzone.
  23. Yah, I drive like a lunatic on the way to Perris. I'm in such a hurry to get out there. On the drive back, I take it easy. I once got a $300 dollar ticket on the way to taft! Fucking PIG got me with radar going the other direction. I now own a radar detector, and I use backroads.
  24. I paid around $1,200 for mine.
