1 pointOne thing that I thought was remarkable was how much a recent right wing gun-rights rally was bragging that there were no shootings during the rally. America - where "not one shooting at our rally!" is a newsworthy event to be proud of.

1 pointyou can make that claim, but it seems to make more sense to say that more democrats voted republican in this one since they identified with trump and/or believed that he would make a difference as he was not a politician. that was the excuse i heard most; that they are all corrupt anyway, may as well give him a chance. i couldn't in good faith vote for either of them. deez nuts for the win. he would have done a better job too.

1 pointYou look really stable, especially for only having a few jumps under your belt. As mentioned just go with the flow and you will do fine

1 pointYes, it's only logical that God's good grace be extended to even the simplest of us all, even you. Remarkable. I shit you not, I was hoping to use that as my next example of possible "mental illness." - along with base jumping. Some of us just need a bit more to get off on life. Again, God's good grace is extended to us all, not just the intelligent.

1 pointDamn right. And all because a few serial killers are, well never mind. Back to Turtle News where we ask hard questions about our own hard questions about why you ask hard questions.

1 pointHa! Great analysis, thanks! (and as you wrote, only Jerry can say if that's what it was) Myself, I thought the "which is understandable" made pretty clear what I meant. I would like to offer a suggestion: What if we just discussed the actual topics and--if we had to make any assumptions at all--we simply make the assumption that the other person meant whatever they said in the best possible way...or in any case simply not veered off into these side-discussions about style and assumed intentions? They simply distract from the topic. Personally I think the thread is confusing because of these kinds of distractions. It is hard enough to communicate in a useful way when people are coming from very different angles at an issue. And NO!!!!!!!!!!! By the above paragraph I do not mean to say "You are all idiots and can't even stay on topic, and I am the only one who is staying on topic" Hey, eventually we may even become aware of these pesky images that we tend to form in our minds of others (or in our brains, as some would say) , usually based on one or two opinions we read from them (which most likely we didn't even fully understand); images like: "trump supporter", "libtard", "religious nut", "conservative", "typical atheist" "probably a Bernie supporter", etc. ...all standing in the way of actually hearing what that person is saying RIGHT NOW about this SPECIFIC TOPIC --and we can try to hear past those made up images? No? Too much to ask? Yeah, probably...I can't really do that so well either!

1 pointIf I may be so bold as to respond for Jerry, his single line quote of you makes it clear what he found insulting: quote: (You may not have followed the entire discussion, which is understandable) By that line, you meant: "You have obviously not followed the entire discussion. The discussion is not easy for anyone to follow because it is so fragmented, so even though you are an intelligent person, the messy format of this thread caused you to miss a few points" But Jerry read it as: "You have obviously not followed the entire discussion. It is a straightforward set of posts, but because you are stupid, I would not have expected you to be able to follow it." ------------- we will see if Jerry agrees with my read...

1 pointWe just stick with eating very little processed food. Sometimes canned beans when I don't feel like making fresh, and we do eat crackers with cheese before dinner (yeah, crackers count as processed food), and chocolate after. We've been eating like this for at least 15 years, and, frankly, we're both on the high end for overall health, particularly at our age (mid 60's). Food is what we're made of. I favor the thinking process of Michael Pollan, without resorting to a "system." We evolved eating whatever was handy and slowest-moving, and eating less-processed foods means that our bodies have to work a little harder to digest it. In general, "use it or lose it" seems to work for a lot of things, including muscles and flexibility. Wendy P.

1 pointAlso see Dr. Joel Furhman's "Eat to Live." The information in the book was quite interesting, but the recipes in the back (and yes, I also bought the full cookbook) were quite time- and ingredient-intensive. Many also didn't taste good enough to make all the work worth it. I do regularly go back to some, such as the taco salad. Although I add a bit of shredded cheese to mine. Almost two years ago now I tried Whole30. That did the trick for me -- more energy, excellent sleep, weight loss, lower blood pressure and cholesterol. I even started to lose the ridges in my fingernails. It's a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, no dairy, but plenty of lean meat and fish (as well as eggs). I don't find I really eat a lot of meat, but I'm definitely not close to fully plant-based. I do use milk/cream in cooking, and still enjoy more moderate servings of cheese. On the Whole30 side, I still clarify my own butter (unless I'm baking, and then it all goes out the window anyway!). I have permanently reduced my intake of sugar, grains and alcohol from that experience. I've picked up some great snacking habits as well (lots of hard-boiled eggs, dates, clementines, almonds and raw veggies as snacks instead of chips, crackers or protein bars). Hmm... maybe it's time to do another 30 days. It's been awhile!

1 pointI just put two racks of back ribs in the oven 10 minutes ago. Dry rub, 250 degrees for 3 hours. I'll skip the salmon salad today.

1 pointMy wife and I are on week 2 of eating completely plant based. We decided to try one week, but felt so good after the first week that we decided to go another week. Surprised at how good I feel and how much energy I have. And that is eating at a caloric deficit.

1 pointThat Joker is from near my hometown. He’s been wanted here for a few months now. They’ve been looking in your country because they know he went there to be with his brethren. The Canadian military has more than it’s fair share of white nationalists. We keep weeding them out as best we can.

1 pointHi Moms, Re: 'As of now, he's still on a heart and lung machine.' I hope that this does not portend bad news. 17 months ago I had triple bypass heart surgery and, after 7 hours on the table, I awoke to just some tubes still in me. I was up & walking, with help, the next day. Re: 'If you have anything to say to him that you want him to read when he gets out, go ahead and post to this thread.' Get better, from one old fart to another. Jerry Baumchen
