  1. I know a few times--long ago--I broke Rule 4, but I cannot believe I am such a rule-folower otherwise. It makes sense, though. My conscience is the root of my insanity. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  2. Agree except for high schoolers. While I still traveled, I also worked for several weeks full-time during my summers, and I really believe having a full-time job during that period of time is important for several reasons. To name a couple: 1. Experience of working for another authority every day, even the beautiful beach days. 2. Inspiration to do well in college because no-one wants to do what they did in high school every day/all day the rest of their lives.* *Except me. If not for the mere $12/hour seasonal work, I would still be teaching kids to swim. It's the only money-paying work I have ever loved. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  3. Time does_not_heal all wounds. No, it has not made me happier. I would rather have had all "good times and noodle salad". Having said that, I_do_think ideally one should go without before having or having again because it makes for being less of an asshole afterward. 4. If it works, it is a fine size. I really have never understood the need to measure, and frankly I am of the position female orgasms depend more on the woman and her stuff than the man and his. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  5. I really like Dave Matthews and the DMB. What a fun company party! I actually am friends with one of the DMB's #1 fans of a DMB club; he gets priority seats and tickets for all of the shows and goes to quite a few of them and never misses Bonnaroo. We are invited all the time--probably should take him up on that finally.
  6. I mean I did frown and stick my lip out. And he did say, "Ohhhhhhh, poor baby", so he probably just felt bad. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  7. I use a straw for my iced venti--no holes. The only issue I had, was my aversion to using the "re-usable" straw that came with my venti to-go tumblers and not being able to find an acceptable throwaway straw to use everyday instead (since I make my iced-venti-three-pump-vanilla-almond-milk lattes at home. ) So, the Starbucks manager gave me a huge bag of venti straws with a sweet note attached that read, "Just for Carrie". I also have trouble with filling mine too full, though. I like four shots of espresso and sometimes I overestimate how much space my lid still will accomodate for when I screw it on and my espresso leaks down the side. 9. So then, what don't_I_get? Because, I think I agree with you. My position is if Americans do not eat horse meat, it is probably for the same reason Americans would not want our horses shipped away for inhumane capture/travel/slaughter to other nations that do. I am not advocating those who desire horse-meat to not eat a horse--though I never would--because it is not for me to tell anyone what to eat. Morally, I_do_believe it is for me to express what is cruel and what is not and advocate the latter. I.e. if one wants horse-meat, it can (and should, imo) be humane and not full of shit. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  10. I agree almost entirely. What I was advocating in my original post was the opposition to the present conditions of horse-slaughter, specifically (and you, yourself stated) since there is not a substantiated market for horse-meat in the U.S., yet it is U.S. horses being slaughtered and the banning of that is what I advocated. 11. I am a woman. You said I pushed my stuff on you. If this forum were a bar, it would be a hilarious claim. But, if this forum were a bar, I never would have noticed. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  12. Yep, and so is dog meat. It might even make sense to eat dog, but what sort of dog-lover would eat dog lead-to-and-slaughtered under those same conditions? But, if the question is of "benefits" to humans, other than "sought after ingredient", I cannot see much of a benefit. Still, if someone wants horse or dog meat, that is fine by me; I just want it to be humane and not full of shit--literally, not soaked in shit. 13. "Reform" and "agenda" are not mutually exclusive. But you might be surprised to learn supporting animal welfare does not mean becoming a vegetarian/vegan (I am not advocating the latter, nor am I veg/vegan. While Wendy is a conscious-shopper, I just do not crave cows, pigs or birds anymore and choose not to specially order or pay more for what I would consider "edible" meat). My goal was to put something out there for those who might be interested. You chose to read, reply and whine about getting pushed by a woman. I still care about you though, and your health and hope you respond well to antibiotics despite your insistence on becoming immune to them. 14. Why not; I'm feeling frisky. Turtle. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  15. Agreed. While I have never had horse-meat, I have not eaten the other animals you mentioned in many years (and many years before that only sparingly) for that very reason. It is my position if you can get someone on board the desired path with horses, it becomes easier for them to understand the need for reform in other areas as well. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  16. But, that's control without slaughter! How can that be? "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  17. The non-killing--particularly the non-brutal killing--of large numbers of animals for food or otherwise. What do you consider to be "control"? "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  18. "Slaughter" and "control" are not mutually exclusive. Would you support control without slaughter? Would you favor humane control, inhumane control, or does it make no difference in your opinion? "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  19. Please help bring this issue to a vote. ASPCA Advocacy Alert "Tell your U.S. representative that you support H.R. 503 and would like him or her to sign Rep. Moran’s letter of support. The letter must be signed by tomorrow, September 21, so there is no time to lose—we urge you to call your rep.’s office today" If you would like more information, please read: HSUS Article including undercover video. 20. I definitely am. I have made trips to San Diego several times, and the first time I elected to stay in this "resort". Bathroom was small, dirty, antiquated with horrible water and worse lighting and the room was not much better. Service terrible. There were no bugs, though. My hunny went to a wedding once (I smartly elected not to go with him as there were several red flags) and the hotel booked for guests was not much better than the one you described. He was supposed to call me when he started his way home (about a 10-hour drive). I got a call at 7 a.m. and he said he would be home by lunch. When it comes to being less than comfortable--for me--unless the reward is well worth the price, I say life is too short to settle for less than desired. 21. Contact local animal-welfare organizations like your local humane society or otherwise. They will include your dilemma in an email newsletter or something of the sort, and monetary donations from members/supporters, solutions, volunteer-help etc. will surely follow. 22. While I agree, this is probably a spam post, I will give you the benefit of the doubt as I was once a new skydiver wanting to incorporate what I knew from wakeboarding. Do a search on boat/ski threads here and decide if it is worth your money to buy a banner. However, if wakeboarders are getting into skydiving and wakeboarders are your target market, they hopefully already know about Tige (though I am a Nautique fan, myself), and your money would best be kept in the wakeboarding magazines, forums, etc. Are you certain Redbull paid for certification, or did they just pay for tandems? The only pro-wakeboarder I know who actually got certified and was successful in the "skydiving business" no longer posts here and has long since moved on to other more promising opportunities.
  23. I discovered this while rousting one out of the packing loft a few weeks back. Imagine me doing a little tap dance of death What kind of spider is it? (I have no idea.) I have not seen one with an egg-sack since summer-camp when I was nine through 12 years old. I learned the same lesson as Wendy trying to rescue (a few) with an egg sack and EXPLOSION of babies! I mean, I never saw any other bug in our cabin and I would have tapped-danced all over town if I ever saw a roach. I try to rescue everything, though thankfully I have not ever seen anything but a small wolf spider in our house. But a roach...I cannot......I do not like roaches. I know they cannot hurt me, but I......cannot even talk about them. Ooohhwhaaa! Spiders (harmless variety) are fine, though I agree I would not want to pack them in my rig. 24. Say goodbye and move on. It is my opinion a step-parent who does not like the child/children is worse than a divorce in which both parents love the children but no longer love each other. Kids learn to understand and cope more easily with the latter. The former will eventually affect how you feel about your children and vice versa, thereby ruining the relationship. At least she spoke up and gave you an opportunity to weigh what is more important instead of concealing her thoughts and instead manipulating the situation to her advantage. Personally, I like you are upset about it, but many parents in your situation would try harder to cater more toward their spouse and that is understandable, too. People need people.
