Dems...what is it that scares you about Trump?

There is no EPA witch hunt against coal in Canada. Yet the mines keep closing. And the power plants keep converting. Far more coal miners have died from their jobs than police have killed and police dying on the job combined. I empathize with coal miners. Because they die young.

...people who've lost their jobs during the EPA's witch hunt against coal.

First, the main reason for the reduced demand for coal is that natural gas is abundant, cheaper than coal, and a more efficient energy source. Would you prefer that the government mandate that power companies use a more costly (as well as dirtier) fuel, and penalize the petroleum industry to favor coal?

Second, one person's "witch hunt" is another person's "protection of resources we all depend on to survive" (clean air, livable climate).

Should we also force manufacturers to continue using asbestos, despite the well-documented health risks, in order to protect jobs for asbestos miners? Maybe we should all be forced to smoke so tobacco farmers will have jobs.

I support making resources available for coal miners to train for different jobs. I support making resources available to help displaced miners start businesses, and providing incentives for businesses to set up in coal country, even though those activities basically constitute affirmative action for communities formerly dependent on coal. But, coal is a passing industry, it is not coming back and it is cruel to offer people the false hope that it is.

>So as a liberal someone needs to die to qualify for your empathy?

Yes, that's exactly what he said.

>As someone who constantly sticks up for the victim when someone is killed in a police shooting

So you conservatives think all victims deserve what they get? Even rape and murder victims? For shame!

The U.S. Energy Department said on Tuesday it will not comply with a request from President-elect Donald Trump's Energy Department transition team for the names of people who have worked on climate change and the professional society memberships of lab workers.

What concerns me about DJT is the mindset of the people who voted for him. Character, integrity, and common decency got moved way down on the list.

Like this:
"Some years ago, Mr Trump invited me to lunch for a one-to-one meeting at his apartment in Manhattan. We had not met before and I accepted. Even before the starters arrived he began telling me about how he had asked a number of people for help after his latest bankruptcy and how five of them were unwilling to help. He told me he was going to spend the rest of his life destroying these five people.

He didn’t speak about anything else and I found it very bizarre. I told him I didn’t think it was the best way of spending his life. I said it was going to eat him up, and do more damage to him than them. There must be more constructive ways to spend the rest of your life. (Hopefully my advice didn’t lead to him running for President!)

I was baffled why he had invited me to lunch solely to tell me this. For a moment, I even wondered if he was going to ask me for financial help. If he had, I would have become the sixth person on his list!

I left the lunch feeling disturbed and saddened by what I’d heard. There are a lot of frightening things about this election; not least that policy has been pushed so far down the agenda. What concerns me most, based upon my personal experiences with Donald Trump, is his vindictive streak, which could be so dangerous if he got into the White House. For somebody who is running to be the leader of the free world to be so wrapped up in himself, rather than concerned with global issues, is very worrying."

"Chris, there was an overwhelming science that the Earth was flat."

What a cunt! Anyone who says that 'scientists' believed the earth was flat only broadcasts that they have no idea what science is. Ignorant fuckers like him believed the earth was flat, while scientists figured out not just that it was round but approximately how big it was as well, over two and a half thousand years ago using nothing but a calendar, a stick and a sunny day.

The "beauty" of a private security force is they don't have to follow the same laws. I can't imagine that's going to go over well with his Secret Service guys though.

Laws? Since when have laws stopped Trump or his minions from doing whatever the hell they want?

And I don't see any conflict with the Secret Service. These goons won't be involved in protecting Trump or his family.

They are the ones who will go out and "deal with" anyone who says bad things about him.
I'd imagine they'd like to have a "talk" with Alec Baldwin.

Yes and when trump or the princelings have to meet with donors in "undisclosed" locations. Or when discussions have to take place regarding how much for what favor. Their loyalty will presumably on display whey they can't remember anything. When testifying before congress, a house committee on corruption. Or a court proceeding regarding racketeering.

Maybe we compromise - the Secret Service can beat up Baldwin.

I've heard he will have them wearing brown uniforms so they won't be mistaken for Secret Service.

And he needs to choose a snappy name for them, e.g. "Storm Front".
Oh wait, that name is already taken.
Maybe "Storm Detachment" will work.

trump and Goldman Sachs. It just gets better and better.

"Trump has made a number of Goldman alums close members of his inner circle.

Steve Bannon, the controversial former head of Breitbart News who took over Trump’s campaign and now serves as Trump’s chief strategist, spent time at Goldman before launching his own investment firm.

Trump’s pick to lead the Treasury Department, Steven Mnuchin, spent nearly two decades at Goldman before getting into the hedge fund business.

And most recently, Trump selected Gary Cohn, who was Goldman’s president and chief operating officer, to serve as the head of his National Economic Council."
http://thehill.com/policy/finance/311169-goldman-sachs-good-for-a-quarter-of-dows-trump-rally

and now

"CFTC fines Goldman Sachs $120 million for manipulating interest rate products ...
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission settled charges against Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., GS, -0.78% and its bank subsidiary for attempts beginning in January 2007 and continuing through March 2012 to manipulate and make false reports concerning the U.S. Dollar International Swaps and Derivatives Association Fix, a global benchmark for interest rate products. The CFTC press release said that Goldman's alleged unlawful conduct involved multiple traders, including the head of Goldman's Interest Rate Products Trading Group in the United States. The CFTC said that among themselves, Goldman traders described trades based on the manipulated USD ISDAFIX as being based on the "jacked price," as opposed to the "fair price"; remarked that other Goldman traders had "gamed the fix" in order to benefit related positions; and strategized how best to extract the "higher value" of USD ISDAFIX cash settlements against customers who lacked Goldman's insight, as a major swap dealer, into the process. Goldman initially did not cooperate with the investigation by failed to produce communications and documents that were potentially relevant to the inquiry. "

It looks as if the Washington Swamp will be filled before its drained. Certainly the Goldman Sachs boys can teach the princelings new more developed and professional techniques to grub money at the trough.

Trump has appointed South Carolina Republican Congressman Mick Mulvaney to direct the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Based on his track record in Congress, the US will default on the national debt and use Trump's proven method of dealing with debts: declare bankruptcy and stick it to your creditors.

I know you're writing in jest. But its surprising the number of trump supporters that have that exact view. They want a 350 ship navy. Want programs to bring back coal, US heavy industry and rebuild the infrastructure. Cut corporate taxes to repatriate offshore stranded earnings of US corporations. Cut personal taxes, etc. etc.

When I suggest the costs associated with this, all the borrowing needed and high current employment levels would drive wage inflation. When its pointed out that Obama, together with Republican house and senate members. Just spent $9 trillion in stimulus and QE. To get the US out of the last recession.
https://www.thebalance.com/national-debt-under-obama-3306293

The response in about 20-30% of trump supporters is to declare bankruptcy and therefor "stick it to China". Because China holds most of US bond obligations. When its suggested that the Japanese hold the majority of US foreign debt. That Japan is a friend of the US. Well that would just be too bad for them.

When I further point out that the majority of US debt is held by US citizens. "Widows and orphans" so to speak and retirees. That US pension funds would be crippled. That the US really can't do it.

I just get more trump speak. Thats all liberal, wall street bs. That bankruptcy is a really good option...Yikes.
