  1. I have been using a 32" non collapsible with a kill cone on my Storm 150. The kill cone needs a bit of work because it only half collapses the PC! I think if the canopy were any smaller then the drag would start to become a bigger issue, it is probably borderline as it is. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. 3. I truly doubt it. If you think Robi is the only one designing suits than you need to get your head out of your ass tony has blatantly copied, so has matt, not even mentioning the others, never seen a copy of robi's; funny how that is, isnt it? I am pretty sure that is how any product evolves over time.... Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. Try before You Buy with Wicked Wingsuits - WingsuitRental.com
  4. I expect a couple of quick lawsuits will put this kind of promotion to rest, even a guard isn't going to protect 100% against injury. I guess I am getting old because I want to scream "you're going to take an eye out with that!". I have a quad QX350 and am doing well to keep it under control outside where it has a GPS signal, not sure I would want to risk it inside with no GPS and a room full of drunk patrons! 6. I think Sebastian is a D license only for wingsuiting now, some people will need to take that into consideration. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. Try before You Buy with Wicked Wingsuits - WingsuitRental.com
  7. Agreed, which is part of why I question wearing them if you're going to remove them just before deployment. I am pretty sure on some of the more recent acro suits it is to keep the sleeve from going up the arm in some flight transitions. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! 8. I don't normally post over here but I have been searching for a quote I heard and I just know someone will know what I am talking about! I think it might be from the Art of War or similar. It is a quote about how 1 General leads 10 Colonels who leads 10 Majors who lead 10 Captains, etc etc, or something to that nature. It really describes how structure and delegation allows a single person to control an army. Anyone know the exact quote I am talking about? Thanks! 10. My experience is that I get more consistent and reliable skydive openings if I collapse prior to deploying. I had a couple of line twist cutaways and I think opening in full flight with a d-bag was the root cause. The equipment we use is still designed to open in a mostly vertical fall. Cut corners and all that certainly help but the dbag can spin up like a propellor before the canopy gets out of the bag. I did see an dbag from Velocity that has a "rudder" of sorts on it and I think that could be a big win. It was also stowless. My opinion = If you don't WS BASE then its better to collapse on a skydive. If you do WS BASE then its better to have a single muscle memory and should then always deploy in full flight. You can take your chances with a d-bag in that scenario of just take it off and add a TP to your canopy. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. 11. I think there is a different answer for someone about to "start" wingsuiting versus someone with a decent amount of wingsuit experience. An experienced wingsuiter can just go freepacked and open in full flight, no different than pulling out of the door of a king air or what base jumpers do every day. A student wingsuiter certainly needs a canopy in a bag as initial deployment speeds\orientation are going to be closer to freefall speeds than a real wingsuit deployment. I would ask your buddy to do a couple of slick skydives with the Lightning in a d-bag. If he isn't comfortable doing that then I don't think it is the right canopy for the first few wingsuit jumps. 12. Any idea who is still doing the Cessna 210-5 door STC where it is hinged at the top? I searched and found references to Canada but nothing recent for the US. I might have a 205 coming my way and want to get a time\price idea for converting the door. Thanks! Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. 13. I think there is a PF Examiner (Scotty Burns) over on the East Coast but there will be a TS Examiner in Z-Hills during your stay. End of April is Flock n Dock so you might find a few of both coming to that. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. 15. I wouldn't buy any wingsuit right now that you don't intend to fly. Designs are continuing to progress rapidly. Ditto on the travel advice. My first serious year of wingsuiting was spent bouncing around the country with the "tribe". You learn a lot quickly by leaving the local pond. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! 16. We rent them for $65 a month but have surprisingly little interest in the service so I don't think cost is what stops most people. They just prioritize the money elsewhere, some on jumps and some in the bar. We started it purely because a packer friend couldn't afford to buy one up front. 18. I don't know enough about stats but based on the number of friends I have lost over the years I would say it is "not safe". I wouldn't say it is very dangerous either, just not safe. 19. There is no need to "find out," it's already known in the field of aerodynamics for a very very long time. Weight does not affect absolute glide ratio. It does affect speed. Therefore it does affect relative glide ratio (which is influenced by speed). Of course with humans weight delta is usually accompanied by size delta, so that admittedly makes the situation less straightforward. A lot of smart people would actually tell you that aerodynamics are not fully understood. I am just a dumb one saying it. I suspect that is why NASA continues to research it. 20. Agree. And I'm working on it to provide this functionality on my web-applicationweb-application About perfomance - "wing load" is also major factor, so in same suits man who weights 150% from my weight will fly faster, but I'll get longer track. It will be interesting to record weights so that we can see how much of a difference it really makes. I don't think it is as much of a factor as I once thought but there is only one way to find out, real data instead of just opinions. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! 21. If the goal were to use the winds to create an accurate score then I would agree. I can't see that it would happen that way anyway, there is too much history in PPC that would have to be thrown away and there is an argument based on canopy flying where high altitude and favorable winds are used. All I am asking is for them to be recorded so I can see if a run was at a 10mph or 35mph tailwind. For that Winds Aloft are just fine. You know I think we are saying the same thing. You are saying don't compare results because they are not the same, I am saying if I knew the winds I could at least take it into account and make the comparison slightly useful. I believe we are in "violent agreement". Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. Try before You Buy with Wicked Wingsuits - WingsuitRental.com
  22. Winds aloft are also never accurate, especially not when taken from reports or forecast. You really believe that? I have had a pretty good success rate in both aviation and wingsuit navigation by using Winds Aloft. You might not see the value of including it in the results but that doesn't mean it isn't valuable. If the winds were even reported as part of the event then it allows a cross competition review of the numbers. I can take a guess that some results are due to uppers, but maybe they really weren't. I don't suggest they are included in the score at this time, that is too complex of a discussion. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. 23. I am hoping that one day PPC at least shows the winds aloft so that apples can be compared to apples. I would imagine on comp day they could be entered prior to each round. I heard of an even more exact solution using the FlySight similar to how the Avionics GPS calculates winds on the climb. I don't know if PPC will ever use the data to "handicap" the race but at least we could factor it into the comparisons. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month. 25. TS did acknowledge the weakness of the zipper innie-outie and switched to a cable laced system last season. Personally I had big problems with the zippers and refused to jump them. I like the cable system because it really "locks" the webbing\handles in place. I will have to try to post a photo. I still have heard that some rigs just don't work well with any innie-outie design, not a specific manufacturer but a personal size. It is a shame Tony doesn't do a better job of marketing because those that have flown the R2B2 or R Bird 2 think it is a great backfly suit, just most people don't know they exist! The R2B2 uses the innie-outie and the R Bird 2 keeps the traditional skydiving design where all the webbing is on the outside. Both rock on the back. There is a guy in Europe that has flown all 3 major backfly suits and I am hoping for an honest review of them. Summer Rental special, 5 weeks for the price of 4! That is $160 a month.
