  1. Embarrassed in front of the waiter? I am not trying to be hard on you. I am hoping to gain a little perspective. I mean, I know waiters at fine restaurants can do well respectively, but to be embarrassed in front of one because of a coupon? To me that says more about you than it does anything else. 2. What restaurants do you frequent? "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  3. While I appreciate your fervor and honesty, I have to giggle at your perplexity for understanding wealth. No matter what the price, it is all about the wheel and deal. No-one ever made a fat dime paying "full-price" for everything. But as long as you are never mortified... "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  4. If I say, "no meat", he'll say, "same for me; I am a vegetarian." The only thing common about the reason is sex; everything else is "whatever she likes/dislikes." "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  5. I agree with Chuck, but understand where you are coming from. I get the "shallow" w/r/t occupation or hobby if it means financial status, but what if it means something else? I personally would be pissed if I was under the impression a guy was a veterinarian and later discovered he slaughtered cows professionally. Having said that, deception is most easily received by those who want to believe what they hear. Speaking personally again, I require a lot of backup--especially with respect to the affairs of my pink lady.
  6. First of all mate, I'm sorry to hear this. And I'm sorry I voted "Get the hell outta there!" but here is my reasons. First of all.... The jealousy... Do you honestly believe that will improove and she will become less jealous? Second.... You are "financially over extended"... And she have a problem with you not taking her out as often as you did before... Sorry mate but she sounds like a spoiled teen.... I truly believe that you should let this one go.... ASAP... Nothing to say, except I love when wrong is right. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  7. Seven years he waited? Hot! "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  8. +1 Jealously is a huge red flag on many levels. And it is really annoying on more levels. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  9. That is hilarious! "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  10. It is a beautiful film; not one that requires a theater to get full impact, but watch it in a calm environment when you are not wound up or antsy. I watched it on a day when I was a bit overwhelmed with all that had been suddenly thrown on my plate and decided to screw it all for a couple hours and sit down and watch this film I had had for more than a week. It turned out to be the perfect thing. I really love the vibrant color contrasts.
  11. Shame you went through weeks of reading first; it seems to have clouded your judgement discerning the film. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  12. I tried listening to the audio book about a month ago, couldnt get into it. When I have time again, Im going to try actually reading it.
  13. I hope so, though I have a pretty good idea of what Lisbeth did and why based on the few clues given in the film version. Do not know much about her relationship with her previous guardian, though, other than Lisbeth was upset to learn of his condition, in addition to the news she was assigned a new guardian. At this point, having not read the books, I would rather not know and hope the blanks will be revealed in the second film. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  14. I will definitely see that once available on Netflix.
  15. I thought the film was fantastic (4/5 stars), though I have not read the book to compare. Has anyone else seen it? Discuss.
  16. Yes, well while I am, I disagree with Freud on the origins of this one; I did just fine. I prefer the term "perfectionist". "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  17. Well, I can't say I disagree with that. In fact, I've been trying to get people to not just post "+1" for a while because I think it's a waste of a post, but . . . . . . how is that different than voting thumbs up? If somebody simply votes "thumbs up", you're not getting much of an opinion. +1 (That was_my_point put much more verbosely. ) "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  18. Let's debate that, then, before we vote to go ahead and willy nilly ask for the passive opinion. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  19. I saw that. I did smile and giggle a little. It is not often you see this from Reuters, but it is nice to see they have a sense of humor. What is funnier, though, is even though they spelled it for you, you still spelled the headline incorrectly. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  20. Or we could insist everyone reply "thumbs up" instead of "+1". If that is all there is to improve upon here, I think it speaks to how well this website is run.
  21. What Quade said without his filmology verbosity. Just see it.
  22. Listen, I am an only child and not one to share anything, much less a house, but FWIW... I never mix business (saving money) with pleasure (helping mom). My advice would be a way to have your cake and eat it, too: Help mom. Save money. Do not live together. Have you considered how that might be possible? "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
  23. That is what is in all our fancy soap dispensers. Edit to clarify: Not dishwasher liquid. "Nature is cruel, but we don't have to be." ~ Temple Grandin
